Philippa and Quentin cover the week (so far) in Ambridge — Sunday 23rd to Tuesday 25th August — and it has been a week of romantic entanglements, awkward confessions and a rather impressive car sale.Lily confesses the Harrison kiss to Rex, who is about as subtle about it as Lily was, and Fallon is already picking up vibes. Conrad arrives and is immediately flirting with both Fallon and Lily, makes his interest in Fallon very plain, and is either a smooth used car salesman or a decent bloke — the jury is still out. Fallon keeps the shutters firmly down. Harrison and Lily have not contacted each other since the kiss, which nobody believes will last.George, meanwhile, turns out to be a natural car salesman. Martyn Gibson plays it beautifully, listens to what George has to say about the plug-in hybrid with comfort memory seats, and secures the sale. Both hosts are very impressed. Quentin's prediction is already on the table.Lynda handles the appalling Diane magnificently, gives her a dressing gown and calmly shows her the door, then has a moment of uncomfortable self-reflection about whether she used to be the same. Robert and Lynda's finances are taking a real hit. Rex's manly odour after moving gravel all day gets a mention. Brian puts the wrong address on a delivery and Alice sorts it out — and gets a romantic dinner, whereas Adam would have been told off. Alice and Rex's smoochy scenes are becoming a lot. And Oliver Turner's second week writing for the show gets a very warm reception.A big announcement too: All About The Archers is now available as video on Apple Podcasts — thousands of you watched last week without being asked and thank you very much indeed.Plus Star of the Week, Twit of the Week, predictions including George as the next Top Gear presenter, and Quentin is off to Edinburgh to see Ben Norris in his Fringe Award-winning show The Distance.Topics covered: Lily Pargetter | Harrison Burns | Fallon Rogers | Conrad | Rex Fairbrother | George Grundy | Martyn Gibson | Lynda Snell | Robert Snell | Brian Aldridge | Alice Carter | The Archers August 2026 Hosted on Acast. What if the real reason your customers buy has almost nothing to do with the reason they give you? What if the survey you sent out, the testimonial you loved, and the answer you got on your sales call were all honest, but still missed the real reason the person said yes? That sounds crazy, but some fascinating psychology experiments suggest exactly that. People often make a decision first and then build a story to explain it. They think they know why they chose something, but their brain may have been influenced by something they never noticed. For anyone selling a coaching program, course, membership, or service, this changes everything. Because if you build your entire sales page around the reasons customers think they bought, you could be fixing the wrong problem. The real forces driving the sale may be hiding underneath the surface. And some of these forces are surprisingly simple.Useful Episode ResourcesFREE list of the top 10 books to improve your email marketingIf you want to write better emails, come up with better content, and move your readers to click and buy, here's how. Power Your Parenting: Moms With Teens

What if your teen's extreme behavior isn't proof that you're failing as a mom—but a sign that you simply need different tools? When your teen is disrespectful, defiant, anxious, aggressive, using substances, or struggling emotionally, it's easy to wonder, Where did I go wrong? In this episode of Power Your Parenting: Moms of Teens, I talk with Dr. Scott Sells, family therapist and author of the newly revised Parenting Your Out-of-Control Teenager: Eight Strategies to Reestablish Authority and Reclaim Love. Dr. Sells reminds parents that extreme behavior often isn't a “bad parenting” problem—it's a tools problem. Drawing from decades of working with families as well as his own experience parenting twin teenage sons, he explains why parents need a balance of love and limits—or connection with correction. Dr. Sells explains why gentle parenting alone may fall short with teens who have extreme behavioral or emotional challenges. Teens need connection, but they also need clear guardrails. As he puts it, “rules without relationships lead to rebellion.” You'll hear practical strategies for rebuilding connection, including catching your teen doing something right, creating intentional special outings, and staying committed to the relationship even when your teen initially pushes you away. We also explore the complicated question many moms face: Is this anxiety, trauma, neurodivergence, a mental health issue—or simply oppositional behavior? Dr. Sells discusses looking at both skill and will, reducing over-accommodation of anxiety, and examining how smartphones, instant gratification, nutrition, and family patterns may contribute to emotional struggles. Most importantly, this conversation offers hope. You don't have to parent perfectly, and trying harder with the same strategies isn't always the answer. Sometimes you need a new tool—one that helps you lower the drama, restore your authority, and rebuild the loving connection underneath all the conflict. Scott Sells, PhD, is the founder and developer of the evidence-based treatment models Parenting with Love and Limits and Family Systems Trauma, used by therapists across the United States and Europe. He earned his PhD and MSW from Florida State University and has served as a professor of social work at Savannah State University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has delivered keynotes for major mental health organizations and authored more than 20 professional publications. Dr. Sells is the author of three books, including the newly revised Parenting Your Out-of-Control Teenager: Eight Strategies to Reestablish Authority and Reclaim Love, Treating the Traumatized Child, and Treating the Tough Adolescent. 3 Key Takeaways 1. It may not be a parenting problem—it may be a tools problem. When the strategies you've always used stop working, trying harder isn't necessarily the solution. You may need a different, more specialized tool. 2. Teens need both love AND limits. Connection without boundaries can leave teens without needed guardrails, while rules without a relationship can fuel rebellion. The goal is balanced parenting: connection with correction. 3. Look beneath the behavior. Disrespect, defiance, anxiety, or withdrawal may be the surface problem. Getting curious about what is driving the behavior—and then choosing the right tool—can help parents move from constant firefighting toward real change. The Cards Money Can't Buy + What Does “Rare” Really Mean? + A Jordan /40 Sells for Nearly $1 Million

