In this very socially isolated episode of tech matters, we talk about our little corner of the world and how we are adapting to socially isolating, and using technology to stay connected for work and play. We talk about a few candidates for tech fail of the week - both from government, and also some things we think they got right with the coronavirus apps they've been releasing to keep everyone informed.
In tonight's episode, we do our first isolation podcast via skype, not because we have to yet, but because we thought we should have a go before we had to do it this way anyway. We talk about that viral craze sweeping the globe - covid-19, and how it's realigning the way some people work (those lucky enough to be able to) from home, and how it'd be so much better if we were all on fibre optic internet. Craig tells us about a fantastic app that's free at the moment for frustrated ballerz (Basketball that is) in isolation, and we drop a quick dose of quick tech news. Stay safe everyone, wash those hands and space out a bit more, you're standing too close.
In episode 9 of Tech matters, Greg and Craig talk about how Mozilla is preemptively starting to think of user privacy with their Firefox browser, and how 8K is basically a waste of money as most people can't tell the difference from 4k screens. Coronavirus fever (pun intended) is sweeping the world, with online companies having to ban the sale of products claiming to help prevent it, and Consumer level drones are finally starting to get smart enough to stop their operators crashing them into stuff.
In this episode, we talk about the coronavirus (because everyone is talking about it), this week's tip from Greg is how to see which external sites are accessing your facebook data, and Craig talks about some new solid state battery technology. Fails this week are from companies selling and leaking data, and we introduce a new segment - Quick Fire News.
In the seventh episode of the Tech Matters podcast, Craig and Greg talk about the end of the road for Windows 7, and the gadgets on display this week at CES in Las Vegas - some cool, some not so cool. Craig talks about tech in sport after visiting the Brisbane Bullets with some of his basketball students, and Greg gives his take on some of the new fake meat products hitting the shelves in our supermarkets and the menus at fast food outlets. They also talk about the new standard of bluetooth that's on the way to make everyone's headphones and ear buds run longer and work better.
In out 6th episode, we talk about the internet news cycle while our country is on fire, Our mutual love of paying less for tech and all the great options out there for saving a few dollars, and our fail of the week (possibly the year) is from the makers of the segway.
In our 5th episode, we talk about some of the tech that changed our lives in the last decade and a few things that may become big in the 20's. This week's "just the tip" is about the introvert's social media network of choice - Reddit, and we talk about other social media - the good bits and the bad bits. Get a drink so you can stay well hydrated, grab some snacks and strap in - it's a long one at 1 hr and 30 minutes!
In episode 4 of Tech matters, we get into just how much a devout Apple user would be willing to pay for a computer - whether you need the hardware or it's just bragging rights. We introduce a new segment - "Just the Tip", talk about trending google searches for the year, and our "tech fail of the week" which one of us committed - a timely reminder to everyone, as it's a fail we all do and a time bomb waiting to take everyone out.
In this week's episode of Tech matters, Craig and Greg talk about their experiences one week on from both getting a Google Nest Home Hub, we talk spam, and Craig gets himself shadow-banned for excessive twittering.
In today's episode of the Tech Matters podcast, we talk about Google Photos and how it can help back up and organise your photos, regardless of the device you are using. We also delve into online and phone scams, and how you can recognise them from legitimate calls or messages. We also talk about Black Friday - where did it come from and are there good deals to be had out there?
Today's tech matters - we introduce ourselves as we launch our very first episode. We cover the confusing world of Australia's internet landscape explaining the National Broadband Network (NBN) cabled connection types FTTN, FTTP and FTTC and some other nerdy jargon that goes with it. We explain the difference between wireless broadband (or internet) and wi-fi and our ill informed understanding of the roll-out of 5G. For gamers and streamers we dive into explaining bandwidth and ping, We also introduce our first rendition of "App of the week" where we explore Audlist, a newly launched audio only social media app. We also have a bit of a laugh at our "tech fail of the week", Elon Musk's new launch of the Tesla Truck.
