Career Sequel - The Return to Work Podcast with Lee Koles Ph.D.
What if the very thing you've been apologizing for is actually your greatest advantage?Maybe you've changed industries. Switched directions. Collected experiences that don't seem to fit neatly together on a resume. While specialists often have a clear roadmap, many of us have careers that look more like a winding trail with unexpected turns along the way.In this episode of The Potentialist Podcast, I sit down with coach, leadership consultant and author Siobhán O'Riordan to explore why nonlinear career paths may be exactly what today's world needs. Drawing from her book, Reframe: How Generalists Thrive in a Changing World, Siobhán makes the case that generalists aren't scattered or unfocused. They're often the people connecting ideas, solving complex problems and helping organizations navigate change. In our conversation, you'll discover:• Why generalists make up nearly half the workforce, yet often feel invisible• How "looking around the corner" helps leaders spot opportunities others miss• How to tell your career story with confidence, even if your path doesn't look linear• What generalists need from managers, mentors and workplaces to do their best workIf you've ever wondered how to explain your twists, turns, pivots or unexpected detours, this conversation will help you see them through a completely different lens.Your career path may not be messy after all. It might just be evidence that you're built to connect dots others can't see.
In this episode, Al and Jenny meet Justin Gill. Justin became a follower of Jesus as a young man in his native Pakistan from where he immigrated to the UK. Immersed in post-industrial English communities for twenty years, he became well acquainted with the complex realities of race, poverty, religion, and questions of belonging. This conversation explores the turbulent relationship between Christianity, Islam and secularisation in a time of cultural and political instability. Justin senses that God has brought him, as a Christian, into Muslim contexts, and to be among the indigenous English working class. His love for peoples and place is evident in his deep understanding of these different communities' reactions to deindustrialisation, and how their responses to current tensions express their distinct histories and worldviews. Tying all this together is his deep conviction of Christ as Redeemer and His presence in hard, conflicted places.Justin Gill works with the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC), advising on cross-cultural mission in a network that links more than 50,000 Christians across the UK. Justin speaks here in a personal capacity. Born and raised in North Pakistan, he was an advisor on minority affairs to a political party and led relief operations following the 2005 earthquake. Moving to the UK in 2006, he gained an MSc in Development and Project Planning at Bradford University and lived in North Yorkshire. He continues to support evangelical church networks in Pakistan. He now lives in Leicestershire and attends Knighton Free Church. For Justin Gillhttps://fiec.org.uk/people/justin-gillhttps://fiec.org.uk/who-we-are/staffhttps://uk.linkedin.com/in/justin-gill-fiechttps://x.com/Justin4Gillhttps://fiec.org.uk/resources/moving-towards-intercultural-churchhttps://fiec.org.uk/resources/should-every-church-be-multi-racialFor Alan J Roxburgh:http://alanroxburgh.com/aboutFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/alan.roxburgh.127/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thecommonsnetworkBooks:Forming Communities of Hope in the Great Unravelling: Leadership in a Changing World (with Roy Searle)Joining God in the Great UnravellingLeadership, God's Agency and DisruptionsJoining God, Remaking Church, Changing the World: The New Shape of the Church in Our TimeFor Jenny Sinclair:Substack: https://t4cg.substack.com/s/from-jenny-sinclairWebsite: https://togetherforthecommongood.co.uk/from-jenny-sinclairLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-sinclair-0589783b/Twitter: https://twitter.com/T4CGFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TogetherForTheCommonGoodUKInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/t4cg_insta/ Get full access to Leaving Egypt at leavingegyptpodcast.substack.com/subscribe

