Does music have the power to heal? Kevin O’Neil is a pretty singular guy. in 2015, he was diagnosed with a form of sarcoma. Now, I know we say that sarcoma is a lesser-known cancer, but Kevin had a form that affects only about 15 people globally. Kevin had a massive malignant tumour on the wall of the right side of his chest removed. The surgery was no joke. His right rib cage and a large part of his right shoulder blade had to be removed and then his chest rebuilt. He’s in massive pain and takes a cocktail of drugs to keep going. Why on earth is he organising a progressive music festival? In Dunfermline? In March? In the rain? And even though he builds it, will people come? sarcoma.org.uk oneoffifteen.com Prog In The Park 2.0 proginthepark.com maggies.org Alan Reed and the Daughters of Expediency: reddwarfrecordings.co.uk/ Altres: altres.co.uk Stillmarillion: stillmarillion.uk
A short 8-minute relaxation recording from psychotherapist and trainer Jo Ham, who has worked alongside and supported Sarcoma UK's staff for almost ten years. We join her on a walk with her dog through woods, encountering the sounds of animals and nature along the way, as Jo talks you through how to slow down, calm the mind and reset internally. Please enjoy and share but do not listen whilst driving or when operating machinery of any kind.
Looking after your mental wellbeing is so important, especially at a time where the coronavirus pandemic is a major cause of worry and stress, regardless of whether you are a cancer patient or not. We reached out to therapist and counsellor Jo Ham, who has been working with Sarcoma UK for almost a decade, to record a very special mindfulness and relaxation podcast to help in these unsettling times. We join her as she walks through some woods on the edges of London, so keep an ear out for the birds, sounds of nature and the stream. Please stop, enjoy and share. Note: don't listen to this whilst driving or operating machinery.
We’re joining Emily Travis for a day of chemotherapy for sarcoma cancer. This is Day 8 of her treatment cycle - supposedly the easy day as she puts it - but things are not off to a great start. Despite having been given a terminal diagnosis on multiple occasions, Emily Travis keeps going. She's in London to get pumped full of drugs to keep her cancer at bay and she shares the whole experience. Not easy listening by any means, but important listening as we hear in her own words how cancer came into her life and how she just kept going. sarcoma.org.uk/TheComebackKid
