Are you jonesing for Jessica Jones? We know we are! Jonesing for Jessica discusses the hit Marvel and Netflix show Jessica Jones episode by episode. Graphic Policy Radio hosts Brett and Elana are discussing the series and are joined each week by special guests. For this week's episode the team is joined by Sarah Jaffe and Amanda Mayer to discuss the eighth episode "AKA WWJD?." Jessica experiences a strange homecoming courtesy of Kilgrave. Hogarth's conflict with her estranged wife reaches a tipping point. Sarah Jaffe is a reporting fellow at the Nation Institute and a giant nerd who once upon a time wrote about comics more than she wrote about politics, believe it or not, and she has lots of feelings about superhero movies AND their politics. Follow her on Twitter https://twitter.com/sarahljaffe Amanda Mayer is a writer, performer, and director living in NYC. She can currently be seen playing with the musical improv team Goats every Tuesday night at the Magnet Theater. She is also sometimes a lawyer. So listen in, and join us in the conversation. Tweet them to us @graphicpolicy.
Graphic Policy Radio returns after a breif hiatus, and in this episode we go Who! Tonight, we're discussing Doctor Who, focusing on Titan Comics' various series featuring the many recent doctors. We're joined tonight with special guests Amanda Mayer and Chris Reid. Amanda Mayer is a writer, director, and comedian, as well as a long-time Whovian. She can currently be seen performing with musical improv teams Goats and Orphan Alley around NYC. Chris Reid is a lifelong nerd, avid gamer (both digital and physical) and consumer of sci-fi and fantasy entertainment in its various forms. He runs a solo law practice in Brooklyn, working largely with indie game developers and others in the game industry helping them navigate the various legal issues that crop up in their business (and sometimes procrastinating by playing his client's games). Chris watched the occasional old-school Doctor Who as a kid when it was on TV, but didn't really get into the Whoniverse (don't call it that) until about 2008, at which point he became an instant obsessive fan. Join us for this wibbly wobbly timey wimey episode as we enjoy some fish fingers and custard and talk all things Who!
They say necessity is the mother of invention, but alcohol helps, too. Born from attending a few too many beer festivals, 33 Beers is a beer journal that provides an easy way to record tasting notes in a small, convenient notebook format. It’s designed for beer geeks, by beer geeks. The author of 33 Beers is this week’s guest on Fuhmentaboudit! and he describes the tasting process that went into the making of this book! Amanda Mayer of SingleCut Beersmiths is also in the studio – and together the group chats about tasting notes, beer varieties and drinking memory! This program was sponsored by Fairway Market. “Tasting is really about making personal observations.” [12:00] –David Selden on Fuhmentaboudit! “It’s beer – it should be fun – you should enjoy it with other people. It’s not a competition. If you don’t taste bitter chocolate from the roasted barley – that’s ok, you’re not a horrible beer drinker!” [29:00] –Amanda Mayer of Singlecut Beersmiths on Fuhmentaboudit!