For billions of people around the globe, the FIFA World Cup is the ultimate sporting event. But what does the tournament reveal about the world beyond the pitch? This week, we welcome Financial Times journalist and New York Times bestselling author Simon Kuper to discuss his latest book, "World Cup Fever: A Soccer Journey in Nine Tournaments." Drawing on more than three decades of firsthand reporting from World Cups spanning Italy 1990 to Qatar 2022, Kuper reflects on how football's greatest spectacle has evolved — and what that evolution says about politics, culture, globalization, nationalism, media, money, and power. Far more than memorable matches and legendary players, we explore the World Cup as a unique lens through which to view modern history itself. Kuper recounts his experiences covering tournaments staged amid political upheaval, examines FIFA's transformation from a relatively modest governing body into a global commercial powerhouse, and reflects on the growing tensions between football's grassroots appeal and the immense corporate and geopolitical forces that now surround the game. Along the way, we discuss how World Cups have served as stages for dictators and democracies alike, why the tournament remains one of the few truly shared global cultural experiences, and whether the event has become more accessible — or more distant — from the ordinary fans whose passion fuels it. + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable The "Good Seats" Store: http://tee.pub/lic/RdiDZzQeHSY BUY THE BOOK: "World Cup Fever: A Soccer Journey in Nine Tournaments": https://amzn.to/4dV2SKN SPONSOR THANKS: Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS): https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 FIND AND FOLLOW: Linktree: https://linktr.ee/GoodSeatsStillAvailable Web: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/good-seats-still-available/

For the last 30 years, private equity has been an increasingly popular destination for both institutional and HNW capital. As its reach has extended across multiple industries and geographies, the questions over where value is actually created have been increasing. Riccardo Basile, a former engineer, then management consultant, and for the last decade with Permira, deconstructs what is mean by “value creation”. He explains the levers pulled and analysis used. Specifically, he addresses pricing, digital acceleration, organisational redesign, and commercial excellence in their portfolio companies, aimed at driving growth and performance. He discusses why companies partner with Permira, when managements might need to change, which industries are most fertile for their approach and their thinking around exits and uplifts, why, when, and how. Authoritarianism is gaining ground in democracies around the world—often with populist, nativist rhetoric. In the United States, this trend threatens to demolish democratic government. And shifts in American foreign policy are also uprooting the previous world order around the globe. William Kristol joins host Alex Lovit to discuss what's changed in the last few years in American politics, in international relations, and in his own beliefs. William Kristol is editor-at-large at The Bulwark and cohost of the podcast Conversations with Bill Kristol. He's also a senior fellow with the Charles F. Kettering Foundation. Katia Bolotin is a Torah educator, speaker, and author, based in Israel. Her thought-provoking articles and audio talks highlight the enduring relevance of Torah in our ever-changing world. Katia's focus on personal growth harmonizes with the Torah's wisdom of how to best cultivate and maintain that growth. Katia is also a pianist, songwriter, and composer of contemporary classical music. Her original musical compositions can be streamed at Katia Bolotin on SoundCloud. Katia released an insightful book called Timeless Torah Wisdom: Making It Relevant For Our Ever-Changing World that is the subject of this interview. Katia teaches us about the importance of spiritual wealth. While many of us chase monetary wealth, a perfect body, and relationships, Katia helps us understand that those things are only the MEANS to and END. The marriage, the flat stomach, the gorgeous house, and everything else that we want are not the end in itself. Katia shows us how to see beyond the superficial qualities of someone or something that we love and look beyond it to see that it was Hashem who created it for us. She gives us a great exercise to teach us how to see Hashem as the Source of everything, and how to internalize that realization. Katia discusses the importance of seeing every obstacle and challenge in our lives at a set up, and not as a set back. She teaches us to apply Torah wisdom to changing our perspective on any challenge, and thereby using Torah to help us OVERCOME our challenges. "When you change the way you see things, the things that you see change."In this poignant conversation, we learn how to go from being a victim to being a victor, just like Joseph did when he found himself thrown into a pit by his brothers. If he thought of himself as being left in a pit to die, he would have drowned in his victimhood. Instead, he looked at himself as being sent into the pit for a higher purpose, which later revealed itself when he became a leader in Egypt, and saved the people (including his own family) from famine. We are all put into this world to achieve our