Gianluca Miscione is something of a philosopher of currencies. Working in the The Centre for Innovation, Technology & Organisation at University College Dublin, his work considers how currencies are like infrastructures — like roads. In this in-depth interview, we cover topics around the nature of data, of currencies and where control does sit and should sit in the future. He is involved with http://codingvalue.org/, a global research hub based in the College of Business, UCD which researches blockchain globally. -- This is from The Baseline Podcast, hosted by Dan Frost (@danfrost) — A consulting CTO to startups and SMEs with work in R&D in edtech. I try to make sense of tech and the world at thebaseline.co and in my podcast. Subscribe on Soundcloud, iTunes or Spotify. Or browse other podcast episodes.

Superforecasting is the ability to think about the future with unusual accuracy by analysing the problem and counteracting our innate biases. In this interview, I talk to Nick Hare who is a superforecaster. Nick explains how the future can be understood by breaking it down into a series of quantifiable "knows". We also dig into his background in government intelligence and his work teaching other firms to do this, we discuss how people normally predict and how the work of The Good Judgement project is training more people to predict accurately. The podcast for creators, experimenters, polymaths and innovators who are hungry for new ideas. This is a chance to learn about innovation, technologies, mental models and ways of thinking from many other fields. How do you create innovative yet risky products? Is a new tech ready for your industry, and what is it like to work with? What does it mean to use machine learning and how do you measure it? How does all this fit together with the history of tech and how do we manage predictions about what will and won’t work? Implementing tech can be really, really hard. The baseline podcast gives you the mental tools and frameworks to answer these questions through deep dive, long form interviews with experts, engineers and creators in tech, business and beyond. Guests include perhaps the first ever cyber counter-hacker, founders of digital-native political parties and philosophers how currencies are evolving. I dig deep and find people with a new and deeply practical perspective on what’s happening, from academics, engineers, innovators, writers and tinkerers. Full show notes, contributor links, book references and more at https://thebaseline.co/podcast Presented by Dan Frost, a technologist, writer and experimenter whose day job is to turn new technology into product ideas. Dan’s research spans from machine learning, gaming, cryptocurrencies, cloud scale systems and the soft skills of business, disruption, mental fitness, security and more.
