The Hokies are coming off of a bye week and host Notre Dame for the first time since 2018 in Lane Stadium. A game in which the Hokies lost by multiple touchdowns. But Virginia Tech and the 15th ranked Irish are both trying to find their offensively, struggling to find consistency at the quarterback position, and have been carried by strong defensive performances thus far this season. So, something has to give this weekend in a primetime matchup under the lights at Lane Stadium, and, don't look twice, but the Hokies are actually favored by half a point as of Wednesday night.     Justin and Tim also go around the ACC to recap all of the week 5 action, and talk a little Hokies basketball as head coach Mike Young pulled in the third highest recruit in program history with Rodney Rice from Dematha High School. They also bring you their week 6 picks in the betting lines segment, featuring the top games in the ACC and a wildcard match-up to keep an eye on. Each year in late summer I usually make corn chowder. Some years I make it thick, some years I make it smooth, this year I made it using some chile peppers and bacon. This soup is best with fresh corn and I always use NON-GMO sweet corn. You can use canned corn but it will be slightly less flavorful. By all means, if you‘re reading this in January, just used canned corn…not a problem. In this version, I used some Jalapeno and poblano peppers, which really added a nice “grassy” flavor plus a tiny bit of heat. I like to garnish with Cotija cheese and cilantro.

#WisdomWednesdays: Spreading Hope and Overcoming COVID-19 Through Love and Compassion COVID-19 has impacted the lives of everyone across the globe, making the world seem like a terrifying place. After more than a year, there are still surges in cases despite all our progress. While it may be difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel, we should stay positive. There is a silver lining to the pandemic. We will all get through this if we keep spreading hope  and extending a helping hand. In this episode, Rosie shares her experience of contracting COVID-19. She talks about how she and Torry pulled through, with the help of their friends and loving dogs. Getting the virus made her realize just how crucial it is to have a community that can support you in these trying times. Rosie and Tessa also emphasize the importance of prioritizing collective welfare over individual concerns. By pushing for the greater good, we can all move forward from this pandemic. Tune in and be inspired to start spreading hope and acting from a place of love and compassion. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Hear about Rosie's firsthand experience with COVID-19 and how she was able to overcome the virus. Know about the importance of emotional support, compassion, and responsibility. Find out how you can continue spreading hope in these difficult times. Episode Highlights Contracting the Virus Rosie recently contracted the virus and is still recovering. She was yet to be vaccinated. However, she is not anti-vax. Her doctor advised her to wait for 90 days for her body to recover before getting inoculated against the virus. She regrets postponing her vaccination because she was afraid of missing a day of work. When she got the virus, she ended up having to rest for two and a half weeks. Interacting with Gentleness After contracting the virus, Rosie had more compassion for people who had gone through the same experience. Many emailed her, asking about her vaccination status. While she recognizes that they come from a good place, she reminds everyone that it's also important to be gentle. She hopes that we can tune into compassion and empathy instead of attacking and blaming each other. On Vaccination There's a difference between not being vaccinated yet and being anti-vax. Tessa expresses how the United States is fortunate for having so many vaccines to choose from and the ability to make a conscious decision. How Rosie Survived the Virus Rosie is thankful for our medical professionals who helped her when she got sick. Many of them contracted the virus during the start of the outbreak. Since she lives in a big city, she was able to get their meals and groceries delivered. She also got comfort from talking to her friends who also contracted and survived the virus. Post-COVID-19 Rosie fell into a slump after getting the virus. She thinks that lack of movement and human touch contributed to this depression. Once she started feeling better, Rosie did minimal restorative yoga and cleaned their house. However, she had to stop halfway through because she began to feel ill again. She then realized that she barely ate anything in the past days since she lost her sense of taste. How Their Dogs Helped Rosie and Torry have three pit bulls: Chowder, Rosie, and Brinks. They slept in separate rooms and split up the dogs; Rosie got the two boys. During that time, Chowder was very attentive to her. He seems to sense that something was wrong. The dogs helped Rosie stay sane during the whole ordeal. Spreading Hope and Compassion We are all figuring things out together. Remember how important it is to take care of each other. Be compassionate, empathetic, and responsible. One of the ways you can do this is by wearing a mask. Emphasize taking care of the whole, as opposed to focusing on the individual. Keep reaching out to others and letting people know you're here for the greater good. Coming From a Place of Love We are currently balancing between a scary, difficult time and a hopeful, transitional one. So, it's important to remember that we are all humans going through human experiences. Rather than coming from a place of judgment, try to be more curious. Doing so allows for learning and deeper connections. Mindfulness, yoga, and meditation can help you practice acting from a place of love and compassion. Rosie's Advice Trust that the situation will improve. Rosie and Torry are feeling better by the day. Turn off your phone and be in the moment. Talk to people, and focus on the positive. Find time to be grateful every day. 5 Powerful Quotes [06:24] “I ended up losing way more than I would have had I just gone to get vaccinated.” [23:13] “It's such a terrible virus. But for the people that made it through, we're here; we all need to be here for each other.” [24:36] “We have to remember that we're all human, and we're all having this human experience.” [26:30] “You need to focus. You need to tune in and let yourself be in the present moment.” [27:27] “I know that things will get better. TVC 549.1: Greg Ehrbar welcomes Emmy nominated and Annie Award-winning writer, director, storyboard artist, and voice actor C.H. Greenblatt (Spongebob Squarepants, Chowder, Harvey Beaks). C.H. is the creator and executive producer of Jellystone!, the new animated series that not only marks the first series starring Yogi Bear in thirty years, but features just about every cartoon character in the Hanna-Barbera, all somehow coexisting in the same universe. While Jellystone! is not a nostalgia show, Greenblatt sees the series as a love letter to the various Hanna-Barbara series that we all grew up watching. Among other topics, he talks to Greg about balancing his desire to pay homage to his favorite H-B characters while also staying true to the show he wanted to make. The first ten episodes of Jellystone! are available for streaming on demand on HBO Max; another ten will be released later in the year. Want to advertise/sponsor our show? Paulie Walnuts presents: A Goomba’s Guide to Loving Your Mom.  Fresh from the oven like some scones Carmela Soprano baked for the “Fabio of The Sopranos,” as guest Desi Jedeikin from the Hollywood Crime Scene podcast calls Furio, there’s a piping hot new episode of Pod Yourself a Gun. It’s about dang time Matt and Vince got Desi on the show, as she introduced former guest and Hollywood Crime Scene co-host Rachel Fischer to The Sopranos. Her and the boys are talking about season four, episode twelve, "Eloise." This episode is more fun than taking a bunch of old ladies to see The Producers on Broadway, and if you say otherwise I will personally come to your place and smother you to death with a pillow like Paulie does to that old crone Minnie. Or, at least I’ll settle the dispute they had on the podcast about whether or not it’s possible to smother someone to death with a pillow. Don’t make me find out. You look like you have weak lungs. To complement the pillow talk, there is also a bangin’ Bada-B story song parody about standing too close to a helicopter while urinating, and a discussion of Paulie’s performative mom love. He loves Nucci, but also he needs everyone in his immediate vicinity to know how much he loves Nucci. It’s sweet but gross — kind of like your mom.