own unique purpose--NOBODY else can do it for us. We may look or dress the same, but our intentions are different; our life experiences are different, and because of that, the way we approach people and situations is different. It is that very difference that helps us carry out our mission.Throughout or conversation, Katia shared beautiful nuggets of knowledge on how to use ancient Torah wisdom to navigate the challenges we face in life today.Katia's Book: Timeless Torah Wisdom: Making It Relevant For An Ever-Changing World, can be purchased on Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/Making-Relevant-Timeless-Torah-wisdom/dp/B0FRSWS2B2/ref=sr_1_1?crid=P8LUA7J5YRT9&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.pLUw-JJXdgp3xgp_b94jM1HQZa-Ja40W1gMI2Dzrh5PSNiHuwjNeUWAMS-S7yR7poFdbcIrdax3Dw5usrzdhwvQeecJMS0_MdQPKMOsAGOzNH82GA9UaF8krLVJg9wsb4YTsjO6uahoDQw9DEC2s4dx2tQHenUkKe-ZabnISkUllnLHBB5IpJLCQN__m_DeEuyG-sNnkgZ_-9u8wFjzYOu30DlZXJm3O27CNiMMekJs.o3HzKgHQGThEiSOESCXHa15oXXy_Q7hYiJoq_FJkM5I&dib_tag=se&keywords=katia+bolotin&qid=1780415287&sprefix=katia+bol%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-1If you would like to rediscover who you are on a soul level and unlock a life of self-worth and authenticity, click the link to book a free discovery call with Vera Kessler:https://innerlifecoachingwithvera.com/Contact email: atrebbetzins@gmail.com
What makes a story feel truly mythic? Many writers assume mythic fiction comes from borrowing archetypes, retelling old myths, or layering symbolic imagery into a story. While there is immense value in studying mythology, fairy tales, folklore, and archetypal storytelling traditions, something important has been lost in many modern conversations about mythic fiction. The old myths aren't powerful merely because of their plot structure or symbolism. They are powerful because they emerged from their creator's living relationship with symbol, transformation, mystery, dream, and the deeper psyche. In this episode, I explore: • Why so much modern "mythic storytelling" can feel strangely hollow • The difference between inherited myth and living myth • Why writers often approach archetypes from the outside in • How mythic resonance actually emerges in story • Why mythic storytelling matters during times of cultural transformation • How writers can reconnect to the symbolic imagination itself What if the role of the writer is not simply to preserve mythology, but to participate in it? If you've ever wanted to write stories that feel more resonant, symbolic, emotionally alive, or spiritually meaningful, this episode explores the deeper source from which mythic fiction arises. 02:45 How Modern Writers Understand Mythic Fiction and Archetypal Storytelling 03:58 The Mythological and Folk Tale Lens for Mythic Fiction 04:32 The Anthropological & Psychological Lens for Mythic Fiction 05:10 Pop Culture & the Mythic Retelling 06:27 Studying Myth vs. Writing Mythic Fiction 09:03 Borrowing vs. Accessing Symbols 11:17 Inherited Myth vs. Living Myth 12:16 Mythic Fiction in Cultural Times of Transformation 13:43 Our Relationship to the Old Stories Grows Thin 14:55 Mythic Fiction Requires the Partnership of Intuition and Intellect 16:11 Mythic Fiction Reconnects Writers to the Deep Source of Story 18:38 The Need for New Myths in a Changing World 20:15 New Myths, Ancient Roots 21:15 Participating in Myth as Much as Preserving It 21:59 Reconnecting to Myth in Your Own Writing Process Read the transcript: https://helpingwritersbecomeauthors.com/how-to-write-mythic-fiction LINKS & RESOURCES Want More? This conversation connects deeply to my class Alchemizing Plot, Character, & Theme: https://kmweilandstore.com/b/plot-character-theme-class In this masterclass, I explore how plot, character, and theme act as one cohesive symbolic structure capable of creating stories with emotional resonance, narrative momentum, and deeper thematic meaning. We'll talk about: • Aligning inner and outer arcs • Creating stories that feel alive from the inside out • Integrating plot, character, and theme organically • Writing stories with greater depth and cohesion

Tim is a wild dreamer - in the very best sense - who describes his development in terms of a “re-enchantment with Christian faith”. Tim is on a rich, imaginative journey fostering ways of being church within creative experiments of local life – through postures, practices and relationships rather than programmes. Dedicated to flourishing neighbourhoods, he has become convinced of the need for stronger local economies, and now, to that end, he convenes collaborations across faith and secular lines. Tim sees the Christian imagination offering many gifts along that road, especially through local-scale partnerships that shift congregations to become relational communities in solidarity with their neighbours.Tim Soerens is Executive Director and