On today's episode I am talking again with Laney Crowell, Founder and CEO of Saie Beauty. A lot has changed since our last conversation in 2020—Saie has now grown into a $100M+ brand and a major player in clean beauty. Laney shares the key inflection points on the road to scaling, the hero products that propelled the brand (like Glowy Supergel and Dew Blush), and her top advice for building both product and community. She gets candid about what she didn't realize was required to scale, her fundraising journey from zero experience, and when it's time to hire a president. Laney also opens up about balancing motherhood with entrepreneurship, the importance of fast decision-making, and what makes a job applicant stand out at Saie. Whether you're a founder, future beauty exec, or just looking for the ultimate sun-kissed look—this episode is packed with insight and inspiration. Ever wonder why you're still exhausted—even after a full night's sleep? Or why brain fog and hormone imbalance seem to linger no matter how “healthy” your habits feel? If alcohol is still in the picture, even just a little, that could be a missing link. In this episode, I talk with intuitive drinking coach Colleen Freeland about alcohol's hidden role in disrupting your sleep, spiking cortisol, and draining your energy—especially for women navigating perimenopause, chronic stress, or stubborn fatigue. We're breaking down the science and psychology behind how alcohol affects your metabolism, hormone balance, and nervous system, even if you're not a heavy drinker. Whether you're someone who winds down with wine or drinks socially without thinking twice, this conversation will shift how you see alcohol—and give you tools to reconnect with how you actually want to feel. What You'll Hear Inside This Episode: How alcohol secretly spikes cortisol and leaves your nervous system stuck in stress mode The overlooked way drinking impacts your progesterone levels and sabotages deep sleep Why "just one drink" can still disrupt blood sugar, digestion, and next-day energy The simple mindset shift that helps you reduce drinking—without guilt or restriction Alcohol isn't just a lifestyle choice—it's a hormonal disruptor. From poor sleep to midday crashes, alcohol quietly rewires your body's stress and recovery systems. If you're navigating perimenopause, low energy, or weight loss resistance, this episode unpacks why cutting back might be the most impactful change you can make—and how to do it intuitively. You'll learn why alcohol affects your gut health, sleep cycles, cortisol rhythms, and even contributes to hormonal imbalance like estrogen dominance or adrenal fatigue. It's not about willpower—it's about understanding the biology and building habits that support your best energy. We're not here to ban alcohol. We're here to help you think critically about it. When you shift your intention, you get your energy, sleep, and clarity back—without feeling like you're giving anything up. If you're tired of waking up groggy, feeling inflamed, or wondering why your stress feels worse after a night out, this one's for you. Hi wonderful humans.I took some time off podcasting this year (tbh, work was very busy, and I had lots of planning and to-dos, so creating content fell off). Full Plate: Ditch diet culture, respect your body, and set boundaries.
“I want people to know that their bodies are not problems to be fixed, or problems to be solved. I want us to examine how do we look at ourselves — especially BIPOC folks, fat folks, and folks with chronic illnesses. What if we didn't have to fix anything? What if our bodies aren't broken? What if it's society and not us?”— Jessica Wilson, RD on Full Plate PodcastEvery once in a while, a conversation cuts through the noise — and makes space for something deeper to settle in.This week on Full Plate, we're revisiting a powerful episode from two and a half years ago (how?!) with Jessica Wilson — a clinical dietitian, author, and speaker whose work continues to shape this field in profound ways.Jessica's book, It's Always Been Ours: Rewriting the Story of Black Women's Bodies, had just been released when we first spoke. And even now, listening back, I feel the same reverence and electricity in her words — and an even deeper appreciation for how much they've reshaped my own thinking. In this conversation, we explore:* How anti-fatness is rooted in anti-Blackness* Why thinness and “wellness” ideals are intentionally weaponized* How Jessica found HAES and anti-diet work, and the limitations that frustrate her* Jessica's experience of medical weight stigma as a child* How the BIPOC experience of diet culture diverges from that of white folks* What it really means to center lived experience and social justice in conversations about health* The myths that persist when it comes to nutrition and our wellbeing* Whether the Mediterranean diet is really all that "healthy"* The complex feelings we both hold about intuitive eating and how it