We start Rapid Fire with thoughts on former Notre Dame running back Logan Diggs' announcement that he has transferred to LSU. Other topics include: * Does having Marcus Freeman as head coach increase the value for Notre Dame in its next apparel deal.  * Notre Dame is currently favored by 21.5 in its season opener vs Navy, an 8.5 point underdog vs Ohio State and a 1-point favorite vs USC this season. If we were going to make a three-leg parlay on those three props how would we bet? * Thoughts on Peacock getting the rights to exclusively stream an NFL playoff game in prime time this season. * The Jets are going to host the Dolphins in the NFL's first Black Friday game the day after Thanksgiving this season and they are interested in hosting that game every year. Do we Buy or Sell a permanent host for that game? * Dan Patrick says Dan Campbell is the most recognizable member of the Detroit Lions. Which other teams is the head coach the first person who comes to mind when you think about them? * The Phoenix Suns fired head coach and Notre Dame alum Monty Williams two years after taking the Suns to the NBA Finals. Philadelphia also just fired Doc Rivers and the Bucks had already canned Mike Budenholzer. Did any of those guys deserve to get the boot? * Thoughts on Joel Embiid's postgame comments after Philadelphia's game seven playoff loss to the Celtics. Today I'm chatting with Sylvie Roy the founder of Eclair Lips. Sylvie is sharing the story of how she used a templated event that she pulled from the “Get Sales Now” unit inside of the Inner Circle Classroom. Last month Sylvie used the “Mystery Box” event (formerly called “ninja event). Her goal was to make some sales and get rid of some labels for products that she had discontinued. You'll love hearing how Sylvie used this event and ultimately had her highest sales day ever. In fact, her revenue for this event was more than last year's entire Black Friday weekend revenue. It's a great story in itself, but the real story is about transformation. When you hear what's happened in Sylvie's business since January 2020, you'll get clarity  about managing your expectations for today's results while being able to see what's possible for you in the future. The real lesson is in understanding your sales potential if you stay consistent and focused on a few marketing activities instead of jumping from “idea” to “idea”.   When you listen, you'll learn: The reason that building an audience is the fastest way to scale Proof that Marketing is more important than product and pricing An example of how you can get sales fast, even if you don't know where to start How to make  “scaling” your sales possible. Boomer said this all started with the injury to Edwin Diaz at the World Baseball Classic. Where will the Mets be at the trade deadline and will they be buyers or sellers? Right now they are looking like sellers. It's not even where the Mets are in the standings. It's who they're losing to which is discouraging. This is a sign the Knicks are going to lose tonight. Buck Showalter talked about injuries and said everybody has them and you have to deal with it. Gio wonders if Francisco Lindor cares how many games the Mets win considering how much money he's being paid. Max Scherzer talked about his neck spasms. Gio called him a ‘money grab guy'. The Yankees beat the A's 10-5. Aaron Judge returned and drove in a run. Jerry went around the NBA from last night's playoff games. On Sundays, we post shows from Financial Life Planning with financial advisor Mike Morton and man-in-need-of-advice Matt Robison. This week: we have interest rates now, so what does that mean, in a nutshell, for our daily lives. And is there anything we need to, you know, DO about it? The answer is: YES! We cover: Mortgage Rates - How the increase affects your payments (not in a good way!) Home Equity / Construction Loans - You might want to think twice about borrowing for renovation projects and why I paid off my HELOC. Savings - You will finally earn some interest on your cash CD's - Some brokerage products are offering 3%-4% interest, something we haven't seen in almost 20 years Stocks - It's like Black Friday: with the 20% market decline now is a (better) time to buy stocks.  Stay invested for the long run.

This week we talk about what happens after the fight for independence is won. As had happened countless times before in history, precious freedoms gained in bloody struggles can be lost easily in the subsequent peace, not to the old adversary, but to new, homegrown usurpers. That is at least one way of telling the story, the other being, that every major political upheaval is followed by a period of consolidation that embeds the gains made and truncates the excesses that appeared during the revolutionary period.Something like that happened following the Saxon wars when Lothar of Supplinburg, a hitherto minor count from Westphalia is raised to ducal authority in 1106. Before he took the reins of the duchy, Saxony had turned into a free for all. Whenever a rich count or margrave fell victim to the various dangers a civil war generated, his cousins and peers would race to first seize his wife or daughter and then use their claim to grasp as much of his property as possible. A process not much more dignified than the opening of the doors on a Black Friday pre-pandemic.Lothar established a central authority for the duchy that calms things down considerably. It is during this time that four of the five great princely dynasties in the North get established, the Welf, the Wettins, the Ascanier and the counts of Holstein. The rise of these four was however not a given. There were others, like the counts of Stade and Wiprecht of Groitzsch whose burning ambitions came to nought as they stumbled in the race between reproduction and their near inevitable violent death. The music for the show is Flute Sonata in E-flat major, H.545 by Carl Phillip Emmanuel Bach (or some claim it as BWV 1031 Johann Sebastian Bach) performed and arranged by Michel Rondeau under Common Creative Licence 3.0.As always:Homepage with maps, photos, transcripts and blog: www.historyofthegermans.comFacebook: @HOTGPod Twitter: @germanshistoryInstagram: history_of_the_germansReddit: u/historyofthegermansPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/Historyofthegermans

