Host Meg Wolitzer presents two unconventional love stories, one classic, one contemporary, that avoid the usual tropes of “meet cute,” “opposites attract,” or “happily ever after” but are still engaging. In “Love in the Slump,” by Evelyn Waugh, clueless upper-crust newlyweds are sent on a comic odyssey. The reader is Jane Kaczmarek. And Esther Yi's “Moon” explores something we often mistake for love—obsession--as a young woman is drawn farther and farther into K-Pop fandom. The story was selected by guest editor Min Jin Lee for Best American Short Stories 2023. It's read by Hettienne Park. And we hear Lee's and Park's thoughts about the story. The Knicks pulled off an historic comeback in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, and it isn't the only sport riding the wave of renewed fan enthusiasm. Bruin Capital CEO George Pyne explains why sports viewership is booming, for the NBA as well as the NHL, MLB, and Golf. Former CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler led the agency when Congress passed the Dodd-Frank Act. Today, he argues that Congress did not intend to set the CFTC up as sole regulator of sports betting. Plus, President Trump issues a warning to Iran, and CNBC's Leslie Picker breaks down what investors should know ahead of the highly anticipated SpaceX IPO. June 6th reflects the anniversary of Tales from the Fandom. This episode also serves as the 10 year anniversary, as well as the birthday of our returning guest, Ali aka The.Ali.Way Recorded back in February, Ali returns after nearly 3 years since his first episode. Our conversation focuses all about Ali and his journey as a creator. In our first episode, Ali seemed to be right at the start of reaching that brass ring in the content creator space. We now reflect on the years since that release. From attending movie premieres, working/partnering with brands to create content and reviews for them, and more. Ali talks about his experiences with them, as well as growing as a person and brand, and evolving. From bounding and dancing, to opportunities with modeling and working and walking in Toronto Fashion week. Throughout this conversation, we talk about how Ali is bridging the gap of who he was 3 years ago to who he is now. We talk about how he focuses on making sure that each post he makes fit not just his brand, but also for his community. He talks about creating with intention, being his authentic self, and pushing himself to new opportunities and growth. Ali is one of those people I just love to see in my feed. To see his continued success and I am just so happy that we were able to get back together to celebrate him! We are once again asking the 9-1-1 writers' room to be brave. Be bold. Be intentional. In this Fandom on the Rocks bonus episode, we're looking ahead to Season 10 of 9-1-1 and laying out our very reasonable, completely measured, not-at-all-unhinged wishlist for what we want from the next season. Some of these wishes are mild-mannered expectations. Some are pipe dreams. Some are pure crack. All of them are delivered with love, frustration, and the deep spiritual exhaustion of two people who are, frankly, tired Grandpa. An incomplete list (you have to listen to the episode for the full experience, obviously):Buddie canon, obviously — but as a choice, not a crisis. No more near-death experiences as romantic shortcuts. We want Buck and Eddie to choose each other because they have already built the life, the family, the trust, and the deeply suspicious platonic marriage. The bottle episode agenda — two couches, a kitchen table, the firehouse, and people actually talking to each other. CPR recertification? Station inspection? Power outage? We don't care. Lock them in and let the character work happen.A wildfire that actually means something — Los Angeles is their home. Let the big disaster be about the community they serve, not just another round of “how can we almost kill the 118 this time?” Also, yes, burn down South Bedford and make Eddie move in with Buck. We said what we said.Group hang for joy — not a funeral, not a wedding, not a hospital, not a crisis. Give us a barbecue, a beach day, a game night, karaoke, softball, something. This show talks about found family all the time. Let us actually see the family.Emergency lightning round — influencer immersive experience gone wrong, wellness retreat horrors, science fair explosions, cruise ship dock chaos, revisiting elevator trauma with consequences, and a CPR training cold open where everyone roasts each other's compression technique. Because silly emergencies are fun. And, because we are us, we also discuss crop tops (obviously), drag brunch, Christopher needing an actual storyline, May and Ravi's developing romance, Maddie and Chimney in their leadership roles, Eddie Diaz as a queer-coded man written so loudly we are all begging the show to notice, and why Season 10 desperately needs one thing above all else: Intentionality.Show us the storyboard. Show us the wall. Know where these characters are going when you start writing. Let big things mean something. Let the emotional arcs actually arc. We are paying adult money to watch this show. Give us the goods. As always, we complain because we love this show. We want 9-1-1 to be the best version of itself, and we want Season 10 to remember that the show is strongest when the emergencies are wild, the characters are grounded, and the found family actually feels like a family.Drop your Season 10 wishlist in the comments. What are you manifesting? What are you begging for? And how many crop tops is too many crop tops? Trick question. The limit does not exist.xoxo,Fandom on the Rocks

Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber cover a packed hour of New York sports debates, starting with the pride and embarrassment that come with wearing conference championship gear after a team falls short. From Knicks Finals shirts to Mets pennant sweatshirts, Yankees World Series hats, and Giants NFC Championship gear, the conversation becomes a wider look at what fans celebrate, what they mock, and why context matters. The hour also gets into a creative Aaron Judge heckle, NBA flopping and Adam Silver's response, the Jets handling of Kenyon Sadiq injury update, and the Giants fallout around Jaxson Dart and Abdul Carter. Along the way, Evan and Tiki connect fan psychology, team drama, locker room perception, and even the butt fumble into one broad question about how sports moments live on after the game ends.
The world's biggest superheroes are built on more than spectacle. They're built on identity, emotion and fandom. In this episode of Brand Slam, hosts Steve Rosa and Joe Kayata go inside Hasbro's Marvel universe with Mike Pullano, Senior Director of Global Brand Strategy & Marketing leading the Disney Marvel portfolio. From Spider-Man and Black Panther to X-Men, Deadpool and The Avengers, Mike shares how one of the world's most iconic entertainment brands continues to scale globally while staying emotionally connected to fans across generations. The conversation explores what it takes to balance storytelling with business performance, market simultaneously to kids, parents and collectors, and evolve legendary franchises without losing what made audiences fall in love with them in the first place. Mike also reflects on his 15-year journey at Hasbro, helping shape powerhouse brands including Monopoly, Nerf, Peppa Pig, Furby, Baby Alive and Super Soaker. Along the way, he breaks down the strategy behind licensing partnerships, global audience engagement and building fandom that lasts far beyond the screen. When three-year-old Brittany Eichelberger slipped out of her family's trailer in Elkins, West Virginia on Christmas Eve 1990, no one knew she was gone. She was found hours later, clinically dead in the snow — frozen stiff, her heart stopped, her body nearly 25 degrees below normal temperature. A neighbor, a determined paramedic, and a rural hospital team that refused to quit launched one of the most extraordinary resuscitation efforts ever documented in emergency medicine. The cold that stopped her heart may also be the reason her brain survived. This is a story about what happens when everyone around you decides it isn't over yet. Email: bidemiologunde@gmail.comIn this episode, host Bidemi Ologunde examines how short-form clips from podcasts, songs, and movies are reshaping persuasion online. Why do thirty-second clips often feel more convincing than full arguments? How can entertainment, fandom, and creator culture become delivery systems for influence operations? What happens when AI-generated voices, synthetic video, and algorithmic feeds make propaganda faster, cheaper, and more emotionally targeted? Bidemi explores the healthy uses of clip culture, the risks of context collapse, and the emerging future of media literacy in an age where attention itself has become strategic terrain.

Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Back in the Studio!, CCS Recap, and Convention Stories 02:35 Question of the Week: Posters and Box Art That Started a Fandom 05:08 Lanterns Trailer Reaction and Green Lantern Theories 16:25 Westworld Movie Announcement and Franchise Potential 25:00 VisionQuest and Crystal Lake Release Date Discussion 31:42 Deathstroke and Bane Movie Talk 37:26 Punisher: One Last Kill Review 44:24 Dungeon Crawler Carl, Network Updates, and Weekly Recommendations Key Takeaways The new Lanterns trailer sparked a big discussion about whether the show can balance grounded detective drama with the cosmic scale fans expect from Green Lantern. Frank and Squeaks dig into Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and the possibility that the series could explore the morality and purpose of the Green Lantern Corps. The newly announced Westworld movie has Frank excited because the franchise can work as a smaller survival story set against a much bigger sci-fi collapse. VisionQuest and Crystal Lake landing back-to-back in October could make for a huge week of Marvel and horror viewing. The Deathstroke and Bane movie raises questions about tone, especially with Greg Mottola's comedy background, but the hosts see potential if it leans into a Suicide Squad style dynamic. Punisher: One Last Kill earns praise for its action, Jon Bernthal's performance, and emotional shift for Frank Castle, though Frank wanted more story before the ending. Quotes "Some of these games are just developed by one person, and what they do with that lack of help is phenomenal." "That's the Lanterns trailer they should have released first." "I think that's the button we're going to see: what is the morality of Green Lanterns?" "We got bad taste with how the HBO series ended, but I think we all fell in love with how it started." "The action was phenomenal. The killings were great. It got straight to the point." Summer movie season 2026 is here and it's like Hollywood looked at the release calendar and chose violence. This week on Pop Culture Weekly, Rotten Tomatoes editor and Scene on the Screen host Jacqueline Coley joins me to break down the absolutely stacked, mildly chaotic, and potentially billion-dollar-filled summer movie lineup. We're talking Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, Spielberg's new alien movie Disclosure Day, Toy Story 5, horror movies born from internet lore, the return of theatrical re-releases, and why movie theaters might actually be having a major comeback moment. We also get into:• Which movies could completely dominate the summer• The surprise titles nobody should underestimate• Why fandoms are basically running Hollywood now• The future of blockbuster movies• Why some sequels crash and burn while others explode• And why I will absolutely continue defending terrible movies if they entertain me enoughPlus, Jacqueline explains why “the summer box office season is nicheifying,” which honestly sounds fake but is somehow completely accurate. If you love movies, movie theaters, pop culture chaos, or just hearing two film nerds spiral about the future of Hollywood for an hour, this episode is for you.If you dig the show, subscribe, rate, and share - and tell your friend who's always stealing your streaming passwords.

On today's episode, host Kate Lindsay is joined by journalist and creator Princess Weekes to discuss the ethics of consuming leaks. Ten years ago, a fan with access to leaked material from their favorite artist or creator was considered elite. But now, fandoms like Avatar: The Last Airbender worry that watching the now-leaked most recent film is a slap in the face to the artists. But if the choice is between exploiting an artist's work, and being exploited by the streaming services and corporations that are making ethical consumption even more expensive, then does anyone win? This podcast is produced by Vic Whitley-Berry, Daisy Rosario, and Kate Lindsay. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
