In this discussion of Season 4's third episode, we somberly discuss the tragic death of—um, who? Beata? Who the heck is Beata? Sadly, the young refugee was struck down just as we were getting to know…well, pretty much anything about her. But that's okay, we have plenty of other things to discuss over our bottle of Hye-Land 12-Year Single Malt Armenian Whiskey. Like how Regis is clearly just a regular, ordinary human that just happens to have remarkable pain tolerance. And how wearing a bra on the outside of your dress may actually be quite practical. And how you really should aspire to do more with your magical abilities than to be turned into portal goo. But mostly how disappointed we were that Geralt of Rawvia and Yennefer of Bangerberg didn't actually use that unicorn they had on stage. But hey, we DID get the debut of Leo Bonhart, who mercilessly took the life of—wait, what was that Witcher's name again?

Recorded: November 24, 2025 Former NFL linebacker Will Compton and former left tackle Taylor Lewan sit down in the back of the bus for a full Thanksgiving preview packed with football talk, drama, and plenty to be thankful for. The Boys break down what’s been going on inside the bus — including Taylor’s battle with gout, his potential all-veggie Thanksgiving diet, and how he’s fighting through it one step at a time. Bussin’ Head of Social Media Jack McPherson exposes a growing darkness inside the shop: an office troll. Producer Jeremy Klump is forced to defend his honor in a trial by combat, facing accusations of the ultimate thanksgiving-season crime — being a fraudulent football fan. Will and Taylor also question Clay Matthews’ Locker Room picks, leading into a fired-up Tier Talk ranking the best holiday drinks and brews. Then producer JP Hovey jumps into the mix, calling out Will Compton for allegedly lying about watching movies and shows, sparking yet another showdown on the bus. The Boys bring it all home by sharing what they’re most thankful for and what they’d do anything for this Thanksgiving season. Big Hugs & Tiny Kisses! In today's episode, we jumped right back on the Emerald City Express with third-time guest, Leena Norms (she/her). Leena joined us for our episode Wonka x Antisemitism and Censorship in January 2024 and then again in December 2024 for our episode Wicked x Paratexts. Now she's back to help us make sense of Wicked: For Good. Marcelle leads the episode beginning with a quick conversation about femslash, a subgenre of fan fiction which, broadly-speaking, focuses on romantic/sexual relationships between female fictional characters. Before jumping deeper into the history of femslash, Hannah, Marcelle and Leena discuss the essential question: how gay is this sequel? From there, Marcelle takes us into a conversation about subtext and representation. As always, the episode ends with a perfectly sound thesis and discussion of the movie, the media storm around the film, how Glinda is positioned as a hero, queerbaiting and revolutionary politics.Follow Leena on Youtube here! What happens when fans learn their beloved Star Trek is returning, but not the way they expect? This week on The Trek Files, we take a mid-season dive into the pre-internet letter-writing era of fandom with a look at Interstat #109, a Star Trek "LOC-zine" published just after the announcement of The Next Generation in late 1986. With Mission Log host and producer John Champion joining Larry, we revisit that first wave of passionate, skeptical, and sometimes prophetic reactions from fans adjusting to the idea of Star Trek without Kirk, Spock, or the original cast. From fears about recasting to early excitement about a new crew, these letters reveal a fandom both resistant to change and deeply hopeful for Trek's future. And while the tone may be more thoughtful than today's drive-by social media culture, the underlying emotions haven't changed. Together, John and Larry reflect on how fandom evolves, why backlash often masks deep investment, and how publications like Interstat helped shape the Trek we know today—slowly, one stamp at a time.