co-founder of the Parish Collective, an ecumenical network that connects and resources Christians to be church within their local neighbourhoods, focusing on presence, place, and community renewal. Modern life is fraying us. But we can learn how to come back to ourselves. In this thoughtful and deeply relatable episode Kate welcomes back educator, social worker, author, and speaker Stephanie Malia Krauss to explore why so many parents, teachers, carers, and children feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and disconnected. Drawing from her book How We Thrive: Caring for Kids and Ourselves in a Changing World, Stephanie explains how chronic busyness, overstimulation, technology, anxiety, and modern pressures pull families away from regulation, connection, and truly human living. Together, Kate and Stephanie unpack how self-regulation develops, why children and young adults are still learning these skills well into their twenties, how dysregulation can be mistaken for “bad behaviour,” and why parents need practical tools like going “below calm,” using gentle cues, listening instead of fixing, and recognizing their own stress signals. And as parents, it can feel equal parts fascinating and terrifying.Should we be worried? What skills will our kids actually need? And how in the world do we prepare children for jobs that don't even exist yet?In this solo episode, I dive into the rapidly changing world of AI through the lens of parenting, critical thinking, life skills, and human connection. I'm exploring why parents can't afford to ignore this conversation… but also why panic probably isn't the answer. In this episode, you'll hear:Why AI might eliminate some jobs… but create entirely new industries we can't yet imagineThe surprising historical parallels between AI and the decline of family farmsWhy trying to predict your child's future career may be impossible (and that's actually okay)What Back to the Future got hilariously wrong about the year 2015The reason “human touch” jobs may become even more valuable in the AI eraHow my husband uses AI all day long and why he says he may never code manually againThe parenting mindset shift we need if technology keeps evolving faster than schools can adaptWhy life skills, critical thinking, adaptability, and human connection still matter more than everIf you've ever wondered whether AI is something to fear, embrace, resist, or simply learn alongside your kids, this episode is the beginning of an important conversation for every modern parent.Resources We Mention for Parenting in the Age of AIGet those kids #LifeSkillsNow!Here's my TEDx talk on why kids need critical thinking skillsMore about confidence and competence (especially as it has to do with learning to cook)Why chores aren't punishment – and here is my simple chores system if you need it!How to Help Kids Thrive with (and in spite of) Tech and ScreensNurturing Young Skeptics: Essential Guide to Teaching Critical Thinking to Kids and TeensDon't miss #LifeSkillsNow - register right now!Kitchen StewardshipRaising Healthy Families follow Katie on Instagram or FacebookSubscribe to the newsletter to get weekly updatesYouTube shorts channel for HPHFind the Healthy Parenting Handbook at raisinghealthyfamilies.com/podcastAffiliate links used here. Long lived organisms like trees face a lot of challenges throughout their lifetime. Disturbances big and small coupled with climate change are going to continue to stress trees wherever they grow. Which trees have the highest capacity to deal with said stresses? We don't know until we go looking. That is what drives scientists like Dr. Jill Hamilton. Join us as we look at how she is using poplars, spruce, and ash to understand how trees and their hybrids may or may not have what it takes to survive climate stress. We hope that you are enjoying Leaving Egypt. We would invite you to join the Leaving Egypt community on Substack by becoming a paid subscriber: https://leavingegyptpodcast.substack.com/subscribeIn this episode, Al Roxburgh and Jenny Sinclair speak with Sophie Taylor about the quiet but growing movement of young adults towards the Catholic Church. Drawn by a hunger for truth and belonging amidst a chaotic culture, many arrive with little formation - some new to faith, others reclaiming what earlier generations let slip. Sophie explores what attracts them: the Church's sacramental imagination - beauty, liturgy, art, and mystery - and the way parish life can reframe reality and relationship. She also names the challenges of moving from online isolation and post-COVID social anxiety into embodied community, arguing that young adults need more than a friendly welcome: they need intentional formation in relational life. With realism and hope, Sophie describes how deep listening and attentive encounter can renew belonging in the Church and beyond. This is a compelling picture