How did The Female orphan asylum or as most people know it The Smithsonia, get its name?A small congregation of Presbyterian ladies found their calling and purpose with encouragement from the Reverend Samuel Blaine Wilson. These ladies accomplished so much in a time period where women had very limited rights. They raised the funds to build and support the school.The ladies had the building designed with the intentions of providing education and skills to the the girls. And... of course we will show how all roads lead back to George Washington here in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
