We start the week in Minneapolis where a 37-year-old woman was shot and killed by an ICE officer on Wednesday. Authorities claim the woman attacked officers while they were digging their car out of the snow, but video from the scene and the municipal officials heavily dispute that claim. This week GOP lawmakers from Minnesota testified at a hastily-scheduled House Oversight Committee hearing about welfare fraud scandal allegations in their state. And on Tuesday, the Department of Health and Human Services froze $10 billion in five states including Minnesota, New York, California, Illinois and Colorado. That funding covers childcare subsidies, cash support for low-income families, and other social services.Meanwhile, its been nearly one week since Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were captured by U.S. forces and brought to face charges of narco-terrorism on American soil. And the Trump administration's actions in Venezuela are having ripple effects across the globe. Europe is on edge as the U.S president this week suggested the territory could be in his crosshairs next, raising questions about America's relationship with NATO.Also this week, President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending U.S. support for global 66 organizations, agencies, and commissions, following his administration's review of participation in and funding for all international organizations.Find more of our programs online. In this episode of the Tick Boot Camp Podcast, Dr. Eric D. Gordon — globally recognized expert in Lyme disease, ME/CFS, mold toxicity, MCAS, mitochondrial dysfunction, and complex chronic illness — explains why chronic illness is never caused by a single factor and why recovery requires a strategic “order of operations.” Recorded after meeting at Project Lab Coat during NYFW, this conversation dives into chronic inflammation, immune dysregulation, why some people stay sick for years, why certain treatments backfire, how metabolomics reveals dysfunction that standard tests miss, and the future of individualized chronic illness care. Guest Bio Medical Director, Gordon Medical Associates, and President, Gordon Medical Research Center Dr. Gordon has 45+ years of experience treating the most complex chronic illness cases. He specializes in: Lyme disease and tick-borne infections ME/CFS and post-infectious illness Mold and mycotoxin exposure Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) Autoimmune disease Environmental illness Mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic collapse He co-authored the landmark 2016 PNAS metabolomics study with Dr. Robert Naviaux, which reshaped global understanding of ME/CFS and chronic inflammatory diseases. Key Topics Covered How Dr. Gordon became one of the world's leading chronic illness clinicians Why patient belief and validation are foundational to healing Why chronic illness cases don't fit conventional medical models Why herbs often worsen symptoms in MCAS or inflamed patients When pharmaceuticals help stabilize sensitive patients How chronic inflammation blocks trace mineral absorption The link between minerals, B vitamins, mitochondria, and NAD/NADH When detoxification helps — and when it causes more harm How childhood infections and environment shape lifelong immunity The massive impact of modern microbiome disruption Mold illness as the “great derailer” of Lyme treatment Why genetics like MTHFR and HLA are not destiny Why some people heal from Lyme without treatment How metabolomics and AI will usher in precision medicine What actually keeps people sick — accumulated compensations, not the tick bite What intuitive patients get right (and wrong) about their symptoms Timestamps 0:02 – Meeting Dr. Gordon at Project Labcoat 1:08 – Who he is and how he entered complex illness medicine 2:30 – Realizing conventional medicine fails chronic patients 5:45 – Why chronic illness doesn't fit standard algorithms 8:10 – Herbs vs antibiotics: what most people misunderstand 11:28 – Inflammation and why sensitive patients react to everything 13:45 – MCAS and immune overactivation 16:25 – Why herbal formulas can trigger flares 19:30 – Pharmaceuticals that calm inflammation 20:50 – Trace minerals, mitochondrial function, and NAD pathways 23:55 – Why standard labs can't see cellular dysfunction 26:10 – How childhood immune experiences shape resilience 28:40 – Environmental changes and microbiome decline 30:30 – Shoes, posture, fascia, lymphatics 36:35 – Structural healing and hypersensitive patients 41:20 – Founding Gordon Medical Associates 43:00 – Early discoveries with Lyme disease patients 48:30 – Detoxification, herbal protocols, and mold models 52:10 – Mold's ability to halt all progress 55:30 – Why mold affects some family members and not others 57:20 – How food supply antibiotics disrupt immunity 59:50 – Genetics are possibilities, not fate 1:03:20 – Why some people recover after a tick bite and others don't 1:07:00 – How AI and metabolomics will transform treatment 1:10:40 – Genes vs environment 1:13:30 – Chronic illness requires many small steps 1:16:00 – How to work with Dr. Gordon 1:18:30 – Final message of hope Pull Quotes “Chronic illness is not caused by one thing — and it's never healed by one thing.” “Herbs depend on your body's ability to modulate inflammation. If you can't dampen the fire, herbs feel like gasoline.” “Genetics are not destiny. They're possibilities.” “Mold makes every other treatment look like it's failing.” “You can absolutely get well — but there is no single magic bullet.” Call to Action If this episode brought you clarity or hope, please share it with someone navigating chronic Lyme, mold illness, MCAS, or ME/CFS. Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this Friday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan covers the escalating confrontation between Minnesota Democrats and federal immigration authorities, growing unrest tied to anti-ICE activism, new economic signals from the White House, rising global pressure on Iran and China, and a look at medical and technology developments heading into the weekend. Minnesota Democrats Escalate Against ICE: Minnesota media outlets and national Democrats are facing backlash after doxxing the ICE officer involved in the fatal shooting of activist Renee Good. DHS officials warn the move could put officers and their families in danger, echoing past incidents in Los Angeles where officers faced threats and harassment. Vice President JD Vance defended the ICE agent, stating that video and medical evidence clearly show the officer acted in self-defense after being struck by Good's vehicle. Radicalization and Anti-ICE Networks Exposed: Reporting reveals that Good was radicalized through a charter school that prioritizes political activism and later trained with a group called ICE Watch, which teaches tactics to obstruct immigration raids. Bryan explains how activists are instructed to use vehicles, barricades, and incendiary materials to block officers, behavior he says amounts to organized domestic extremism rather than peaceful protest. ICE Operations Expand Nationwide: President Trump is sending an additional 100 ICE officers to Minneapolis, bringing total deployments there to roughly 2,000. In Portland, Oregon, two Venezuelan migrants affiliated with the Tren de Aragua gang were shot after allegedly attempting to run over an ICE officer during a traffic stop tied to a prostitution investigation. Democratic leaders condemned ICE actions in both cities, while the administration argues officers are responding to lethal threats. California Loses Federal Transportation Funding: The Trump administration is withholding 160 million dollars from California after audits found that roughly one quarter of the state's commercial driver licenses were issued unlawfully, including to foreign-born drivers who cannot read or speak English. Advocacy groups representing migrant truckers sued to block the revocations, and Governor Gavin Newsom sided with them, prompting federal retaliation. Bryan warns that unsafe licensing practices have already contributed to deadly accidents nationwide. Trump Seeks Massive Military Expansion: President Trump is proposing a $1.5 trillion defense budget, up from $900 billion currently. He argues the increase is necessary for future conflicts and could be funded through tariffs. Budget analysts warn the move could add nearly $6 trillion to the national debt over a decade, raising questions about sustainability and congressional approval. Economic Signals Show Mixed Progress: Layoffs fell in December, trade deficits shrank to their lowest levels since 2009, and the White House announced plans to purchase $200 billion in mortgage bonds to lower interest rates. Federal employment continues to decline as agencies shrink outside of DHS. Bryan notes the strategy appears to be working so far, but court rulings on tariffs could complicate the outlook. Global Pressure Builds on Iran and China: Protests are spreading across Iran, including strikes at critical oil facilities, prompting a violent crackdown by regime forces. President Trump warned that further bloodshed could trigger U.S. intervention. Meanwhile, China is tightening its grip on rare earth exports, cutting off Japan and reminding the world that Beijing will weaponize supply chains whenever it chooses. Health and Technology Updates: New research suggests that certain cancer patients may need to reconsider high glutamine diets during treatment, while UK studies confirm that stopping GLP one weight loss drugs leads to rapid weight regain. Bryan closes with optimism about new lightweight exoskeletons showcased at CES, which may help older adults and injured individuals regain mobility and independence. "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32 Keywords: January 9 2026 Wright Report, Renee Good ICE shooting Minneapolis, JD Vance self defense statement, ICE Watch activist training, Tren de Aragua Portland ICE shooting, California CDL audit funding withheld, Gavin Newsom migrant truck licenses, Trump defense budget one point five trillion, tariff Supreme Court ruling risk, Iran protests oil strike crackdown, China rare earth export squeeze Japan, CES exoskeleton mobility technology

In this powerful and deeply personal conversation, Darin sits down with Hagen Thiers to unpack one of the most misunderstood journeys in health: why doing "everything right" still doesn't always work — and how true transformation requires decoding the body's survival signals, not fighting them. Hagen shares his remarkable physical transformation after decades of extreme metabolic adaptation, chronic gut inflammation, and stress-driven physiology. Together, they explore metabolism, inflammation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, protein intake, discipline, and why sustainable health is built through patience, self-leadership, and listening to the body's intelligence. When my therapist first told me to start journaling as part of my recovery practice, I literally laughed in her face. Journaling? Like... affirmations? I didn't believe that writing in a notebook would help me recover from my eating disorder. It seemed too simple. Too basic. Too... pointless. But sis, I was so wrong. Journaling didn't just help me recover. It actually