Zo is in the famed Chinatown area of Los Angeles enjoying the sights, the sounds and, as it turns out, a bunch of commotion. Zo loves a good martial arts bout just like everyone else, but does a kung fu fight have to break out at the Chinese restaurant where he's at trying to enjoy egg fu young? It seems as though a well dressed Chinese man and a tall, lanky, goofy looking African American are in a full-on Hong Kong film fight with a bunch of unruly Chinese gangsters. At some point the tall goofy one, who's been talking non-stop during the fight, screams out "LAPD!," so these are supposed to be the cops? Instead of law and order they're causing an unacceptable amount of chaos smashing dishes, overturning tables and generally upsetting customers. Bumper to bumper traffic and kung fu fights . . . is Rush Hour always like this? Episode Segments00:03:41 - Opening Credits for Rush Hour starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker00:12:27 - Favorite Parts of the 1998 Film: Rush Hour00:28:04 - Trivia from the Movie Rush Hour00:33:25 - Critics' Thoughts on Brett Ratner's Rush Hour Please leave a comment, suggestion or question on our social media: Back Look Cinema: The Podcast Links:Website: www.backlookcinema.comEmail: fanmail@backlookcinema.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@backlookcinemaTwitter: https://twitter.com/backlookcinemaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/BackLookCinemaInstagram: https://instagram.com/backlookcinemaThreads: https://www.threads.net/@backlookcinemaTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@backlookcinemaTwitch https://www.twitch.tv/backlookcinemaBlue Sky: https://bsky.app/profile/backlookcinema.bsky.socialMastodon: https://mstdn.party/@backlookcinemaBack Look Cinema Merch at Teespring.comBack Look Cinema Merch at Teepublic.com Again, thanks for listening.

James Majure returns to the pod from Athens, GA for a two-part episode on Michael Mann's Manhunter, a box office and critical disappointment in 1986 that has emerged over the decades into being extremely influential not only on Mann's future works but on film and television in general, from genre conventions to forensic procedurals on TV. In part 1, we discuss the various cuts of Manhunter in existence, the source material, Thomas Harris' bestselling novel Red Dragon, Mann's tremendous empathy towards all the characters in his adaptation, the ways Manhunter's themes keeps turning up in Mann's later works, and how the Miami Vice series seems to have been a test kitchen for a lot of Mann's preoccupations as a film stylist.  Plus: a Michael Mann update with the surprise arrival of The Keep to Bluray and the 25th anniversary of The Insider. Pls sub to the PPM Patreon to support our ongoing struggle against the Diddler trafficking nexus and to access the recently declassified "Dossier #6.A": patreon.com/ParaPowerMapping This is an emergency broadcast in light of recent developments. Diddy Declassified class is back in session. Dossier #4 has been bifurcated. This first part, now unlocked for your listening pleasure & edification, is a solo segue back into the series, contending w/ some of the recent developments in the downfall of the House of Diddy: Dossier #4.A - Includes coverage of some of the recent developments in the Diddler's downfall, such as the grand jury indictment & a slew of additional lawsuit complaints that have been filed in recent weeks by plaintiffs like Thalia Graves & Michigan convict Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, as well as Alfredo P. Gonzalez, an incarcerated Sinaloan cartel member that had his lawsuit demanding $666k (sus) in damages as compensation for the biz he lost after allegedly getting blacklisted in the streets of NYC once he refused to traffick "boys / girls" for the Diddler dismissed by the presiding judge (sadly)... Fellow convict Cardello-Smith was much luckier (himself in prison on sex crime & unrelated kidnapping charges), as he received an initial $100 mil default judgment in his favor as Diddy failed to show up for the court proceedings or file a responsive motion. In the solo intro, we also go pretty deep on illustrating the interlocking ties between Z i o n i s t powerbroking families the Lauders (Estée Lauder) and the Bronfmans (Seagrams & otherwise) which brings the Diddler's close proximity to the Epstein-affiliated Mega Group into full view... As well as Harvey Weinstein. Illustrating how all of these entries in Diddy's Rolodex intersect both in the corporeal sense at his lavish, salacious Sean John x Estée Lauder fragrance launch parties, but also on a shared ideological Z i o n i s t level. And then we also examine Diddy's appointment of defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo (past clients include sexual monsters like NXIVM leader Keith Raniere, Harvey Weinstein, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, & Martin Shkreli, among