On today's episode, I'm joined by Kristin Juszczyk, founder of Off Season, to talk about how she went from teaching herself how to sew on YouTube to building one of the most exciting brands in sports fashion. Kristin shares the story behind her viral NFL game day designs, how Taylor Swift wearing one of her custom jackets changed everything, and the journey of turning a creative passion into a licensed apparel brand. We also discuss entrepreneurship, taking risks before you feel ready, navigating licensing deals with major sports leagues, building a brand from the ground up, balancing creativity with business, and why persistence is often the biggest competitive advantage. Whether you're an entrepreneur, fashion lover, or simply looking for inspiration to chase a big idea, this episode is packed with actionable insights and founder wisdom. Typography is often treated as a detail — the thing you finalize after the real design decisions are made. But for our next guest, it's closer to the foundation everything else rests on. He's spent two decades in editorial design at some of the most iconic American magazines — Men's Health, Esquire, Popular Science, Entertainment Weekly — and he's now the Creative Director of Fast Company, where he recently led a redesign that does something pretty unusual: the magazine gets a completely new typeface every single issue. His name is Mike Schnaidt. This is a preview of a premium episode. Visit our Substack to listen to the entire interview: https://designbetterpodcast.com/p/mike-schnaidt Mike's also a professor, a runner, and the author of Creative Endurance — a book that maps the principles of physical and mental endurance onto the creative life. It's built around 56 rules for sustaining a career in design, drawn from interviews with ultra-marathoners, astronauts, and designers who've pushed way past the limits most people set for themselves. And as you'll hear, he's already working on book two. We chat about the nuts and bolts of typography (utilitarian vs. expressive, food metaphors, Fast Company's per-issue typeface system) to the philosophy underneath it all (design as service, authorship, hospitality). We dig into his book Creative Endurance — 56 rules for sustaining a creative career drawn from athletes, astronauts, and designers — and his counterintuitive take on burnout: the cure isn't rest, it's picking up something creatively different. Bio Mike Schnaidt is the creative director of Fast Company. He's also the host of the Webby-awarded video series It's All in the Typeface, a professor of illustration at the School of Visual Arts, and the former president of the Society of Publication Designers. One of the coolest moments in his life was when Paula Scher said his first book, Creative Endurance, was “beautifully designed.” His second book arrives in 2028. *** Premium Episodes on Design Better This is a premium episode on Design Better. What if the quality of your life is hidden inside the quality of the questions you're willing to ask?In this episode of ALLSMITH, Bryce explores a collection of questions that have been sitting with him lately—questions sparked by conversations with clients, friends, guests, members of the ALLSMITH community, and his own experiences navigating health, relationships, grief, business, marriage, and personal growth. This isn't an episode about having all the answers. It's a conversation and an exploration. An exploration of commitment, loneliness, purpose, health, character, judgment, observation, wonder, and what it actually means to build a beautiful life in a world that often feels busy, distracted, entertained, and disconnected.Bryce dives into topics like people pleasing, ghosting culture, confidence, modern loneliness, social media validation, courage, responsibility, and why many of life's greatest breakthroughs begin with a better question. At ALLSMITH, we believe fitness is the vessel. But the destination has always been something bigger:A beautiful life. And sometimes a single question can change the direction of an entire life.In This Episode:Are you exhausted because life is hard, or because you're carrying things that no longer belong to you?The difference between being nice and being goodWhy confidence is built through evidence, not affirmationWhat commitment can teach us about health, relationships, business, and lifeGhosting culture and the cost of avoiding responsibilityThe hidden difference between recovery and escapeWhy money can't solve loneliness, purpose, or belongingReplacing judgment with observation and curiosityLearning how to wonder instead of reactListening to the signals your body has been sendingQuestioning your definition of successLearning to trust yourself and make difficult decisionsWhat grief, adversity, and uncertainty can teach usWhy better questions often lead to better livesQuotes From This Episode:“Confidence is built through evidence, not affirmation.”“Resentment is often the receipt for an agreement we never should have made.”“The life you want is often hidden behind the commitment you're avoiding.”“The body whispers before it screams.”“A full calendar doesn't guarantee a full life.”“The wrong mountain still takes a lifetime to climb.”“Clarity is often the reward for courage.”