Join Damon, Dante, Collin, and Tatum driving to Watkins Glen International in late May for their second ChumpCar race. Fresh off of a rainy Porsche Club weekend at The Glen two weeks prior. The question was proposed, what would you buy for 65k? The conversation transitions into talking about how modern day cars are so good at handling in compared to old cars. We get into the absurdity of what cars we buy or want to buy, such as Dante wants a 997 cup car to go with his 996 cup car. Later in the episode we talk strategy for the race.

Post First ChumpCar race. On our way home from Mid Ohio. We had an early end to our day. Everyone tells their experience of first time being in a race. We compare and contrast HPDE driving to race driving. Dante dispels the grainy feedback feeling through high speed sweepers as the car pushing. We talk about what it’s like driving a car with no ABS and a sensitive pedal. Nick tells his experience of the race as a non driver. At the end we go over what we can do to be better prepared for races in the future.

We plan our driver change and fueling strategy for our first race. We review our first time driving the race car when we were testing it at VIR. Collin talks about his experience first instructing and the troubles with communicating with someone with broken english while on the race track. Nick tells about some really interesting Porsche history, including a Porsche F1 engine in a 904. Teddy Fireball Johnson gets a shoutout. We discuss all the work we’ve done on the race car since purchasing it three months ago. It was supposed to be a perfect car, but we found metal shaving in the oil filter. We talk about how confusing digital radios are to get setup with all the programming and special cables and software involved.
