Over the last several months Ms. Cobo’s music class has taken part in the Young Composers & Improvisors Workshop, an innovati…
I got my title from another song which my friends and I find funny. I began my piece with the lead violin and composed it with everything else complementing it. Composing music was kind of like painting on a canvas experimenting with colors until I found the perfect one. Music composition has a lot more technicalities than I expected. My piece is kind of like an ode to joy; so basically, it’s a celebration. It is dedicated to the happy days ahead!
I got the title for my piece “Brave At Heart” from my mentor Christina Cobo. She guided me a bit when I had some trouble with my piece. I finally got down and seriously started to work on my piece. She also mentioned that my piece reminded her of the movie Brave Heart. I began my piece by just messing around with the notes and listening to them over and over till they sounded in sync and had a great sound to it. When I started to compose the music it was actually very difficult. I wasn’t sure how to even start it. I was struggling to make it sound nice. I learned through making my own music, that making music isn’t actually easy and that it takes time and patience to find the right notes and where to place them. It’s a talent and skill to compose music. My piece doesn’t really represent anything like a place or an animal. I prefer for the listener to feel the music and think about what it’s about. My piece is dedicated to my teacher and mentor, Christina Cobo and how she put up with my laziness. :)
I gave my piece the title “GG Wp” which means good game, well played because it is my favorite phrase. I began my piece by finding a good rhythm and going on with it. I like all types of music that has a good back ground so it was fun creating my own composition. I learned how to mix 6 different instruments and how to make it sound good. My composition is dedicated to me because I did this work.
The title of my piece is Gemini due to the fact that there is a section in my piece that repeats, however different instruments use that melody. The Cello opens up the piece and then the flute follows and both the flute and the cello close with that same melody. Although these two instruments are in this section of my piece they sound completely different as if it has its own personality. “Gemini is thought to be very adaptable and flexible, sometimes to the point of being two different personalities.” The process of composing my piece was very tedious. I had to constantly change my composition since I was never satisfied with my results. With the help of Luis, he had helped me figure out a melody for my composition. This allowed me to further figure out how I would like my composition to sound. Composing music isn’t easy. You can’t just stick random notes in random places. I have almost no background in music but I most definitely know the difference between compositions that have been worked hard on and vice versa. Although this was a long process, I really enjoyed working on my piece. Making my composition allowed me to really sit down and hear what I have learned throughout the year by both my teacher and Noteflight. I’ve learned the patience that is necessary when it comes to composing. My piece really isn’t about any extra ideas. I just started my piece with very deep notes and as the composition progresses it lightens up and deepens at the end of the piece. My piece is dedicated to Luis Cobo and Christina Cobo since they helped me with both inspiration and composition.
My music teacher gave me the idea for the tittle” The Music from My Village”. I began my piece with simple notes and I started with a violin. As I started coming up with different notes I got an idea for other instruments too. It starts with using a violin witch gives it a smooth sound but then I added more instruments from the background so that each could connect. I have 26 measures and I used a violin, cello, flute, bassoon, clarinet and french horn. In some notes i used repetition and variation. I learned that by making different notes and coming up with different sounds its amazing how you can create your own music. You can mess around a little with the instruments and notes untill you like how it sounds. My piece is dedicated to Matt and Cristina Cobo for helping me out in creating my first composition.
I have decided that the title to my composition is “Sunshine” due to the mellow sound of the composition overall. It reminds me of happiness and summer. To start my composition I began by adding six instruments at once, and came to find out that by adding too many at one time it took my focus away from one instrument and perfecting it. I then deleted some instruments and worked with only three, and at the end, I added my final three, being the Flute, Bassoon, and French Horn. Having never composed music before, it was extremely hard in the beginning, but by going through the lessons and receiving help from my teacher, it became easier as time went by. Making my own composition, I learned that musicians have to go through a lot to perfect their piece before playing it to an audience, making me appreciate their skills very much. My composition piece reminds me of the summer due to its medium pace and the melody that it has. Although my piece is not dedicated to anyone, I would like to thank my music teacher Christina Cobo for the work she has put in to help us compose our first music pieces.
The name of the composition is Master because it is a master piece. It begins a little slow and then moves on to a fast, heavy pace. This experience was a new feeling because it gave me an opportunity to make my own music. I like to keep my creations simple yet elegant. My piece is somewhat about seasons because of how it changes from slow to fast and soft to loud. My piece is dedicated to my music teacher.
I gave this piece the title “The Last song” because its the last song for my high school career. I began my piece by finding inspiration from my friend, Gysel. It was difficult to continue once I had my starting notes.Composing was an interesting and new experience as I’ve never made one before. I learned that music comes in all types of sounds and anyone can make it if they find inspiration.
I gave this composition the name it has today because it is my mixtape, a mix of different instruments, my collaboration of different ideas. I began my piece with the aspiration that later in the year I will end this composition with a grin on my face. The process that I underwent to finish this piece was extremely challenging, since I didn’t know a thing about composition, but it was hard work and time well spent. It was a very different experience. I felt more accomplished and cultured when I was doing it. I learned a lot of things, such as what an actual note is, the different octaves, the different lengths, and steps etc. I feel like my music reminds me of a homeland of a different origin than I have. It makes me feel as if I was from there. Finally, I dedicate this piece to Ms. Christina Cobo, mainly for putting up with my antics all year and also for helping me and guiding me towards putting the final touches on my piece.
I named my song after my last name. I began my piece by looking for a melody I liked, then built up my song from there by adding more instruments and melodies to harmonize. Composing music was like doing anything else, hard when you are new to it but gets easier as you progress. I learned that making music is harder than it looks but is based on each individual. My piece is simply put together from notes I felt harmonized well.
I gave this piece the title that it has because it is the first piece I have ever composed. I began my piece just by playing around with different notes. I put what I thought sounded okay. Composing music is not as easy as I thought it would be. There were many times I would have to change certain notes because they didn’t sound right.
I titled my composition DCOBO because my first and last name both start with D and COBO is my mentor/teacher’s last name. She has helped me a lot to compose this music piece, so I added her name too. I started it with violin because I like how it sounds. Then I added more instruments to make my composition sound better. I had a great feeling composing my music because it was a new experience and I always love experiencing new things. I learned that adding more instruments to a composition will make your piece sound better and nicer. My music piece represents a couple having a conversation. The thicker part of my music represents the male and the softer part represents the female. Overall, composing this music piece was a great experience and I totally loved it.