many others) from this perspective of his shared social circle that numbers many Lauders & Bronfmans, and which brings Diddy buddy Edgar Bronfman Jr.'s family's close ties to the human potential sex cult into the mix, and which seems like a very foreboding bellwether for the Diddler's legal prospects, as pretty much all of Agnifilo's high profile defenses of sexual criminals & otherwise have failed utterly. We also get some of Edgar Bronfman Jr's music industry career details on the board, including his stint as CEO of Warner Music Group, which led to Bad Boy becoming an imprint for about 4 years, before he sold the major to fellow Z i o n i s t Len Blavatnik (not to mention buddy of cinema sex pests Harvey Weinstein & Brett Ratner). We talk the Diddler's apparent distro of illicit rape tapes, which takes his filming & blackmail tendencies to new noided heights... This is explored via the Thalia Graves lawsuit and Diddy's relationship w/ Rhymes & Dimes porno publisher & former celebrity bodyguard Big Joe Sherman. We talk about the corruption & bribery scandal in NY, Mayor Adams indictment, & a seemingly unrelated Hudson Valley case that resulted in a Judge putting his gun in his mouth & pulling the trigger while in the midst of a firefight w/ feds... And then there's a ton more besides. The art for this series, the Diddler nexus parapower map, was expertly rendered by noided pod design mastermind & friend of the show Robert Voyvodic (@rvoy__ on Twitter). Bring him your art & design needs and say Klonny sent you! linktr.ee/CatchingUpOnCinema This month is Masterclass Month at Catching Up On Cinema! September 2024 marks our 6th anniversary of podcasting, and to commemorate the occasion, we take a month to do a deep dive on a popular, long-lived movie franchise. For this year's Masterclass, we'll be reviewing the Hannibal Lecter series of films! Created by author Thomas Harris, Hannibal Lecter is a charismatic serial killer that, across multiple novels, films, and most recently, TV series, has consistently captivated global audiences since his inception in 1981. This week, our Masterclass continues with a review of confirmed piece of shit, Brett Ratner's, Red Dragon (2002)! The second adaptation of the first of Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter series of novels, Brett Ratner's, Red Dragon (2002) is a sanitized, and by the numbers adaptation of the classic novel of the same name. Once again produced by mega producers Dino and Martha De Laurentiis (who also produced Hannibal), Red Dragon, in spite of also featuring the talents of cinematographer, Dante Spinotti (who also shot Manhunter), and Ted Tally (screenwriter of Silence of the Lambs), is somewhat bland, and considerably less stylized rendition of Thomas Harris' novel than Michael Mann's, Manhunter (1986). Just a short year after the release of Hannibal (2002), Anthony Hopkins returns to reprise his role as Hannibal Lecter, with Edward Nortion starring as Will Graham, previously embodied on screen by William Petersen. An early example of a fanservice oriented prequel/sequel, Red Dragon goes out of its way to remind viewers at every turn, of the vastly superior Silence of the Lambs. Cast members, characterizations, iconography, and locations from Silence are all exploited, not without justification, but quite readily, and in a fashion that was not yet en vogue in Hollywood. In spite of its weaker presentation as compared to Manhunter, Red Dragon nevertheless benefits greatly from the novelty factor of its adaptation featuring additional scenes with Hannibal Lecter, and from ,pre greatly emphasizing the characterizations of Francis Dolarhyde and Reba McClane (played by Ralph Fiennes and Emily Watson respectively), who in Manhunter were given considerably less screen time. Blunt, and not especially confident in it's presentation or storytelling, Red Dragon is almost entirely buoyed by the efforts of its exemplary cast of players, with Ralph Fiennes and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman both making enormous contributions to the entertainment value of the film, in spite of the otherwise pedestrian filmmaking from director and confirmed piece of shit, Brett Ratner. Send us a Text Message. As we unlock the 81st episode, Anthony and Dakota discuss about the significance of 1981 and how Pyro and Mystique were introduced to the world that year.  