“Every season leaves something behind for those willing to pay attention.”Key Takeaways:Better questions often create better lives.Character matters more than reputation.Commitment is becoming a lost art—and one of life's greatest competitive advantages.Observation creates understanding. Judgment often ends it.Wonder and curiosity are powerful tools for growth.Health is not the destination, but it may be the most important vehicle.Building a beautiful life requires intention, courage, and consistency. The quality of your life is often hidden inside the quality of the questions you're willing to ask.Question of the Week:What question are you avoiding because you're afraid of the answer?Sit with it.Journal on it.Bring it to dinner.Talk about it with someone you trust.Because sometimes the question we've been avoiding is the one we need most.Connect With ALLSMITH:Instagram: @allsmithcoBryce: @therealbrycesmithWebsite: http://ALLSMITH.coSubscribe to the ALLSMITH Newsletter for weekly reflections, practical tools, stories, and conversations designed to help you build a stronger body, sharper mind, and more meaningful life.If this episode resonates with you, share it with a friend and send us the question that's been sitting with you lately. At ALLSMITH, we don't just search for better answers. We ask better questions.Much love.Welcome to ALLSMITH.Thank you for Listening! Are you dealing with unexpected weight regain or debilitating acid reflux years after your bariatric surgery? You are not alone. In this episode of the Our Sleeved Life Podcast (OSLP), Mel sits down with bariatric surgeon Dr. Betsy Dovec and registered dietitian Hannah Schuyler, the power duo behind Body by Bariatrics. Together, they pull back the curtain on why gastric sleeves commonly lead to new-onset acid reflux, what a "retained fundus" actually means for your hunger hormones (ghrelin), and why weight regain is often a structural issue rather than a personal failure. Dr. Dovec and Hannah share how their patient-first, 100% virtual private practice is completely disrupting hospital-employed healthcare models by slashing 6-month wait times down to just one week. Plus, we explore the powerful, synergistic relationship between bariatric surgery and GLP-1 medications, why insurance hoops are fundamentally broken, and whether or not there's an age limit to reclaiming your vitality. If you've been suffering in silence or beating yourself up over your post-op struggles, this episode is a must-watch masterclass on reclaiming your health, your quality of life, and your anatomy! ✨ Take action on your health today! What happens when your child has violent outbursts, or acts out violently? What if that child seems unable to control their emotions or their behavior? Welcome back to The Empowered w/ Deanna Merlino Podcast! In this episode, I focus on the often-unspoken “sisterhood wound,” exploring the emotional challenges and personal growth that come from evolving friendships and seeking authentic connection. One concept I discuss is how personal change can shift relationship dynamics, sometimes leading to a necessary shedding of old friendships and the courage it takes to step into new, aligned circles. A key theme that comes through is the importance of healing childhood and adolescent wounds around belonging and acceptance, as well as questioning societal programming that pits women against each other. The discussion explored the power of embracing your true self, finding safety in vulnerability, and the collective potential that arises when women support and empower one another. I invite you to reflect on your own experiences and consider how releasing old patterns can lead to deeper, more fulfilling connections and a brighter, more empowered community - and us doing this TOGETHER.

Psychologists Off The Clock: A Psychology Podcast About The Science And Practice Of Living Well
We've been told forever that women are the only natural caregivers, but neuroscience shows that's just not true; men actually go through huge biological shifts when they become dads, too.Sitting down with Emily for this episode is clinical psychologist Darby Saxbe, who chats to us about her book Dad Brain: The New Science of Fatherhood and How It Shapes Men's Lives, which challenges neo-traditional assumptions about parenting roles. Their conversation highlights the biological reality of fatherhood, exploring how men experience hormonal shifts, brain changes, and even paternal postpartum depression. Darby also uncovers how hands-on parenting trends are shifting across generations, the connection between relationship conflict and a dad's mental health, and how policy changes like paid paternity leave can transform modern family dynamics.Listen and Learn:How the modern science of fatherhood rewrites traditional gender roles, why the "Dad Brain" is biologically wired for caregiving, and how millennial and Gen Z fathers are redefining the rewards and divides of modern parentingThe concept of "facultative adaptation" and how it shapes the natural variability of fatherhood How a father's brain and body prepare for parenthood during pregnancyHow a couple's relationship conflict during pregnancy can directly impact the labor and delivery experience Why the prenatal period is a critical window for couples to proactively strengthen their communication, navigate relationship shifts, and better manage the stress and emotional toll of childbirth and early parenthood The ways postpartum depression manifests in new dads How a father's hormone levels naturally drop after birth and why high testosterone can unexpectedly strain romantic relationships and parenting The unique benefits of the father-child relationship Why we need to view men's mental health through a family lens How progressive policy shifts are working to empower and destigmatize active fatherhood Resources: Dad Brain: The New Science of Fatherhood and How It Shapes Men's Lives https://bookshop.org/a/30734/9781250387523 Darby's Website: https://www.darbysaxbe.comDarby's Substack: https://darbysaxbe.substack.comConnect with Darby on Social Media: https://www.linkedin.com/in/darbysaxbehttps://www.instagram.com/darbysaxbephd/Behind Every Dad Bod is a Healthy Dad Brain https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/06/opinion/dad-brain-health-fatherhood.htmlAbout Darby SaxbeDarby Saxbe, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and tenured full professor of psychology at the University of Southern California. She has published over eighty scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and secured major research