of God's mission at work - one heart at a time - inviting the whole Church to become a living oasis amid the storms of our age.Sophie Taylor is the Adult Faith Formation Officer at the Diocese of Leeds, where she supports new Catholics, resources catechists, and organises formation events and days of reflection to help adults across the diocese grow in faith. She also works part-time supporting the pastoral life and community at the parish of St. Joseph Brighouse and St. Patrick's Elland. After gaining her degree in Theology at Leeds Trinity University, when she also served in the diocesan youth team, she taught RE in the North East of England, where she also served in her local parish. For Sophie Taylorhttps://www.dioceseofleeds.org.uk/education/welcome/meet-the-team/https://www.dioceseofleeds.org.uk/new-eve-faith-formation-day-celebrating-womens-call-to-holiness/https://www.dioceseofleeds.org.uk/new-catholics/https://stjosephschurchbrighouse.co.uk/our-faith/our-newsFor Alan J Roxburgh:http://alanroxburgh.com/aboutFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/alan.roxburgh.127/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thecommonsnetworkBooks:Forming Communities of Hope in the Great Unravelling: Leadership in a Changing World (with Roy Searle)Joining God in the Great UnravellingLeadership, God's Agency and DisruptionsJoining God, Remaking Church, Changing the World: The New Shape of the Church in Our TimeFor Jenny Sinclair:Substack: https://t4cg.substack.com/s/from-jenny-sinclairWebsite: https://togetherforthecommongood.co.uk/from-jenny-sinclairLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-sinclair-0589783b/Twitter: https://twitter.com/T4CGFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TogetherForTheCommonGoodUKInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/t4cg_insta/ Get full access to Leaving Egypt at leavingegyptpodcast.substack.com/subscribe

Psychologists Off The Clock: A Psychology Podcast About The Science And Practice Of Living Well
Modern life has become a gauntlet of "dangerous weather" that frequently strips away our most basic human needs. In this episode, Emily speaks with author and strategist Stephanie Malia Kraus about her book, How We Thrive, and the essential practice of "rehumaning." Stephanie breaks down the four systemic forces, from hustle culture to addictive tech, that undermine our well-being and offers a roadmap for reclaiming play, wonder, and rest. The discussion bridges the gap between ancient Hawaiian wayfinding and modern neuroscience, highlighting the critical importance of restorative "downstates" and simple regulation tools for navigating an increasingly overstimulated world.Listen and Learn:How the Hawaiian tradition of Wayfinding teaches us to navigate a world that has "shifted on its axis" by anchoring into timeless human essentials, and influenced Stephanie's bookWhy the friction you feel in parenting isn't a personal failure, but a biological mismatch between our human nature and modern society Recognizing the four universal forces: Overtapped, Overworked, Overstimulated, and Overwrought, and understanding why feeling depleted isn't a personal failure, but a natural response to the "stormy" conditions of modern living Why our modern "social jet lag", the mismatch between our hectic schedules and our biological needs, is fueling a youth mental health crisis, and how reclaiming "human essentials" like sleep, play, and internal attunement can act as a biological superpower for both parents and teens How the practices of celebrating small wins, contributing to others, and nurturing an inborn sense of belief act as biological shields that restore our dignity and spark a protective sense of hope even in the most difficult seasons of life How "lemon squeezes", a simple technique of tensing and releasing your muscles for 20 seconds, uses the science of progressive muscle relaxation to signal safety to your nervous system and bring your body back into balance in less than a minute Resources:How We Thrive: Caring for Kids and Ourselves in a Changing World https://bookshop.org/a/30734/9781071957561 https://rehumaningourlives.substack.com/https://www.rehumaning.com/Connect with Stephanie on Social Media: https://www.youtube.com/@StephanieMaliaKrausshttps://www.linkedin.com/in/stephaniemaliakrauss/https://www.instagram.com/stephaniemaliakrauss/ About Stephanie Malia KraussStephanie Malia Krauss is an author, speaker, and strategist focused on rehumaning childhood and our lives. What do you do when you don't speak the same language but still want to connect? For a group of students from Yale University, the answer was simple: you sing. This March, The Whiffenpoofs acappella choir set out on a tour across China. Round Table's Yushan talked to three members of the team about their journey, the experiences they had, and the stories they want to share.
