Ep 205: Kardashian Bonus Show: Season 19, Episode 4 Recap: "Trouble in Palm Springs"

This week's KUWTK did NOT disappoint, and Emma and Julie are so excited to really break it all down. It has everything - the Palm Springs house, (almost) all of the siblings and grandkids, fashion, games, behind-the-scenes....you name it. Perhaps most interesting to analyze is the Kendall/Kylie dynamic that was really brought to light towards the end of the episode.  The episode centers around a Palm Springs weekend getaway to reset and all be together. We get an inside look at Corey's very different relationships with all of Kris' kids - but mainly Kendall and Kylie. They hope that this time together will help strengthen his bond with Kendall, and they convince her to come (while customizing Ferraris, of course.) Khloé is also looking forward to the weekend with her family, specifically with Kourtney, as she still feels a strain on their relationship.  Once everyone arrives in Palm Springs, Scott breaks one of Kris' expensive vintage lamps and enlists Mason and North to help hide the evidence. After Kris searches high and low, Mason finally convinces Scott to fess up and Scott sets a good example for his son.  This is where things get crazy. To conclude the trip, they head out for a night out at a drag show. Tensions are (unexpectedly) high between Kendall and Kylie, and they get into two major fights over the course of the night - first over an outfit, and second over their plans to drive home together. Corey finds himself in the middle as the girls get physical, and it's a raw, real family moment caught on camera. Emma and Julie have so much to analyze here and really break down the family dynamics, past issues, and the potential root of some of the arguments. Learn more about your ad choices. The boys are excited and a little loopy. Maybe, because it's a true fall day... or because they're drinking cider. They are all over the board to start the show, but give props to Fats Domino, and riffs on old men and captains hats (11:30). They give baseball its due. Which is two minutes (19:34), before recapping their preseason predictions (22:17). After Kris's rant, Chris isn't in the mood for it, they move on to picks (32:20). Easy on the cider fellas.

This week Kris shares the advantages to playing board games with Canadians, before he reviews Clint Eastwood’s latest movie SULLY (at 2:38). The mediocre film has a lot in common narratively with Eastwood’s last effort AMERICAN SNIPER, especially since the same things work well (a focus on the effects of trauma) and the same things don’t (artificially created villains). After Kris explains how the movie ends awkwardly on a joke, Dave delivers a quick “Riedel’s Recap” of DON’T BREATHE (at 19:57). Following the segment, Evan describes the coming-of-age film MORRIS FROM AMERICA (at 20:58), which has great music, and features the fantastic Craig Robinson in a rare dramatic role. Finally, the guys arrive at their main event: the ‘80s horror flick SLEEPAWAY CAMP (at 30:32). They describe its weird flashbacks, its endearing incompetence, and the craziness that runs in its blood as they dig into this time capsule, which 2/3 of them agree is good for what it is. Be sure to stick around post-credits for a completely unrelated bonus story.

The guys open this week’s episode with a discussion on Deez Nuts’s candidacy for president. Then Kris and Evan rip into WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS, which they agree does NOT star Zac Efron as a young Robert Loggia. Their agitated commentary is enough to leave Dave “slack-jawed and open-mouthed.” After Kris expresses confusion over more celebrities (this time Brian Austin Green and Ian Ziering), Dave takes over to share his thoughts on two fucking horrible movies. First up is TEN THOUSAND SAINTS, where the most interesting character dies 15 minutes in and Ethan Hawke plays almost the same character he did in BOYHOOD. Second is DIGGING FOR FIRE, one of the whitest movies Dave has ever seen. Joe Swanberg’s film is about dull white people with dull white people problems, and it’s so bad that it makes Dave’s soul die a little bit.