can miss the mark for marginalized folksThere's so much in here. So much that feels like exactly what we need right now — especially in the face of rising public health rhetoric (ahem, “Make America Healthy Again”) that continues to blame individuals instead of challenging systems.Jessica brings her full self: truth-telling, deeply embodied, relentlessly clear. She's not here to make this comfortable — she's here to make it honest. And just a heads up that this episode was recorded before the current wave of GLP-1 conversations, RFK Jr. headlines, and other recent chaos in the wellness world. But trust me, what she shares here still lays the groundwork for understanding it all.Whether this is your first time hearing it, or a second listen — I think you'll walk away changed.P.S. Summer can feel like one long permission slip to indulge—looser routines, longer days, more social events, and vacation vibes that whisper “just this once.” In this episode, Molly unpacks why summer can be a particularly slippery slope for anyone working to change their drinking habits—and what you can do to stay mindful without sacrificing fun.Drawing from her own experience and behavioral science, Molly explores how deeply context-based cues shape our drinking habits and why “vacation mode” doesn't have to mean mindless drinking. You'll learn how to navigate barbecues, weddings, family reunions, and lazy summer nights with clarity and confidence. In this episode, you'll discover:Why summer rhythms can reignite old habit loopsThe difference between vacation mode and conscious modeHow context—not just craving—drives drinking desireWhy a “Doable Drink Plan” works (and how to create one that actually fits your life)The hidden cost of unplanned drinking days—even when you're doing alcohol-free days elsewhereMolly's message is clear: Summer isn't a break from your values. It's the season where you get to practice alignment."Until next time, stay curious, choose peace, and make a plan that supports the future you're creating.Low risk drinking guidelines from the NIAAA:Healthy men under 65:No more than 4 drinks in one day and no more than 14 drinks per week.Healthy women (all ages) and healthy men 65 and older:No more than 3 drinks in one day and no more than 7 drinks per week. One drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor. “I grew up with puppetry and voices and weird little characters. I never really let that go — I just found ways to turn it into a life.” - Nate Begle In this episode, we're joined by Nate - He's a voice actor and puppeteer with over two decades of experience in storytelling across stage, screen, and sound. His career has spanned live theme park shows, national commercials, animation, and narration work for over 30 audiobooks. Nate has collaborated with major creative institutions, including James Patterson, The Jim Henson Company, Walt Disney Entertainment, and Sesame Street. Deeply rooted in performance, character work, and voice, Nate brings a grounded and authentic presence to everything he creates. He allows the characters, not the performer, to take center stage.Nate and I nestle in for a tender, playful, and witty conversation about a life built around performance. We talk discovering creative purpose early, navigating years of invisible work, and learning how to keep showing up for the craft even when no one is watching. We talk about his roots in Midwest community theater, how Fraggle Rock cracked open a lifelong fascination with puppetry, and the reality of building a career from bits and odd jobs to full-time creative expression. Along the way, we dive into themes like staying grounded while performing, the therapeutic power of play, self-belief in the face of doubt, and the surprising joy of working just off-camera.From humor and nostalgia to identity and intention, this conversation brings small insights that build into something honest, warm, and very real.More notable quotes from the episode:- “A lot of people think voiceover is just ‘talking,' but it's not. It's acting. It's truth-telling. In this episode, I'm speaking with Steven Sashen, who founded minimalist shoe company Xero Shoes with his wife Lena Phoenix in 2009. His philosophy? Modern footwear is actively hurting you. In this discussion (which was so fun and informative thanks to Steven's lighthearted approach to his work), we explore what the shoe industry has been hiding about arch support, cushioning, and elevated heels, all while knowing these features actually increase injury rates. Steven's company exists because he wants to change people's lives, and after 16 years of challenging the footwear industry's biggest myths, he's revealing how traditional shoes weaken your feet, destabilize your balance, and even contribute to falls that kill older adults. Get ready to rethink everything you thought you knew about what to put on your feet. This conversation could literally save you from decades of unnecessary pain, injury, and disability.

