One bright summer morn, Ekman asked Hank, "Do you wanna do a theology podcast with me?" Amateurs in Divinity is the fruit of that fateful question. Topics: Variable Episodes: Weekly (hopefully) Quality: Debatable
Elizabeth Ekman and Henry Widdicombe
Nothing is more practical than finding God, than falling in Love in a quite absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning, what you do with your evenings, how you spend your weekends, what you read, whom you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in Love, stay in love, and it will decide everything. Joseph Whelan, SJ

For her undergraduate thesis, Ekman wrote about the cultural phenomenon of Hallmark movies, how they've developed a cult following, and whether or not that cult following is like a religion. In this episode, we talk about some of her central ideas (with scant reference to the actual paper) and Hank asks some questions. Hank has also never seen a Hallmark movie and will likely never do so on purpose, but nevertheless finds Ekman's paper very interesting.
Welcome to Amateurs in Divinity! This is our first ever episode, in which Ekman and Hank introduce themselves and explain what our hopes are in producing a conversational theology podcast. Hopefully you enjoy the episode and stick around for more!