saved my life. And if fear is keeping you stuck in restrictive behaviors right now—if you're terrified to recover because you're not sure who you'll be without your eating disorder—then you need to hear this. In this episode, I'm breaking down the 7 science-backed benefits of journaling that transformed my recovery and why this simple practice might be the missing piece in yours. We live in a culture of information overload—endless scrolling, constant content, comparison on every platform. But what if instead of consuming more, you need to process what's already in your mind? According to the National Institute of Health, 26% of adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. And yet, only 8% of the world population keeps a journal. It's time to go back to the basics. It's time to slow down. It's time to give your brain the space it needs to heal. In this episode, you'll discover: Why I laughed when my therapist suggested journaling (and why I was so wrong) The shocking statistics about mental health and why we need to process, not just consume 7 powerful benefits of journaling in eating disorder recovery (backed by science) How journaling reduces anxiety and depression while boosting your immune system Why getting thoughts OUT of your mind is critical for cognitive processing How writing promotes healing, acceptance, and actually changes your brain The way I used journaling to replace negative coping mechanisms with positive ones How journaling gives you reset, redirection, and compassion for your journey Why reflecting on your progress through old journals sparks hope and momentum Practical tips on how to start journaling TODAY (no fancy notebook required) If you've been stuck, if you've been overwhelmed by the thoughts in your mind, if you don't know where to go next—this episode is your permission to start simple. Start small. Start today. Journaling changed my life. And it can change yours too. KEY QUOTES FROM THIS EPISODE

Nutritionist Leyla Muedin discusses the crucial importance of Omega-3 fats, particularly emphasizing their role in mental and heart health. She highlights a recent UK Biobank study demonstrating that higher Omega-3 levels are linked to a significantly lower risk of self-harm and suicidal ideation. Additionally, another study in the Journal of the American Heart Association reveals that elevated Omega-3 levels correlate with a reduced risk of atrial fibrillation (AFib). Leyla underscores the necessity of a balanced diet rich in Omega-3 sources like fatty fish and grass-fed meats, arguing that these nutrients are crucial for optimal mental and heart health.

Send us a textHow agricultural practices influence the nutrient density of foods, particularly meat, and the importance of hidden compounds beyond standard nutrition labels.TOPICS DISCUSSED:Nutrient density profiling: Labs analyze thousands of compounds beyond macros and vitamins; this “dark matter” includes phytonutrients that may support health despite not being essential.Phytonutrients in foods: Plant secondary metabolites like polyphenols act as antioxidants and influence pathways like mTOR; animals convert plant compounds into bioactives humans access via meat.Red meat definition: Refers to meats high in myoglobin, including beef and lamb; most meats are red in wild forms, but human intervention affects color and classification.Ruminant animals: Animals like cows that have multi-chambered stomachs to digest plants; this metabolism differs from non-ruminants (e.g. chickens), affecting nutrient profiles in their meat.Grass-fed vs. grain-fed beef: Grass-fed has higher omega-3 fats and phytonutrients from diverse plants; studies show it improves human omega-6:3 ratios and biomarkers from grass-fed, pastured-raised animals.Farming practices & variations: Plant diversity boosts beef nutrients.Upcoming research: Long-term trials on effects of pasture-raised foods on human health; interactive dashboards for farmers to profile nutrients and inform policy.ABOUT THE GUEST: Stephan Van Vliet, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences at Utah State University, where he directs the Center for Human Nutrition Studies, focusing on linking food production systems to nutrient profiles and conducting clinical trials on health impacts.Support the showAffiliates: Lumen device to optimize your metabolism for weight loss or athletic performance. Angela is joined by Dr Will B to examine the critical relationship between meal timing, gut health, and inflammation. They discuss how eating close to bedtime can negatively impact heart rate variability and create an inflammatory state in the body, particularly affecting the gut microbiome. They also look at the importance of allowing the gut to enter a recovery mode during the night and emphasise the benefits of earlier meal times KEY TAKEAWAYS: Meal Timing and Inflammation: Eating close to bedtime can lead to increased inflammation, as the body's inflammatory response peaks about six hours after a meal Importance of Fasting: Allowing the gut a fasting period of about 12 hours overnight can help recalibrate the gut microbiome, promoting a healthier gut environment and supporting overall health. Four Nutritional Pillars: To support a healthy microbiome and reduce inflammation, focus on four key nutrients: fibre, polyphenols, healthy fats, and fermented foods Dietary Patterns: While various dietary patterns (like vegan, carnivore, or keto) are often debated, the focus should be on ensuring adequate intake of the four nutritional pillars rather than adhering strictly to a specific diet TIMESTAMPS AND KEY TOPICS: [00:02:21] Nighttime gut microbiome recovery.