May 4th marks Youth Day in China, and to mark the occasion, Round Table's Yushun sat down with Alex Lamb, an AI professor at Tsinghua University. Their topic? How young people are engaging with AI these days.

In the season three premiere episode featuring Mark Levin and Yael Eckstein of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, listeners are invited to explore the pressing issues that the world faces today. As tensions rise globally, particularly in the Middle East, the conversation centers around the importance of Judeo-Christian values and the unity between Christians and Jews in confronting the challenges of our time. Levin and Eckstein begin by addressing the current geopolitical landscape, focusing on the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Iran. They highlight the significance of standing together in the face of adversity, emphasizing how both faiths share a common goal of sanctifying life, as opposed to the ideologies that promote death and violence. This clash of civilizations is not just a political issue; it is deeply rooted in spiritual warfare, as Eckstein articulates so eloquently. As the conversation unfolds, the two delve into the alarming rise of anti-Semitism and cultural decay that has permeated Western society. They discuss how the erosion of faith and values leads to a society that forgets its foundational principles. Eckstein makes a compelling case for the necessity of faith as a counterweight to this decay, urging listeners to recognize the spiritual battle at hand. One of the most poignant moments in the episode is when Eckstein speaks about the humanitarian work being done by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. With a mission to support those in need, the Fellowship embodies the values of compassion and unity. They are actively involved in providing aid in Israel and beyond, showcasing the power of fellowship in action. The episode concludes with a call to action, encouraging listeners to stand firm in their beliefs and to engage in the fight against the forces of darkness that seek to divide. Eckstein's message is clear: when we come together in faith and fellowship, we can illuminate the world and make a significant impact. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in understanding the current landscape of faith, culture, and politics. Levin and Eckstein provide valuable insights that remind us of the importance of unity and the shared values that can guide us through these challenging times. Tune in now to be inspired and informed. Building on the AI in Education Global Community of Interest session held in January, and drawing on related World Bank work in this space, including initiatives supported by the Mastercard Foundation, they discuss how institutions are approaching AI literacy, from understanding how these systems work to addressing their limitations and ethical implications. The conversation also looks at how teaching and assessment are evolving, the growing demand for AI-related skills, and the challenges universities face in putting strategies into practice. With examples from Purdue and insights from Coursera, it highlights the importance of balancing technical knowledge with human skills and keeping AI systems human-centered and inclusive.Links:About the AI in Education Global Community of Interest: https://edtechhub.org/world-bank-ai-in-education-global-community-of-interest/About Coursera: https://www.coursera.org/About Purdue University (Engineering Education): https://engineering.purdue.edu/ENELASSO Education (adaptive testing systems)https://lassoeducation.org/The World Bank Group and Mastercard Foundation partnership: https://www.worldbank.org/en/programs/tes/partnersA podcast produced by Lucía Blasco.