grants from the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation. You're trying to recover. The whole world seems to be on a shot, shrinking on purpose, celebrating it loudly. And somewhere underneath all of that, a quieter question keeps surfacing in you: is what I'm doing to my body actually hurting me? That question is the whole episode. If you've been afraid to ask it out loud — this one's for you. In this one, Lindsey opens up about the moment "just trying to be healthy" stopped serving her life and started running it, what restriction quietly takes that no scale can show, and the truth she wants you to hold onto in a culture that keeps telling you to make yourself smaller. This isn't a meal plan. It's not a fear list. It's an honest word, woman to woman, for the one who's wondering if she's okay. What this episode is really about How "wellness" can quietly become the cage The cultural moment we're in — GLP-1s, shrinking-culture, and what it's like to try to recover in the middle of it The real, honest answer to "is this hurting me?" — without giving the disorder one more thing to monitor What restriction takes that no one talks about: not what you see in the mirror, but what makes you you Why your wondering is the wisest part of you The truth that you were chosen to be free — right now, as you are A few lines from the episode "A lot of us didn't fall into this through vanity. We fell in through wellness." "You're not losing what you see in the mirror. You're losing what makes you you." "If that question is in you at all — listen to it. That's not fear talking. That's the wisest part of you, the part that's still on your side." "Health was never the number. It never was." "You can feel the storm and not be the storm." "You were chosen to be free. Not free once you fix it. Free right now, as you are, in the middle of the struggle." If something in this episode is sitting with you You don't have to untangle this alone — and you were never supposed to. Lindsey works one-on-one with women who are ready to stop white-knuckling recovery by themselves, and her Freedom Formula experience is the space where you'll be supported and surrounded as you do the real work of coming home to yourself. What if the key to reducing stress, taming inflammation, and building true resilience was already wired inside you? In this illuminating episode, Dr. Fiona Lovely welcomes fellow chiropractor and functional medicine expert Dr. Navaz Habib, bestselling author of Activate Your Vagus Nerve and Upgrade Your Vagus Nerve, to explore the body's most underappreciated healing pathway. Dr. Habib shares his personal journey from chronic health struggles to discovering functional medicine, which led him to a powerful realization: uncontrolled inflammation is the common thread behind most chronic illnesses, and the vagus nerve holds the master switch. He breaks down why eighty percent of vagus nerve signals travel from the body to the brain—not the other way around—and how this changes everything for women navigating perimenopause. Listeners will learn why declining estrogen leaves them more vulnerable to inflammation, how heart rate variability serves as a window into nervous system health, and why protecting sleep is non-negotiable. Dr. Habib also delivers a memorable distinction between comfort and safety, explaining why scrolling a phone may feel soothing but never truly calming. He then offers three practical pillars of vagus nerve training: nasal breathing, diaphragmatic breathing, and longer exhales, with simple temperature therapy to build adaptive capacity. Episode Highlights: Why chronic inflammation is the common path behind most modern illnesses. The surprising truth is that 80% of vagus nerve signals travel from organs to the brain. How declining estrogen during perimenopause worsens inflammation without a strong vagus nerve. The critical difference between comfort and safety—and why your phone can't give you either. Three specific breathing techniques to build vagal tone and increase heart rate variability. Simple temperature contrast methods to build resilience, starting with just twenty seconds. Tune in to learn how to stop seeking comfort and start building the nervous system resilience every woman in midlife deserves. Can health and fitness improve your life without becoming your entire identity? In this episode of the Almost Daily Podcast, I explore the idea that while health and fitness are incredibly important, they are only one part of building a fulfilling life.Inspired by my friend Chad Williams and the work he's doing to create more inclusive communities through fitness, I discuss why some of the most meaningful things we can do involve supporting others, creating connections, and using our experiences to contribute to something larger than ourselves. We talk about the role fitness plays in personal growth, why recovery and longevity matter, and how health and fitness can serve as a catalyst for building relationships, discovering new interests, and creating positive change in the lives of others.I also share my thoughts on why it's important to avoid making fitness your entire identity and how focusing on community, encouragement, and connection can lead to a richer and more meaningful life.Topics Covered:• Making fitness bigger than yourself• Building community through health and fitness• Why connection matters• Supporting and encouraging others• The importance of recovery and longevity• Finding common ground with people• Health and fitness as a catalyst for growth• Avoiding an all-consuming fitness identity• Creating a fulfilling life beyond exercise• The future direction of Your Level FitnessEmail Daryl:daryl@yourlevelfitness.comHealth and fitness can help you build a better life, but the goal isn't simply to become healthier. The goal is to create a life that feels meaningful, connected, and worth living while bringing others along with you.
