We check back in with Scott to see what it's looking like in NY because it seems like things are more serious there than I thought (and it is!). We turn our attention to the NFL where the Falcons have released thier new get-ups, and they've also gone on to release the NFL All-Decade team. We don't go too in depth, but as much as we can share on a 30+ miunute segment. Finally we wrap up by talking about the new Netflix movie, "Extraction" and how it begs the question, "Is this the period of time that the independent studios begin to bridge the gap?". Finally we talk about our first poll question for the HIgher State, Who is the better on screen duo: The Rock/Kevin Hart, Will Smith/Martin Lawrence or Chris Tucker/Jackie Chan? Sad to say we didn't want any mushu. Hope you enjoy this episode of the HIgher State podcast.
It’s been quite some time since Adam and Ian talked about a comedy and disagreed as to whether or not a film should be in the book. Well, this week on 1001 by 1 the guys tackle the 1988 comedy “The Naked Gun” and cannot find common ground. Topics discussed include what has and hasn’t aged well in this film (including O.J. Simpson), all the great gags, and for some reason Adam asks Ian about Brexit again. Also, this week Ian recommends “Frank” from director Lenny Abrahamson and Adam recommends the Chris Tucker/Jackie Chan action-comedy “Rush Hour”.
In these trying political days, sometimes you want some good old-fashioned fun. StorySmack aims to please, which is why we're talking about the 20th anniversary of the Chris Tucker/Jackie Chan buddy-cop flick RUSH HOUR. Can you read the words coming out of this screen? Not only did this box-office beast firmly establish Chan as star of American movies and catapult Tucker into super-stardom, it featured two minority leads long before the birth of social media. RUSH HOUR spawned two sequels (and perhaps a third, listen in!). We had a blast re-watching, join us for a conversation about this killer flick.
Brett Ratner has directed some of the biggest movies of all time! From RUSH HOUR, to X-MEN LAST STAND, FAMILY MAN & TOWER HEIST, his journey into this business is unlike any story you've heard. He made his way into NYU film school at 16, put Chris Tucker & Jackie Chan together, and was best buds with Michael Jackson. Hear it all in this fun and inspiring episode! Comedian Justin Hires is about to blow up! His new show RUSH HOUR, based on the movie with Chris Tucker & Jackie Chan, premieres March 31st on CBS! Justin tells us how YOUTUBE helped kickstart his career, making kids laugh on the playground doing Bill Cosby impressions, and how he turned down a job as an MTV VJ, to make the move to LA. He's a rising star, with strong comedic chops, and was so fun to interview. Get on the Justin Hires bandwagon, and follow him on TWITTER @justinhires.