This is where it gets spicy. Part two kicks off with a crash course in policy experiments and why state-vs-state competition could be America's cheat code—or its downfall. If you've ever raged at why politicians keep talking but nothing gets fixed (homelessness, out-of-control rents, broken education system), Bill Gurley is right there with you—AND he's backing up his rant with receipts. We peel back what actually works in places like Austin and Houston—and why so much good policy gets blocked by bad incentives and performative politics. Get ready for eye-popping stories about lobbyists, broken U.S. systems versus what works in Germany and China, and why American media coverage can't keep up. Plus, we go deep on the future of AI—where Bill is refreshingly candid about both the bubble and the opportunity (if you're not learning these tools, what are you even doing?!). Bill breaks down exactly who loses their jobs, how schools and kids can weaponize curiosity, and why passion—not just hard work—protects you from getting left behind. Wrapping up, we riff on Bill's new book “Running Down a Dream,” the cruel illusion of the “safe” path, and why genius (and VC success) is a young person's game. This is SO much more than tech talk—this is your cheat sheet for thriving in a world that's never stopping. Portfolio construction is being redefined as investors face a fundamentally different market regime. Higher inflation, shifting interest rate dynamics, and accelerating megaforces like AI and geopolitics are challenging long-held assumptions about diversification and asset allocation across capital markets. In this episode of The Bid, host Oscar Pulido sits down with Vivek Paul, Head of Portfolio Research and UK Chief Investment Strategist at the BlackRock Investment Institute. Together, they explore why traditional portfolio construction frameworks may no longer be sufficient and how investors are adapting to a world of greater uncertainty, dispersion, and structural change. Vivek explains how megaforces such as AI investing and geopolitical fragmentation are creating unprecedented outcomes across markets, making static asset allocation less effective. He outlines why portfolio construction must become more dynamic and granular, with a deeper focus on underlying risk exposures rather than broad asset class buckets. The conversation also examines the growing importance of private markets, active strategies, and scenario analysis in navigating today's environment.Timestamps00:00 Introduction01:56 What's driving the shift in portfolio construction03:24 Megaforces: AI and geopolitics06:15 Rethinking traditional asset allocation09:27 Diversification in a new regime12:10 Total Portfolio Approach: Private markets and active strategies14:28 Scenario analysis and future outcomes17:48 Risks and maintaining structure19:00 Key takeawaysSources: Rethinking portfolio construction during transformation, BII February 2026portfolio construction, capital markets, AI investing, megaforces, asset allocation, private markets, stock market trends, investing strategy, diversificationThis content is for informational purposes only and is not an offer or a solicitation. Today we're talking about what it really means to thrive in a world that often feels overwhelming—for our kids and for us. My guest is Stephanie Malia Krauss, author, speaker, and strategist whose new book How We Thrive: Caring for Kids and Ourselves in a Changing World explores the urgent need to protect the human essentials—things like sleep, play, connection, and wonder—that modern life so often erodes. Stephanie and I explore the idea of “rehumaning” how we live, learn, and parent. We talk about the interconnectedness of body, mind, heart, and spirit, and the importance of collective care in raising kids in today's world. Stephanie shares practical, grounded ways to navigate overwhelm and make small shifts in daily life that can help families move from merely surviving to truly thriving. About Stephanie Malia Krauss Stephanie Malia Krauss is an author, speaker, and strategist helping leaders rehuman how we live, learn, and work. Stephanie's commitment to this work began as a teacher and coach, where she witnessed how different environments can deplete or restore people. She later founded a school for young people furthest from opportunity, and now leads national and state efforts in education and youth development. Working with leaders from classrooms to Congress, Stephanie advises states, districts, and national organizations through her consulting shop, First Quarter Strategies. Dr. Lawrence Uricchio is Assistant Professor and the Youniss Family Professor of Innovation in the Department of Biology at Tufts University. Research in Lawrence's lab focuses on modeling how evolutionary and ecological processes work. They use a combination of experimental and observational approaches to generate data, and then they develop mathematical models to explain the observations they make in nature. Outside of work, Lawrence is a devoted family man who loves spending time with his nine-year-old son, often shuttling him between soccer practices and games. He also enjoys being outdoors and running, a passion that has stayed with him since his days as a middle-distance runner in high school and college. He completed his bachelor's degree in physics at Carleton College, received master's degrees in biophysical sciences and computer science from the University of Chicago, and was awarded his PhD in bioinformatics from the University of California, San Francisco. While at UCSF, he was named a Discovery Fellow. Afterwards, Lawrence conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University under a Center for Computational, Evolutionary and Human Genomics (CEHG) Fellowship and an NIH Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA). He also conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley before joining the faculty at Tufts in 2021. In this interview, Lawrence shares more about his life and science.
