We are three friends that work in a church office together who had the idea to sit down with our friends and church members to hear their stories about seeing Jesus in their day to day, seasons of life, jobs, relationships, and more.
Emily and Jessica sit down with our own Pastor’s wife, Lindy Edwards to discuss the challenges and amazing triumphs she has experienced despite her struggle with anxiety. Beginning in her 20’s, she began to have an overwhelming feeling that something bad would happen to her and worry about her family. Despite concerns that she was dealing with a physical illness, after a several doctor’s appointments she was diagnosed with anxiety and learned to deal with the panic attacks associated with it. She shares her story of how God used her despite this difficulty.
Emily and Alisha chat with church member Barb Thomas about the unique ministry God gave her and her family through parenthood. She tells the story of all of the daughters that have lived with them over the years and how God laid that ministry on their hearts. Barb shares a humble perspective of her service to her family and how God has grown them through years of opening their home to others.
Emily and Alisha sit down with Lake Charles realtor, Amanda Cox to discuss balancing a face-paced, high pressure career and family life. She gives an encouraging testimony of her home roots in Hawaii and what drives her to be a wonderful caretaker of “her people” through real estate. She opens up about the parts of parenting that will inevitably slip through the cracks because of our sin nature, but the beauty she has found in being real with her children about who Jesus is and how only He can fill in those places that we fail.
Emily, Alisha, and Jessica sit down with their good friend, Amber Green, to talk about her choice to leave her job as a special education teacher to stay home with her daughters and help her husband's business. They also discuss their difficult experience with her husband's PTSD and how God has been faithful in seeing them through hard times.
Emily, Alisha, and Jessica spend time with McKenzie Grigg, one of our college students here at SSBC. They chat about her decision to leave McNeese and attend UL and how she deals with the "identity crisis" that often occurs for students in that season of life. They discuss the pressure of figuring out a plan for your life and career right out of high school and the grace God has with us when we are unsure. McKenzie possesses so much wisdom and love for students that she’s currently sharing with students at camp and with her future students in the classroom, and we are so grateful she decided to share with us on the show!
Emily has an awesome conversation with our Known Conference speaker and author, Scarlet Hiltibidal. They talk about freedom from righteous to do lists and we have the pleasure of hearing her story and the events that inspired her first book "Afraid Of All The Things."
Emily and Jessica sit down with Megan Hartman who is gracious enough to share the difficult season of watching her father suffer with Alzheimer’s. She shares about balancing her job that keeps her in the public eye while trying to understand an awful disease that eventually took her father’s life. She tells us about the wisdom she gained when she realized it’s okay to not be okay and about the grace God gives when we relinquish the imaginary control we think we have in difficult circumstances.
Jessica and Emily sit down with their good friend, Sarah Bankens, to talk about her journey with infertility and how she learned that God just wanted her to talk to Him and decide who she says He is. They discuss her previous health scares with a rare tumor in her jaw and how God used that hard season to prepare her heart for future trials. Tune in to hear how God blesses these difficulties and is holding her hand through it even as she walks through it today.
Alisha, Emily, and Jessica chat with church member Melanie Blackmer about the uncertainty of her children's health during a particularly scary period of searching for answers. Melanie shares about the hardest days and God’s victory over her fear. The wisdom and hope she shares from this shaky season is wisdom we can all apply to those times when we want to bang down the doors of heaven looking for answers. Melanie is a treasure to all of those around her and we are so grateful she came on the show to talk because her story is one we all can learn and grow from!
Emily and Jessica sit down with retiree, Nanette Fontenot, who speaks on God's will in retirement. She imparts so much wisdom from her teaching days, following the Lord into a new season of free time and ministry, and shares how to know what is your best “yes.” Her heart for the Lord is infectious and she is a treasure to everyone she meets.
Emily and Alisha sit down with their friend Lindsay about postpartum depression after her first son, Luke. They discuss what it feels like to feel Jesus in the darkness but holding tight to His Word that He is there. We also talk about the blessing of modern medicine and how that helped Lindsay come out of that difficult season.Show links:(A)Typical Woman bookBath & Body Works Aromatherapy Comfort Scent
