School has started for some and is starting again soon for others. That is why on today's episode, with returning guest Emily Leedham(community organizer & host of @RFRadioPrairie), we discuss in depth the numerous mass killings that have been occurring. We delve into why the number of mass killings have risen to scary numbers, what Fascism and Anti-fascism are, what you can tell your students, or even your own children, and what we can do to fight back against Fascism in our schools and community. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Little Red School House focuses on issues with our current education system and ways we can empower students, educators, and anyone who cares about education. Shouldn’t people be put before profits? Shouldn’t our children be educated to grow and learn instead of being treated like the means to the financial gain of those in power? If you agree with this so-called “radical” and “revolutionary” perspective, you’ve come to the right place! Join educators Gord Milstone and John Battalion as they call out systemic problems and discuss how we can break down barriers in the educational system. On this episode, we are joined by Emily Leedham who is a host on @RFRadioPrairie, a union news show for the prairie provinces in Canada. She has been an organizer for #15andFareness which is the movement to ensure minimum wage is a livable wage. On February 25, 2019, Millennium Library in downtown Winnipeg implemented new security measures – a bag check and metal detector at the front entrance. Library workers and management have cited safety concerns regarding weapons, substance use and “inappropriate behaviour.” To the general public, the security screening came as a surprise. Many library users were upset and concerned, and pressured library management to participate in a public consultation and discussion. On Thursday March 14, over 60 people participated in a community dialogue about: 1. Concerns about the metal detector and bag check screenings 2. Alternatives to security to create a welcoming environment while also keeping library workers and patrons safe Garth Mullins, host of Crackdown podcast https://crackdownpod.com/ http://umanitoba.ca/student/health-wellness/naloxone.html Owen Toews, author of Stolen City: Racial Capitalism and the Making of Winnipeg https://arpbooks.org/Books/S/Stolen-City Bar None Prison Rideshare https://barnoneblog.wordpress.com/ Are there times and situations when the police don't need to be, or shouldn't be called?