Anthony's bubbling with excitement for his first convention since last summer. Our conversation unfurls into a spirited discussion about the missed opportunities of "X-Men: The Last Stand," and we promise to bring you Anthony's fresh tales from the OtakuFest in our next gathering.Venturing across galaxies and timelines, we grapple with the Star Wars saga's intricate chronology and the X-Men series' convoluted history. Sifting through the dense narrative threads of each franchise, Dakota proposes the creation of a visually compelling Star Wars timeline for fans to grasp the epic scope of its universe. Back with the mutants, we express our admiration for the layered storytelling in "X-Men: The Last Stand," despite its pitfalls, and reveal our desire to celebrate the nuances of these superhero epics. The curtains close with a spotlight on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the pioneer behind its success, Kevin Feige. We reminisce over the impact of his early work and the creative twists in character arcs, such as the Rogue-Bobby-Kitty love triangle. Before bidding farewell, we underscore the significance of those sneaky post-credit scenes, teasing a particular one that adds intrigue to the X-Men lore. So, plug in your headphones and let us be your guides in this geeky odyssey—ratings and reviews are, as always, immensely appreciated.Twitter handles:Project Geekology: https://twitter.com/pgeekologyAnthony's Twitter: https://twitter.com/odysseyswowDakota's Twitter: https://twitter.com/geekritique_dakInstagram:https://instagram.com/projectgeekology?igshid=1v0sits7ipq9yGeekritique (Dakota):https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBwciIqOoHwIx_uXtYTSEbATwitch (Anthony):https://www.twitch.tv/odysseywowSupport the Show.

We interrupt our regular programming for the first of several periodic check-ins with the X-Men's exploits on the silver screen! This "show within a show" begins with 2000's X-MEN - the movie that put comic book adaptations back on the map. Apropos of the concept itself, X-MEN's path to a theatrical debut was long and hard-fought. Plans to translate the series to film can be traced back to the early '80s, with comics creators Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas collaborating on a prospective screenplay for Orion Pictures. After Orion folded, subsequent efforts would invite interest from the likes of Kathryn Bigelow and James Cameron for Carolco Pictures. Carolco's bankruptcy saw the rights revert to Marvel, and development stalled for years with the company unable to make the case for their successful comics franchise. However, impressed with the X-Men's unexpected Saturday morning dominance for Fox's children's television division, producer Lauren Shuler Donner thought it only made sense to option the property for 20th Century Fox's live action slate in 1994. The next two years brought drafts and treatments by 'SEVEN' screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, author Michael Chabon, and filmmaker Ed Solomon. The studio considered Brett Ratner, Robert Rodriguez, and Paul W.S. Anderson, but it was Bryan Singer in whom Fox believed they had found their perfect fit for director. Following Singer's hiring, a finalized script was eventually hammered out, with David Hayter receiving sole screenwriter credit (despite contributions from Solomon, Christopher McQuarrie, and Joss Whedon ending up in the onscreen product). Still, Fox was hedging their bets due to a string of critical and commercial failures by superhero adaptations in recent years, capping X-MEN's budget at $75 million (a paltry sum by today's standards). Despite some shake-ups along the way (Exit Original Wolverine and Cyclops actors Dougray Scott and Jim Caviezel, respectively), what materialized was a lean and efficient picture, brought to life by an incredibly talented - if not entirely star-studded - ensemble cast. X-MEN would overperform to the tune of $300 million worldwide, establishing itself right out of the gate as a blockbuster franchise that would carry Fox to huge box office receipts for years to come. It would likewise serve as a career-defining film series for many of its performers, themselves household names today. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe poised to make a go at recreating the magic, X-Position takes a look back at where it all began! Join Jenny, Tim, and unofficial third co-host Keithie as we break it all down. From the creative choices, the good, the bad, and the ugly one-liners, to the cast that could have been (Glenn Danzig's Wolverine? Bob Hoskins??), and even Magneto's Mutant Cave Rave, no thought shall remain unread (or unsaid).

Take a stand! Directed by Brett Ratner, X-Men: The Last stand is the superhero film based on the X-Men comic books published by Marvel. Luke and Nathan return to the mutant world to revisit the 2006 sequel to X-Men 2 (2003), and third installment in the X-Men film series. The discovery of a cure for mutations leads to a turning point for Mutants (Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, Anna Paquin, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer). They may now choose to give up their powers and become fully human or retain their uniqueness and remain isolated. War looms between the followers of Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), who preaches tolerance, and those of Magneto (Ian McKellen), who advocates survival of the fittest.
