Health care strategist Dana Y. Lujan discusses her article "Why direct primary care (DPC) models fail." Dana argues that the DPC community's obsession with "purity" is missing the point, stating that these models don't fail over ideology, they fail because of bad math. She uses the University of Houston's $1 million clinic failure as a prime example of a "fundamental market mismatch," where a DPC model was placed in a low-income area that couldn't sustain its membership fees (a ~70 percent revenue deficit). Dana also debunks the myth that institutions can't run successful DPC programs, citing CHI Health and Johns Hopkins as proof that financial sustainability and market fit are the true keys. This episode explores the critical difference between what's legally permissible and what's operationally sustainable, and why the DPC conversation must shift from philosophy to execution. Learn why you cannot "subscription-model your way out of poverty." Our presenting sponsor is Microsoft Dragon Copilot. Hey lady! We know that the daily onslaught of the news of these times can be distressing and difficult to ignore. There are genuine reasons to feel alarm during the current administration but we are blessed to have a deep history of having visionaries, luminaries, and trailblazers offer a blueprint of how to imagine brighter tomorrows.Octavia Butler is one of the most prescient artists of our time but her life was lived somewhat in obscurity, only coming to prominence long after her death. Yet, her writing gave way to world-building where weird, strange, genius Black women could write themselves into the future by being present with their experience. Dr. Susana M. Morris, a waymaker in her own right as a founding member of the Crunk Feminist Collective and author of Positive Obsession: The Life and Times of Octavia Butler, explores how Octavia's life circumstances, disciplined writing practice, and passion birthed works that offer a clear-eyed examination of society and culture while also giving full permission for Black women to indulge our imaginations for a beautiful future that includes us!Join Terri and Dr. Dom as they have a spirited discussion with Susana about Octavia Butler and her powerful artistry. While Octavia made it clear that she was not a prophet; she was so deeply connected to her dreams and words that she manifested a body of work that has inspired generations of future trailblazers and wayshowers. Quote of the Day:"Black women writers are necessary so that Black women can define and depict their own experiences rather than being objects in the stories of others." – Octavia Butler  Where to find Susana Morris:Website: Susanmorris.comBook: Positive Obsession: The Life and Times of Octavia ButlerInstagram: @susiemayeTwitter (X): @iamcrunkadelicThreads: @susiemaye    Goal Mapping Starter GuideCultivating H.E.R. Man, this week was a whirlwind. Greg and I kicked things off running on 3.5 hours of sleep, fresh off the trip to Hack Your Health in Tampa. Between the travel, the steakhouse meat sweats, and a heavy training day, everything felt a little heavier than normal — but we still got after it.The event itself was awesome. I sat on the food addiction panel, which was packed again this year — standing room only. The panel lineup was solid, and we all wished we had more than 40 minutes because that topic deserves way more depth. Robin even mentioned maybe bumping us to a bigger stage next year.We recapped the whole Tampa weekend — Whole Foods runs, hanging with Bill and Christina, early-morning workouts with Danny Vega, Mike Mutzel, Jonathan Shane, and others. I left midday Saturday to swing by Dom D'Agostino's place, tour his property, chainsaw fallen trees, and hit an outdoor lift before meeting back up with the guys for Brazilian BBQ.Back home, we're gearing up for Thanksgiving week — a short but heavy workload. We've got team training on the new software and a big wave of packaging to prep for.The big announcement: We're launching the Tallow Nootropic Brick with Keto Brainz — dropping this Sunday at noon Central. Full serving of nootropics, whey-based, no nut butter, and honestly… The tallow version blew the original cacao version out of the water. On the homestead front, I might finally get my truck back after replacing basically the whole front end — and yes, I went ahead and upgraded to a lift and bigger tires because, why not? We're also adding pigs to the farm this week, so I've been building shelters and prepping electric fencing. Super excited for Rigel to have real daily responsibilities; chores build discipline, character, and work ethic. And then… the spicy teaser: We've got nine pallets of extremely high-end gear in transit from Canada — the best bags and accessories I've ever used. The import duties were insane, like “could've bought a car” insane, but we're committed to offering the best when we relaunch apparel in early 2026. It's going to be a full lifestyle line, not just T-shirts.We wrapped up talking travel, camaraderie, and why it's great to be surrounded by people who just get the lifestyle — early gyms, Whole Foods runs, cooking at the Airbnb, no explanations needed.Another solid week, another packed episode. Few leaders have shaped the identity of America's Special Forces more than President John F. Kennedy. In just three years as Commander in Chief, JFK redefined how the United States would fight, lead, and prepare for an uncertain world, one that demanded unconventional solutions and elite warriors ready to face any challenge. As the Cold War escalated, President Kennedy saw the need for a new kind of Soldier, one trained to think, adapt, and win in conflicts fought not only on the battlefield, but through influence, innovation, and resilience. His vision for military modernization gave birth to the era of Unconventional Warfare and cemented the role of the Green Berets in America's national defense strategy. From his visit to Fort Bragg and the historic meeting with Brigadier General William Yarborough, to the moment he publicly endorsed the Green Beret as “a symbol of excellence, a badge of courage, and a mark of distinction in the fight for freedom,” JFK's leadership transformed Special Forces from a small experimental group into a cornerstone of American military power.Today, that legacy continues, honored each year at the JFK Wreath Laying Ceremony, carried forward by generations of Green Berets who live by the same principles of courage, creativity, and service that JFK saw as vital to the nation's defense. From the USASOC History Office, Fran Racioppi sat down with two of the historians who've preserved and advanced this legacy; Dr. Troy Sacquety and Dr. Jared Tracy. Their work ensures JFK's vision is never forgotten. We explored the strategic thinking behind Kennedy's military modernization, the significance of the Green Beret endorsement, and why, decades later, the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School still bears his name. We also discussed the legacy-building moment of JFK's recent induction as Distinguished Member of the Regiment and the enduring symbolism of the annual wreath laying at Arlington. This episode is about vision, legacy, and the enduring bond between a President and the warriors he inspired - the Green Berets.HIGHLIGHTS0:00 Introduction1:58 Welcome to the USASOC Historians Office2:57 JFK and Green Berets5:34 USASOC Historian role & importance10:57 JFK's vision18:11 USASOC capability in the 1960's21:05 JFK's impact28:24 DMOR induction33:54 A world with JFK?QUOTES“What really struck us was how great of a speech giver he was.” “The most important thing we could do is preserve the history of our organization.” “On any given day, I could be working on something that comes from 1774 to yesterday.” “Kennedy viewed the Army Special Forces as the natural fit to be able to fill that role.” “He's very deliberate in wanting to make Special Forces a part of his program.” “Can we do this as a nation every time there's a need to contain the spread of communism?” “During the Kennedy administration, the term Special Warfare was not very well defined at all.” “Without the Korean War, you don't have the ability to do Special Operations in Vietnam.”“It's part of the identity of Special Forces.” “Everyone assumes it was done. And does Simon Harris possess the right skillset for the role of Minister for Finance? It might not matter if the qualified doctors who have run the Department of Health are anything to go by. · Paschal leaving has led to a Cabinet reshuffle with Fine Gael deputy leader Helen McEntee becoming the first woman to serve as the Minister responsible for both foreign affairs and defence. She will inherit many issues in need of urgent attention, not least the progression of the Occupied Territories Bill. · And the Oireachtas transport committee was told on Wednesday that Dublin's planned MetroLink will need about 8,000 workers for its construction. Speaking to RTÉ radio, transportation expert Brian Caulfield suggested that “something like an Olympic village” would be necessary to house workers on the project.
