REDink is a Podcast by #writers for the #WritingCommunity. We talk process, pitfalls, and dream jobs in the industry.
This week, Lydia and Sandy have prepared a special #Spooktober edition of the podcast. We are going to take some time and think about villains, baddies, dubious characters, and every other type of personality you could use in your story to create a multi-layered narrative. After all… not every bad guy is truly just a bad guy… or are they? This week, Lydia and I will take you through the process of breaking down your work into the bare building blocks of the narration. We slim it down even further than a synopsis, and we'll go even beyond that: at the length of a twitter pitch. This week, we are looking at the tools a writer must arm himself with if he wishes to conquer the process of writing that dreaded first draft, first and final edits, cover design, promotional work, and everything else that has become an integrated part of the publishing industry over the course of a couple of years. We'll give you tips on time management, how to work with social media, marketing and the famous Writer's Kit as we discussed in our previous Industry Insights. This week, we are judging books by their covers, and although this expression is used to prevent people from misjudging others, in the publishing industry a cover often tells you a lot about the book itself. There are simple covers, extravagant covers, artwork covers, automatically generated covers… There are so many options nowadays, but how do you find a cover that fits your project? And how do you decide if the quality is right if you hire someone to make a cover for you? In today's episode, Lydia and I will shine some light on the subject and we'll give you some tips and tricks to get the cover design for your book JUST right. Crutches, also known as crutch words or filler words, are very common in the writing world. They distract us, they make our work appear messy and around the point, and above all: we need to learn how to drop them. This episode, we'll spend some time giving you tips and tricks on how to recognize your own crutch words, and what you could do to easily edit them out of your drafts. Despite the title suggesting that on this week's episode we are either sending something into space or we have some trouble with 007 crashing our party, today is all about Mental Health. To be specific, we are talking about the dreaded Imposter Syndrome, a notorious crusher of writing spirits and destroyer of motivation. Today, the REDink Writers will talk about what Imposter Syndrome is, we'll dive into the psychology behind it and we'll give you some tips on how to deal with it. Don't forget to subscribe! This week's episode is all about the greatest discussion that has ever made its way through the Writing Community. We're not talking about whether you write by hand or type your stories. It also has nothing to do with self- or traditional publishing… Today is all about the difference between Pantsing and Plotting your work, the pros and cons of each, and how to find out which fits your preferences best. Welcome back! In this episode, we will shine some light on how we can push ourselves into writing without having it become a chore or self-flagellation. It is in moments where the world keeps knocking at our doors, Twitter demands our attention, and Instagram really, and I do mean REALLY needs to have that picture posted, it can sometimes be extremely frustrating to do what must be done, while you JUST WANT TO WRITE.
Although this episode's title refers to the process of slowly erasing your work while absorbed into Self Editing, we don't want you to worry: we are not going to explain any actual killing methods. Well, nothing that isn't legal anyway... ;-)
In this episode we talk about the necessity of good Critique Partners and how to find them, we'll share a glimpse behind the scenes of a literary agent in our Intern Insights along with another line-up of questions and subjects that are trending within the Writing Community.
Today is all about who we are and what we do, and we will spend some time answering the questions that followed our Twitter poll earlier this week. This means we will be talking about how to write that dreaded synopsis, and the do's and don't's of a query letter.
