Poor Zak Starkey. First he was fired from The Who; then he was rehired by The Who. Now he's officially been "retired" from The Who. Jack details "the Zak Starkey saga" for Becky and Molly McAleer, and why Starkey isn't performing with his OTHER former band Oasis during their reunion tour. Elsewhere, Jack tells Becky and Molly about a bizarre story out of New York City. 2 wannabe socialites kept an ex-business partner captive in their townhome in order to extract the account information for his crypto fortune. Not only were the captors unsuccessful, but now they're facing some serious charges. Plus, according to folks in their circle, they just weren't fun to be around. Also discussed in this mammoth installment of Hardly Focused: Molly is performing 2 shows in Boston! See her June 25 at Laugh Boston, and June 26 at City Winery, alongside Rob Schulte and Meredith Lynch! Goo Goo Dolls' "Name" is about MTV VJ-turned-political commentator Lisa Kennedy, whom Becky was once told she looks like. When celebrities get cancelled, is it a matter of "waiting for the other shoe to drop?" Hailey "Hawk Tuah" Welch finally talks about her meme coin scandal on her Talk Tuah podcast. Dear 2003 TV Viewer, We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice an hour of Prime time. But we think you're crazy for making us put on a Game Show about how crazy these gubernatorial candidates were. You see them as you want to see them… In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of them is an ex-sitcom star, and an old guy, and an artist, an Adult film Star, an inexperienced adult, an ex-MTV VJ, and a son of a basketball player…Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, the Game Show Network. Tune in to find out how she channelled her dream of becoming an MTV VJ — a gig she learned about while watching Virginia Beach hometown heroes like Missy Elliott and Pharrell on TRL — into a climb up the masthead that started around the same time “The Hills” and The Devil Wears Prada put this career path in the pop cultural spotlight. He was a model and MTV VJ, and then Simon Rex transitioned to acting, becoming widely recognized for his comedic roles in the "Scary Movie" franchise, where his sharp timing and parody skills made him a fan favorite. But more substantial parts were on the horizon. On this episode, he talks about the job that changed everything, Sean Baker's *Red Rocket,” which won him wide acclaim, an Independent Spirt Award, and a fresh chapter in his career. He talks about the interesting new place he finds himself now at the intersection of “not caring and caring SO MUCH.” He explains what he had to do to feel confident playing a chef in Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut “Blink Twice,” learning that “to simply par the course” is enough, and sometimes “you don't have to slap the fish.” Plus much more! Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from Filmmaker Magazine. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft. Follow Back To One on Instagram
This week Tom & Zeus review the 1983 pivotal album, "Lick It Up" This was KISS' 11th studio album and the 23rd KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL. Lick It Up was the first studio album from KISS without the makeup. Before the release, the band was on MTV and unmasked with MTV VJ the late great J.J. Jackson and premiered the video for Lick It Up. This was the first (and last) credited album with Vinnie Vincent as a member. First not to have Ace Frehley credited as a member. First KISS album without any outside songwriters credited on an album. The album was produced by Michael James Jackson, who had just produced the previous album, Creatures Of The Night and the four original tracks on the compilation Killers. This was a critical point in KISStory. The band taking off the makeup was a big gamble. However, Paul kept thinking the audience was listening to KISS with their eyes and they needed to make this change. Now without the makeup, KISS was competing with their contemporaries on a even playing field. How did they do? Well, the album brought them back to not just gold status, but platinum. The addition of Vinnie Vincent was a difference maker. His guitar playing was great, but the energy he brought with his songwriting was just so evident. He co-wrote 8 of the 10 songs on the album, including the legendary title track, Lick It Up. The guys discuss the album cover, the videos and make a few bold statements about the album and the band with Vinnie Vincent. As usual the guys breakdown and analyze the tracks and rank the songs SIOL style. As always, they then compare the album and album cover and rank it against the previous studio albums reviewed. So tune in to find out if All Hell's Breakin' Loose after this album gets discussed and ranked and if the partnership of Frehley & Cusano have to file Chapter 11... I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Dave Holmes to the podcast. You might know Dave as an MTV VJ and host of TRL, you might know him as an author (his memoir, Party of One, is excellent), you might be familiar with his work as an actor, podcaster, even as an advice columnist. Dave's relatability and his pop culture obsessiveness have contributed to a decades-long stint in the public eye. Our conversation covers everything from struggles with sexuality to wanting to build an empire for the future to living a full life with a chronic illness (in this case, diabetes). I quiz Dave about his obsession with running, meeting Huey Lewis, and much more. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! Find Dave on IG here.

From becoming an iconic MTV VJ, starring in Dumb and Dumber, writing a New York Times Best selling book, to being diagnosed with a life threatening disease and today's guest and my friend Karen Duffy has done it all and has wisdom and positivity in spades! With her son Jack preparing to go off to college she wrote her new book WISE UP: Irreverent Enlightenment from a Mother who has been through it all. It's a series of letters filled with funny, heartwarming, wise, and irreverent life lessons drawn from the wisdom of the old stoic philosophers. It's one of Oprah Daily's most anticipated books. It's a book every parent might want to give their kid as they graduate college, but only after first reading it themselves. I just read it …and it might just change your life for the better. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thenewfeminist/support
A truly fascinating guest for this podcast episode. This dear friend of mine is Radio's version of Forrest Gump. He was there as the Berlin Wall came down, he was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, just before Desert Storm kicked off and was in the procession of a Royal Wedding. He helped Adam Curry become an MTV-VJ and even managed to swipe Boz Scaggs' Limo. He has so many fascinating stories to tell in this episode, plus he and his wife have an informative travel show called, "The Travel Planner's Show."
