Faith & Fandom Feedback Friday 7/25 Hector brings a sprint of news before rushing off to Galaxycon Day 2
Send us a textHey, Friends of Fandom. Saint and Jim initially planned a bye this week, but the nerd-o-sphere had other plans. A WHOLE NEW CINEMATIC UNIVERSE just kicked off, and man, is it Super good. And since one good launch deserves another, the boys decided to kick off / revive a new sub-show: The Half Tank. This ain't a full episode, but it's still packed with geekery. Here, your intrepid co-hosts skip the news and the catch-ups, and dive straight into the meat n' spuds. In this case: SUPERMAN. James Gunn has defied the cries of "superhero fatigue" by delivering his take on everyone's favorite Kryptonian, and the guys are gonna kick it around some. But a caveat: this is a VERY spoiler-heavy episode, even give its relative brevity. So if you somehow haven't seen the movie, GO DO IT AND COME BACK. For the rest of you, earholes it is.

Joining me are former Superman comic creators Art Baltazar and Franco, the award-winning duo behind Tiny Titans, Superman of Smallville, and Superman Family Adventures. We're also joined by Scoot McMahon, cartoonist and die-hard Superman fan, Terrificon founder and host Mitch Hallock, and our Canadian correspondent and longtime Word Balloon contributor, Wayne from Canada. From legacy nods to cinematic risks, from casting choices to Kryptonian lore — nothing is off-limits as we break it all down over two jam-packed episodes. So grab your cape, turn on the spoiler shield, and let's dive into Part 1 of our Superman movie review extravaganza!

To us, our X-fandom-historians! This week, Emily and V venture once again into a fandom that has way too many moving parts to understand as they discuss the release of X-Men: First Class and the subsequent multiversal explosion of Cherik (Charles Xavier/Erik Lehnsherr, or Professor X/Magneto) fanworks. Even though this is literally a pairing V has written, we claim no knowledge of the X-Men franchise, because again: there are so many X-men and they are all always doing things. While the internet fandom for the X-Men had been alive before XMFC, as we discussed in our Subreality episode, Cherik really brought it to dizzying new heights because those two men are so, so sad and they should kiss about it. Which version of the X-Men do you like best? NOTE: This episode was auto-edited by Zencastr, so it may not be as clean as our usual releases. We should be able to go back to human-edited episodes very soon! Thank you for your patience and for listening! Sometimes you just stumble across someone's social media and are like "I want to talk to them on the podcast". Today, that someone is Catrina Dennis, aka OhCatrina, on their socials. Catrina joins me to talk about a number of fandom topics! We kick things off by talking about Star Wars - but, this time is unlike any other. As we start with their daily post asking for an Asajj Ventress show. Catrina and I talk about this character that has seen growth across multiple shows and even appeared in books and video games. You'll learn why Catrina likes the character, and what a show would look like to them. Plus, we do talk about the Star Wars fandom - from shows to movies, and points in between. From there, we're talking about growing up in fandom. Catrina's family growing up were in several fandom spaces, and so Catrina gravitated towards some of those shows and movies. We talk about the influence the fandom space had on them growing up, and how the love of fandom led Catrina to work in the fandom spaces. Catrina fills us in on the behind the scenes work of being a social media manager for quite some time, and shares work stories too. Catrina also talks about tabletop roleplaying games. I get to find out what kind of games and dice they sling. What stories and characters they're drawn to, and playing on streamed games as well as some games at the table. Plus, we're talking about the cosmetic business they just launched a few months ago, Side Quest Cosmetics. We get into the how's, the why's, and what you can expect from them now and in the future.
