A place to come and listen to the sermons from the Grants Church of Christ in Grants, New Mexico.
Every Christian can and should make disciples. It's not a suggestion. It is a command. But how do we do this?Preached on October 11, 2020.
Sermon peached by Walter Smith on October 3rd, 2020.
The disciples were there with Jesus. I can image a big crown standing around watching and waiting for Jesus’ next great miracle, and then He says that. And suddenly, the attitude changes. The mood around this crown just drops. Suddenly, it’s not so fun anymore. I have felt that. Its not easy. The apostles must have felt that and that couldn’t be easy. But no matter what happened they were certain that Jesus was the Messiah. So please, if you are certain that Jesus is the Messiah,Even though we know and understand that life is going to be difficult,Even though some of the things in the Bible are hard to accept and understand,Even though the people, the culture, and times have changed, Even though other Christians might ridicule you,Even though Ecumenicism and Coexist seem so good,Even though Christ was offensive and harsh,Ask yourselves this one question, “to whom shall we go?”
Have you ever heard the saying "Stay in your lane"? Well that doesn't apply to ministers. In this sermon we will be going over several Bible verses that prove we need to speak up against false teachers. We are looking into how people in the Bible reacted to false teachers and why we should do the same.Sermon by Robert BallewPreached on 9/26/2020
Most Christians think of providence as blessings from God. The book of Ruth shows us another side of providence. God is always providential. Through famine and the death of loved ones, God displayed His providence by providing food, love, a king, and a Savior.God is always providential.
Philippians 3:1-10 Was your life worth it? Was the path you took to get here worth it? Were the decisions you made, the career you chose, the home you built, the friendships you’ve established, the love you’ve shared, was it all worth it?
Sometimes we need to look at our lives and ask ourselves "is it worth it?"Philippians 3:1-10
This is Josh's last word to the Grants Church of Christ. Listen in as he shares from John 15 where Jesus invites his disciples to abide in him.
What does it mean that God wants to make his home in us? This is what we explore in this message from John 14.
As Jesus prepares to leave his disciples in the gospel of John, we find a discourse or a teaching that we don't find in any of the other stories about Jesus' life from Matthew, Mark and Luke. Jesus spends a lot of time preparing his disciples for his imminent departure. One of the most important pieces of information he shares is the coming of the Spirit, the Paraclete. In this message we explore this strange name that Jesus gives the Holy Spirit.
When Jesus left earth his disciples weren't ready for him to go. John, the gospel writer, however records lots of details in his gospel about the night before Jesus was crucified. Our Savior tries to prepare his disciples for his inevitable departure. The things he says are worth reflecting on at a time like this when a minister is leaving a church.
What if everything you used to define yourself was suddenly gone? What if suddenly you lost your profession, your family, your wealth, and your hobbies all in one fell swoop? What would be left? I don't know if Paul is actually trying to answer these questions in the opening verses of Ephesians, but he is trying to remind the Ephesian Christians of who they are. Let's join this ancient church and see what we can glean from this letter written nearly 2,000 years ago.
Many of us may find the chapters 24-31 in Exodus as boring. They are an instruction manual for how to build the tabernacle. This, in many ways, may seem irrelevant to Jesus followers today. However, there are some really important truths that come from the fact that God chose to dwell among his people in a tent. Listen in as we explore this final lesson in the book of Exodus.
We have all been betrayed in some form or fashion. If you haven't, don't worry, give it time! But we don't often think about how God feels when humans betray him. Neither do we think very much about how he responds. Exodus 32-34 shows us a deep and moving story about what kind of God we serve and how he responds when he is betrayed.
Where is God in the wilderness? Sometimes it's hard to see God when we are facing adverse and difficult circumstances. Exodus 24 has a really powerful answer to this question.
Along with all the challenges that comes with bringing around a million people into the wilderness, the Israelites are struggling with issues of justice. So much so that Moses is playing judge from morning until evening with the people. The answer to this problem comes from outside of God's chosen people and teaches a lesson that we can glean from all these thousands of years later! Be blessed!
Why should someone follow God? While there are many really good answers to this question, Exodus 18 gives a really important answer to this really important question. Have you considered why somebody should follow God? Have you considered why you follow God? Is it a reason that if shared, may convince somebody to consider redirecting their lives?
As soon as the Israelites leave Egypt, they experience some testing. They don’t pass with flying colors, but don’t be too hard on them. If I am real honest with myself, I see the same shortcomings in myself and perhaps you can see the same in yourself. And it’s in those similarities that we can find our lessons from this story.
How is Israel going to respond to their Savior God? Everything is not perfect. The promise is not yet fulfilled. They are in the wilderness, yet they respond in incredible ways. And their response informs our response to our Savior Jesus! Listen in as we learn why wilderness people worship, even while we are in the middle of the wilderness.
Why does God set the people of Israel free using ten really terrible and destructive plagues? Some people say punishment. Some people even believe that God is just an angry and vindictive God who likes to "smite" people. But what if it's more than that? God actually gives us his answer the the story of the Exodus. Join in as we explore.
Sometimes things get worse before they get better. You can see this in your life whenever you have made a change, tried to quit a bad habit, or started a new exercise regimen. Sometimes when we try to follow God's plan for us, things get worse before they get better. Or sometimes life just takes a turn for the worse, seemingly disconnected from anything other than just the reality of this sinful reality of this world. This message gives us a strategy when things get hard.
This is the beginning of a journey with the Israelites into the wilderness in the book of Exodus. It may be hard to figure out how the book of Exodus has anything to say to us and I get that. But there is one similarity between us and those ancient, people of God. They are in the space between the promise and the fulfillment of the promise. They were promised to be a great nation, have land, and become a blessing to all people. We have been that Jesus will return and set all things right. In other words, we can find some important lessons from this space in Israelite history. This episode is the background to the whole series.
Jesus leads us to love both sinners and our enemies. But what about the sin? Jesus calls us to love people yet it is hard to know what we should do about the things in people's lives that are clearly sinful. Do we ignore it? Do we address it? What do we do about it? That's what Josh wrestles with in this message.
Jesus has turned his attention to his most important work, heading to Jerusalem to die for mankind. Yet this important work is interrupted by a man with a very important question. A question that is on the mind of most Jews of the first century A.D. and may be on the minds of people today as well, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus’ answer doesn’t include attendance, spiritual practices, or Bible verses. Instead his answer revolves around a taboo subject for many of us: money and wealth.
Guest speaker, Robert Ballew, challenges us to hand it all to God. He is in control!