Pandemic Policies, Vaccines, and Harms to Children: pediatrician and author Dr. Elizabeth Mumper discusses her book “Kids and COVID: Costly Mistakes That Must Never Happen Again.” Mumper argues parents should question authorities, citing early pandemic decisions such as lockdowns, masking, and a “one size fits all” vaccine strategy despite children's low risk from COVID. She supports the Great Barrington Declaration's focus on protecting high-risk groups and criticizes suppression of repurposed treatments like hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. The discussion raises concerns about mRNA vaccine safety, biodistribution of lipid nanoparticles, underreporting to VAERS, loss of long-term control groups, myocarditis risk in young males, and claims of severe neurologic effects and “turbo cancers.” Mumper describes developmental, educational, and mental-health harms from masking and school closures, challenges vaccine mandates as violating informed consent, explains the cell danger response concept, and criticizes Paxlovid while favoring integrative approaches.
Dr. Hoffman continues his conversation with pediatrician and author Dr. Elizabeth Mumper.

Send us Fan MailIf I walked into your organization today and asked you one simple question — “What is your revenue cycle trying to tell you?” — would you know the answer? Not your collections rate. Not your days in A/R. Not your monthly deposits. I mean the deeper answer. What operational stories are hiding inside your numbers right now?Because most healthcare organizations still think about revenue cycle as a billing department function. Claims go out. Payments come in. Denials get worked. Aging gets reviewed. End of story. But high-performing organizations understand something very different: your revenue cycle is not just billing. It is operational intelligence. It is one of the clearest mirrors of how your organization is actually functioning.Every metric tells a story. Your denial patterns tell stories. Your charge lag tells stories. Your payer behavior tells stories. Your provider coding and undercoding variation tells stories. Your scheduling data tells stories. Even your unapplied credits and unpostables tell stories. And the organizations that thrive financially are usually the organizations that have learned how to listen carefully. So today I want to challenge you to think differently about your revenue cycle. Not as a back-office function. Not as an administrative burden. But as one of the most important diagnostic tools in your entire organization.Because here's the truth: your revenue cycle is talking to you every single day. The question is whether anyone is listening. Please Follow or Subscribe to get new episodes delivered to you as soon as they drop! Shelby Jacquier Washburn, is a fourth-generation dairy farmer and managing partner at Laurel Brook Farm in East Canaan, Connecticut, describes returning from an equine business program during COVID to help manage a 1,500-cow herd and 1,800 acres each of corn and hay/haylage while raising all young stock. In today's conversation, she explains how accepting a 200-tag Nedap trial led to whole-herd collars (Nedap Now) that detect health issues 12–24 hours earlier via rumination, eating time, and milk deviations, informing earlier treatment and culling decisions, identifying lameness, and paying back about half the system cost in a year through reduced hospital time. Data prompted diet changes for fresh cows, improved heats and overall cow brightness, new transition protocols (moving pre-fresh cows two days before due date) that boosted colostrum supply, and heat-stress monitoring that revealed the parlor as a hotspot, leading to added evaporative cooling, fans, and water. This episode is part of the High-Performance Mindset Series powered by Nedap. "We did this survey with a third-party consulting group who talked to 2,000 brokers. Their perception was that 25% of bills are going to be balance bills; it's actually 3%."Is Reference-Based Pricing (RBP) still something that just creates endless problems for HR?My guest this week is Jeff Bak, CEO of Imagine360. Jeff brings 30 years of healthcare and private equity experience to the table, and he's leading the charge to rebrand and evolve RBP from a defensive "pay and defend" model into a comprehensive, full-stack alternative health plan.In this episode, we tackle the persistent broker misconceptions surrounding RBP, dissecting exactly why the actual balance bill rate is closer to 3% while plan savings average over 20%. We also explore how Imagine360 blends RBP with strategic direct hospital contracts (like Baylor and Northwestern) to give employees a seamless "PPO-like" experience without the inflated PPO price tag. Jeff also breaks down the reality of the No Surprises Act (NSA) and Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) process, and why hospitals are currently winning the majority of those arbitration cases. If you are a benefits consultant or an employer looking to truly break away from the traditional "BUCA" networks, while ensuring your employees aren't stranded with unmanageable balance bills, this conversation is the reality check you need.Thank you to our 2026 sponsors!ParetoHealth: ParetoHealth empowers midsize employers with a long-term solution to reduce volatility and lower overall health benefits costs.