Not every relationship can withstand the struggle of mental illness. Countless marriages have ended. With that comes a lot of lonely, struggling people. When David & Rita McCormick found each other at their local church, what they found was looking through the lens of a spouse.  Hey, what's up everyone?! It's time for episode two hundred two of Above Ground Podcast.  This week we have a Nippertown guest, author David McCormick and his muse and spouse, Rita.  During the Covid -19 Pandemic we found the biggest spotlight highlighting our worlds struggles with mental health. We developed a rate of anxiety quicker than a 1990s Black Friday sale. We will feel the effects of this for generations to come. Which makes it even more important to stomp out the stigmas of mental illness. Rita, who manages a mental illness, is just like everyone else. She manages her life like anyone managing  diabetes, heart disease, or at times cancer.  David, her husband, knows Rita's cues, inflections and her tells. They laid a foundation of intimacy that wins like a royal flush at the #worldseriesofpoker.  David discovered in their original church that there was a stigma that he wasn't expecting, but was ready to confront, surrounding the discussion of mental illness.  The couple will take us on their journey from hurt  and alone to strongest together. David & Rita McCormick share what's on their bucket list and share some knowledge of Rita's tools that she uses to keep her mountain high happy days lasting longer.  A huge thanks to them for appearing on the pod.  You can find Through the Lens of a Spouse and it's follow up on Amazon. You can find their two Facebook groups Silently Suffering Ministries and the Through the Lens of a Spouse book group. Check them out and share that you heard it on Above Ground Podcast.  This Saturday we will be tabling at Noteworthy Resources Grand Opening of their new indoor skate park, Endure Skatepark. As you browse a popular social media site or search the internet, you're likely to come across a tempting ad selling something at an incredible price. You get excited and click the link because you don't want to miss out on this rare opportunity.   Before you do anything, stop and investigate a bit more because you might be falling for a shopping scam.  Links:  Learn more tips on how to spot fake shopping sites Report a suspicious site with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Report a suspicious site with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Learn more about Triangle Better Checking with identity protection Follow our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages! Learn more about Triangle Credit Union Transcript:  Welcome to Money Tip Tuesday from the Making Money Personal podcast.  80% of Americans shop online. That comes to a count of over 263 million people.   Online shopping is fun and convenient, plus you can find almost anything you want. Unfortunately, like other things associated with technology and the Internet, online shopping can also be a way for fraudsters and thieves to steal your personal information and money.   If you're an avid online shopper, it's important that you stay informed of these shopping scams, so you don't fall for these fake stores trying to rob you.   A recent report from Experian has stated that online shopping fraud is rising. This is partly due to the growing volume of internet users and online shopping platforms we are accustomed to browsing on a daily basis.   Online shopping scams tend to be more common around busy online shopping days like Prime Day and Black Friday but are still very real threats that can pop up any time of year.   Scammers set up websites to deceive you into purchasing something from them. You may end up getting a shoddy product or you may not get anything at all.     How do these scams work?   They set up a storefront or website that looks very convincing and offers products that you might recognize from other sites or brands. They're even known to copy professional photos and graphics to try to make the website appear as legitimate as possible.   These scammers then post an ad with a very appealing offer to direct you to the website. For example, it's not uncommon for a scam to offer a luxury item at a ridiculously low price.   You may have come across some of these ads on social media or in browsers. They're designed to get you to act quickly and purchase the item before you even realize the ad led to a dishonest site.   Luckily, if you're aware of the ways to recognize these scams, you can easily keep yourself from falling for them. Here are a few tips on spotting a fake shopping site.  If you see a bad or mismatched domain name. If the domain is slightly different, it should be suspicious. Check the URL for added words or misspelled names. If the name should be Namebrand.com but instead reads like NamesBrand.com or NameBrandOnline.com then it's most likely a lookalike site trying to trick you.   If there's no S in HTTPs in the URL address string. Look at the web address in the top of your browser for the letters HTTPS. The S stands for secure and it means the site is encrypted. You should also see the little padlock icon at the front of the URL. If you don't see an S then the site isn't encrypted, and you shouldn't give them any of your information.  If there's no return policy. Look around the product information or description for the company's return policy. If there isn't one at all, on a site that looks like it should have one, that's a big red flag.  If you get pushy popups asking for your financial information. Some sites set up annoying pop ups that ask you for your payment information while you browse. This is a serious red flag. Don't give them your information and leave the site right away.   If you see luxury items for unbelievably low prices. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.   No credit card payment option. If the site requests immediate payment, wire transfers or other forms of payment without accepting credit cards then it's probably not legitimate.  Even with all the awareness and precautions we can take, sometimes scammers are so convincing we fall for them anyway. If you think you fell for a scam you can report the malicious site with the Federal Trade Commission. If you unfortunately used a credit or debit card on the scam site, contact your financial institution immediately. And finally, contact the BBB to report the fake business and help protect others from falling for the same trick.   One last note, make sure you have identity theft protection. If you have a Triangle Better Checking account, you have identity theft protection and you have access to other tools that can help protect your identity from the many ways thieves try to get a hold of it. Learn more at trianglecu.org or check the link in the show notes.   If there are any other tips or topics, you'd like us to cover, let us know at tcupodcast@trianglecu.org.  Like and follow our Making Money Personal FB and IG page and look for our sponsor, Triangle Credit Union on social media to share your thoughts.   Thanks for listening to today's Money Tip Tuesday and be sure to check out our other tips and episodes on the Making Money Personal podcast.   Have a great day!