Entrepreneurship is pressure, patience, and pain—and most people aren't built for it. Before becoming one of the world's top marketing experts, GaryVee worked at his family's liquor store until he was 34, growing the business from $4 million to $60 million in annual sales. He was playing the long game, even as he loaded up cases of Dom Pérignon in his friends' BMWs. Just nine years after founding VaynerMedia, he scaled it to over 800 employees, servicing clients like PepsiCo and GE. In this episode, GaryVee delivers a masterclass in day trading attention and social media marketing, sharing how to leverage interest graph algorithms in content strategy and modern advertising. In this episode, Hala and Gary will discuss: (00:00) Introduction (04:22) Why Most People Can't Be Entrepreneurs (10:51) Doing What You Love Without Burning Out (15:08) The Real Mental Health Cost of Entrepreneurship (21:01) How Gary Spots Digital Trends First (26:16) TikTokification and the Rise of Interest Graphs (35:14) The Power of Targeted Audience Cohorts (39:29) Mastering Platforms and Pop Culture for Virality (42:31) Using Strategic Organic Content to Win (47:50) Why Storytelling Is Everything in Marketing (52:00) Why Small Brands Can Now Beat Big Companies Gary Vaynerchuk, famously known as "GaryVee," is a serial entrepreneur, investor, and CEO of VaynerMedia, a leading advertising agency. These days, the health and wellness industry really isn't much better than it was years ago, especially when it comes to the chronically ill getting the help they need for healing. Some aspects have improved, but for the most part it's still the same old sea of confusion out there. Carb-free diets, milk cleanses, meat only diets, extreme water fasting, bone broth cleanses, intermittent fasting, eat-what-you-want diets, trendy supplements filled with natural flavors, or supplements that are just toxic in general...the list goes on and on. It's a wonder how the chronically ill can find their way through it all. And then there's the good ole Oxalate Theory that peaks its ugly head out every five years and torments the people who are already tormented by what ails them. There are a few reasons why oxalate fear is still here and it's the same reasons so many other fads and trends of health are still here: it's marketing, PR campaigns, shock and awe strategies based on fear, and to this day, no one really knows why people are really sick. Just say oxalates are the cause and the fear takes over; it's an easy sell, but it's not the reality. It's still a world of guessing games out there. The health movement keeps reigniting and spreading oxalates over and over again. An unfounded theory that holds people with chronic illness back and places them in a fear-based mentality with food...this is a nightmare. And as far as the influencers and health professionals that keep talking up and spreading oxalate fear, let's just say it's truly sad in so many ways. The truth is almost every food has oxalates in it, including animal protein. The people screaming their heads off about oxalates are picking on a small list of fruits and veggies, and spinach takes the biggest hit. Meanwhile, spinach is a powerful healing leafy green for the chronically ill. In this episode… Discover why oxalate fear is a recycled health trend trap that diverts chronically ill people from effective healing paths. Learn how testing for oxalates is unreliable and lacks accuracy. Find out why the fear of oxalate-rich foods is unnecessary and harmful, and why foods like spinach, celery, and potatoes are demonized. Learn how kidney stones are not caused by oxalates and why that's a flawed theory. Discover the truth about viral infections and how they are the real cause of many chronic illnesses, not oxalates. Find out why the oxalate theory is recycled misinformation and how it resurfaces periodically, misleading new generations of health seekers. Learn how mainstream and alternative health practitioners can unintentionally spread misleading oxalate fears. Even well-meaning doctors and health coaches may unknowingly promote harmful ideas due to lack of experience with chronic illness. Discover how Medical Medium tools (like celery juice and zinc) are real solutions and effective treatments for chronic conditions, as opposed to avoiding oxalates. All this and more, tune in and don't miss out on this important episode. You can revisit this episode anytime you need it. For more information visit www.medicalmedium.com

What if the most toxic thing in your home isn't a chemical—but a mindset? Clean living advocate and first-time author Lindsay Dahl returns to unpack the nuanced middle ground of wellness, environmental health, and personal agency. Together, we explore the emotional toll of trying to “do it all right,” the dangers of black-and-white thinking in the age of social media, and why real change takes both individual action and systemic accountability. We talk spatulas and seed oils, fast fashion and flame retardants, fear and freedom—and why being a pragmatist in today's digital landscape is both radical and necessary. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by wellness culture or simply want to think more critically about what's in your home and how it gets there, this conversation offers clarity, compassion, and a call to thoughtful action. 0:00 | Framing the Problem with Balance 2:20 | Education, Policy, and the Role of Media 5:40 | Health vs. Science: A Cultural Disconnect 8:06 | Control, Consumerism, and Systemic Change 11:25 | Fast Fashion as a Microcosm 14:12 | Inside “Cleaning House”: Book Preview 18:41 | The Cost of Speaking Up 23:38 | Reclaiming Community and Dialogue 26:25 | Closing and Call to Action Find Lindsay: lindsaydahl.com instagram.com/lindsay_dahl linkedin.com/in/lindsay-dahl-3617076 Pre-order Lindsay's book "Cleaning House: The Fight to Rid Our Homes of Toxic Chemicals" almost anywhere books are sold, releases 8/5/25 Find Stacy: realeverything.com instagram.com/realstacytoth missionmakersart.com Learn more about your ad choices.