Sports Cards Live

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 12, 2026 42:28

What does "rare" actually mean in the sports card hobby anymore? A Michael Jordan Molten Metal Fusion Titanium numbered to just 40 copies reportedly sells privately for nearly $1 million, sparking a fascinating debate. To an ultra-modern collector accustomed to cards numbered to 10, 5 or even one-of-ones, is /40 really rare? To a 90s collector, /40 can be extraordinarily rare. And to a vintage collector, rarity may have an entirely different meaning. Chris McGill of Card Ladder brings the question to the Sports Cards Live panel and we go deep. We discuss manufactured scarcity versus organic rarity, print runs versus actual surviving populations, how often a card actually becomes available, and the enormous difference between a card being technically rare and being truly scarce. We also explore the importance of substitutes. There may only be 40 copies of one particular Michael Jordan card, but how many other desirable Jordan cards exist from that same season? Compare that to vintage icons where collectors may have far fewer alternatives. Then we add condition and eye appeal to the equation. Can an otherwise common card become effectively rare simply because exceptionally attractive copies almost never surface? Joe Poirot explains why owning a one-of-one has changed his entire perspective on rarity, while Jeff Hart, David Chase, Joshua Adams and Jeremy Lee bring their own collecting philosophies into the debate. Then we make it personal: What is the one card you simply wouldn't sell? From a Roberto Clemente rookie purchased as a teenager to an in-person Luka Doncic autograph tied to a special memory, a playing-era autographed Bill Russell rookie and Jeremy's Superman, Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio cards, everyone has a different reason why certain pieces become irreplaceable. Plus, we discuss the psychology of "not-for-sale" prices, Michael Jordan cards reaching astonishing new levels, whether collectors should actually WANT card prices to fall, and why sometimes loving the card matters more than loving the money. Featuring Jeremy Lee, Joe Poirot, David Chase, Jeff Hart, Chris McGill and Joshua Adams.

What actually sells books right now? Is it craft? Writing to market? Better ads? Faster production? AI tools? A stronger backlist? Or is the real answer messier than any one author guru wants to admit? In this episode of Write, Wrong, Repeat, Holly Lyne, Jeff Elkins, JP Rindfleisch IX, Crys Cain, and Tom Holbrook get honest about the current state of the author business. The conversation starts with real author updates: rough NetGalley reviews, TikTok experiments, BookVault print quality, Facebook ads, AI translations, ADHD and productivity, newsletter flows, rights reversions, and the emotional whiplash of trying to build a sustainable writing career while life keeps happening. Then the group digs into the big question authors are hearing everywhere right now: is craft king again? The answer is not simple. Craft matters. Writing to market matters. Reader expectation matters. Emotional connection matters. And "good writing" does not always mean literary prose—it means giving your readers the experience they came for and doing it well. If you are an indie author trying to decide where to put your energy next, this episode will help you think more clearly about craft, market fit, ads, AI, reader expectations, and the difference between chasing trends and building stories people actually want to keep reading. Listen for a practical, funny, brutally honest conversation about what is working, what is exhausting, and what authors may need to rethink next.