Welcome to the ultimate SPN music nerd-out! This Denim-wrapped Nightmares and In Defense of Fandom crossover dives deep into the sonic world of Supernatural with the dynamic duo behind the show's iconic score: composers Christopher Lennertz and Jay Gruska.Chris and Jay split scoring duties for all 15 years (yes, really—they alternated episodes like the world's most functional musical marriage), and they spill all the secrets: from creating the beloved "Americana" family theme to writing horror music that could pivot to comedy faster than Dean Winchester can inhale a slice of pie.Discover how these fraternity brothers-turned-collaborators blended classic rock vibes with creepy cellos, why Jay nearly got canceled by fans for using the family theme with the wrong character (oops), and what it was like scoring everything from black-and-white monster homages to full-blown musicals. Plus: behind-the-scenes stories about schmuckbait, temp scores, and why sometimes you just have to let the tuba impulses go.Whether you're here for the technical talk or just want to know how they made 327 episodes feel like coming home, this episode is a love letter to the unsung heroes who made sure we felt every Winchester moment—even when we didn't consciously notice the music at all.Special thanks to Rob Benedict and Louden Swain for allowing us to feature a couple of their tracks, which, thematically, are also songs from Supernatural episodes. Photo by Tim Wildsmith on Unsplash Published 24 November 2025 e534 with Michael, Andy and Michael – AI and ML training data, camouflage, ppen source Zork, Deadpool VR, NPH movies and a whole lot more. Michael, Andy and Michael start things off with with an intriguing AI analysis of the heist from the Louvre. The Ars Technica article takes the examples of mathematical machine learning and human psychology to show how both were defeated what was considered to be ordinary versus suspicious. This is a terrific reminder on the importance of the training data sets used for AI models and how the “performance of normality became the perfect camouflage”. Michael R highlights the On Intelligence book, and Michael M brings up visual pattern recognition of the human form which ghillie suits help disguise. Switching to a hackster.io article, the die is cast – or rather the die is 3d printed. Andy shares his thoughts on this bluetooth enabled die, and mentions how dice have featured prominently in the the podcast over the years. E132 from 2016 appears to be the earliest reference to dice in the show notes. Next up is Microsoft's announcement to open source the Zork family of text based adventure games from Infocom. Zork is another favorite of the podcast, and e78 from 2014 is the earliest reference! Then the team discusses the Deadpool VR game. The Kotaku article mentions that Neil Patrick Harris does the Deadpool voice acting in the game. This leads the cohosts down the rabbit hole of NPH acting with a number of movies and TV shows. Oh, and the reason for the “I don't want a McRib” part of the show title was because the Kotaku article kept serving up McDonalds McRib ads to Michael M, while Michael R with his PiHole does not get such ads. What is your favorite NPH movie or tv show? Have your bots

In this episode, we welcome Melanie Kohnen, an Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Media Studies for Lewis & Clark College, and Billy Austin Tringali, an Instruction Librarian at the Indiana University Indianapolis and the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Anime and Manga Studies (JAMS), to discuss the culture and function of pop-culture conventions (“cons”). Melanie shares her research on the encroaching influence of media companies on spaces such as San Diego Comic-Con, especially as they literally extend their promotions to outside of the convention center. Meanwhile, Billy speaks about his work running the annual JAMS@AX Symposium at Anime Expo and his own research regarding animanga content. This conversation examines the intersection of academia and non-academic spaces, like fan events, and how media businesses build relationships with their audiences. Melanie and Billy explore how both academics and con-goers can experience conventions as fans and build a sense of community at these pop-culture events. They offer various modes of experiencing conventions and ways of accessing fans as part of larger promotional content. From Japan to the US, Billy and Melanie show us that conventions are places of scholarly work, fun, and play! When Whiskey with Witcher Special Correspondent Rebekah Rodriguez-Lynn heard that Andrzej Sapkowski and Joey Batey—whose debut novel, “It's Not a Cult,” was just released in the UK—were both embarking on book tours at the same time, she couldn't resist a trip overseas. And we couldn't resist having her on the podcast to tell us all about it! What was it like meeting and hanging out with Batey's fans? How does he balance acting, writing and performing with his band? And is Sapkowski really as crotchety as people seem to think? Plus, Rebekah reveals what the Witcher creator thinks about the book's English translation, why he doesn't have favorite characters and whether “Crossroads of Ravens” is likely to be the last Witcher novel. The answers just might surprise you!

ACOFAE Podcast Presents: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. ACOFAE doesn't do things casually. When Laura Marie and Jessica Marie like something, they go all in and commit fully to the Fandom. So when Jessica Marie ended up loving Wicked pt1- it was only a matter of time before the broadway show was seen, part 2 songs memorized, and The Book read. The book, which details the life of Elphaba from birth to "death", is a different animal than the musical, and that is made known right away. Mostly politics, religious warring, and two or maybe three beings manipulating key characters, Wicked is source material at its finest. Details abound about the region, Shiz, the child monarch, and how and why the Wizard came to be in Oz. Galinda, Boq, Madam Moorible, Dorothy, the Lion, and more, are all here and they each have their own stories to tell in this hefty 400+ page book that sees Elphaba go from child to sister, student, friend, activist, Big T, Witch, and beyond. "Did she ever come back? Not yet." TW / CW: none to our awareness. This bonus episode is a chance to step back and make sense of everything that just unfolded in Cracks in the Fandom. If you listened to the series, you saw how an Instagram unfollow spiraled into harassment, infighting, and full-on chaos inside the SVU fandom. This series was petty, confusing , and pretty revealing about how people form attachments online. I wanted to understand why this happens. Why someone can feel personally betrayed by an actor they don't even know. So I reached out to Bradley J. Bond, a professor at the University of San Diego who studies parasocial relationships for a living. He breaks down what these one-sided bonds actually are, why they feel real, and how they can slide from harmless to unhealthy faster than we think.
