Maggy was the family genealogist who dedicated her heart and time to developing the family tree branches far and wide. A month after distributing a book of their genealogy to her excited family, she discovered the book no longer included her. Over the past 12-and-a-half years since her surprise DNA discovery, Maggy has been on a long and winding journey grappling with her identity and navigating changes in her relationships.Maggy shares encouragement with other NPEs and advice for finding the community that fits your needs. She shares her experience of using a painful discovery to help others (and help yourself in the process). Read the two guest posts Maggy wrote about her experiences:Self Identity Reflections from Maggy Eight Years of Life as an NPEThis episode covers:The NPE (not parent expected) experienceWriting as a means of healingIdentity shifts over timeNature and nurtureBecoming a DNA search helper for othersFinding communityTurning a painful experience into support for othersHang around to the end of this conversation because Maggy and I also delve into the related but distinct DNA topic of forensic genetic genealogy! Also called investigative genetic genealogy (IGG), this is the application of DNA testing, match lists, and online family trees to solve genetic mysteries, missing persons, and crimes. Those interested in more on the IGG topic can also learn more from the interview with J.C. Kenney in season 2.Two search angel groups get a special shout-out in this episode. A Cartersville man "off his meds" drove all the way to Hartsfield-Jackson International AIrport in Atlanta after going on social media to tell his followers he was going there to 'shoot it up.' It was only a call from a family member to law enforcement that prevented this from happening - not stricter gun laws. Fortunately, that tip and swift action from airport and Atlanta law enforcement that apprehended Billy Joe Cagle, but the question remains: how'd a mentally unwell man have access to an AR-15? Who's AR-15 is it? Why is that person not being prosecuted?------Democracy Docket's Yunior Rivas joined me after filing an article that illustrates what we said was going to happen all along: Georgia's SB202 disproportionately stymied voters of color from participating in elections since its passage. ------Indivisible Georgia's Laura Judge joined me to provide insights into the planning that went into the 2nd 'No Kings Day' in Atlanta and future plans, as well. I also asked when we can expect our checks from George Soros.------Fired for comments made on someone else's social media post in the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk assassination, former Emory University professor and cancer research associate Anna Kenney joined me. In the conversation, we discussed the confusion about a meme erroneously associated with her concocted by a right wing account and all the hate-filled comments that came her way on her own account - mostly on posts having nothing to do with politics. ------Kenney isn't the only person who's had her job threatened. An Oglethorpe County teacher has been asked to resigns (she has thus far refused and is suing), and an LGBTQ+ professor targeted by Turning Points USA's "professor watch list" lost a speaking gig. He penned an op/ed that I read and shared here. I'm old enough to remember when the right mocked "cancel culture."
What does it mean to be a missionary today—and how does Natural Family Planning (NFP) reflect God's vision for love and life?Bishop Kenney joins us to explore the Church's call to mission for every baptized Catholic—not just overseas, but right here at home. Then we're joined by Renee Oakes, FCP, DHS, Associate Director of Marriage Ministry for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. A seasoned Fertility Care Practitioner and founder of Integrated Fertility Care Center, Renee shares how NFP supports women's health, strengthens marriages, and honors the dignity of life.Like what you're hearing? Our guest on this week's episode is Frank Kenney, director of industry strategy at Cleo. The Federal government shutdown is in its third week now with no end in sight. Beyond the politics of each party blaming the other for failing to fund the government, there are real repercussions that affect many aspects of American life – including our supply chains. Our guests shares how this latest disruption is adding even more uncertainty and how our supply chains should respond. Price and trust top shoppers' wish lists this holiday season, as U.S. consumers say accurate delivery promises are just as important as good deals this year, ramping up the pressure on retailers to meet shipping expectations. The trucking industry has been in a freight recession for more than three years now, which generally means there are too many trucks for not enough freight, so the rates that drivers can charge are super low. But there's more to the picture than that, and this week we saw a report that shed some light on it. It reveals that business conditions are very different depending if you're in the truckload sector, less than truckload, or parcel. Supply Chain Xchange also offers a podcast series called Supply Chain in the Fast Lane. It is co-produced with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. Former Alberta premier Jason Kenney argues that both B.C. Premier David Eby and federal Energy Minister Tim Hodgson appear to have forgotten which jurisdiction interprovincial pipelines fall under. He says the Constitution is clear that such projects are a matter of federal authority—a principle reaffirmed by the Supreme Court of Canada. Kenney adds that Mark Carney's "build, baby, build" promise will be tested by how his government handles Alberta's latest push to get a new pipeline built. State Environment Secretary James Kenney made a rare appearance at last month's meeting of the Water Quality Control Commission. Kenney advocated for the board to adopt a proposal that would expand the state's use of “produced water” — oil and gas wastewater that's loaded with questionable chemicals. Previous pushes to pass a similar proposal have died in the Legislature, as well as with the water commission. This latest proposal, however, has moved forward, and the board will consider it in November. Jerry Redfern, an oil and gas reporter with Capital and Main, recently stopped by our studio to ask Kenney about his department's sudden embrace of expanded uses for wastewater.Host: Lou DiVizioCorrespondent: Jerry RedfernGuest: James Kenney, Secretary, New Mexico Environment Department

Kerri Kenney-Silver never thought she'd get a part like Anne on ‘The Four Seasons.' After more than two decades playing the disturbingly odd Deputy Trudy Wiegel on ‘Reno 911!,' the 55-year-old actress believed Hollywood saw her as little more than outrageous comic relief. But then Tina Fey gave her the gift of a lifetime by casting her opposite Steve Carell on Netflix's latest hit series. In this episode, Kenney-Silver talks about finding the nuance in what could have been a stereotypical caricature of the jilted ex-wife. And she also discusses co-founding perhaps the most successful college sketch comedy group of all time with The State, the terrible career advice she gave her one-time co-star Ellen DeGeneres, and the bizarre longevity of ‘Reno 911!'
