Craig Giangrande is a co-owner of Jeffrey Corporation; a family business that is a franchisee of Burger King Corporation. He, his brother Gary and their late father Tony initially purchased two units in 1991 and over the yearshave worked to develop their company to thirteen units located in the mid-Maryland/ south-central Pennsylvania area. Craig's late father, a first generation American, was an Army veteran of the Korean War era, and a small business owner. Initially, he owned a luncheonette on the docks of Brooklyn, NY, catering to stevedores and other shift workers. His mother, a longtime Frederick resident, comes from a line of Rhode Island oystermen and Western Pennsylvania coal miners.
Candidates for Maryland State Senate District 3 joined the In the Booth podcast to debate issues in their district and throughout the state ahead of the Nov. 6 election. The candidates answered questions regarding business and economic development, education, transportation, public safety and agriculture. Craig Giangrande, the Republican challenger for the seat, criticized incumbent Sen. Ron Young for his record for his stances on immigration in the state and the senator’s hope to implement “safe houses” for heroin addicts to be able to get clean needles and be in a safe environment. Young defended his record in his two terms in the senate, and offered his hopes to improve mass transit system in Frederick County and throughout the state.
A Republican businessman has won the Republican nomination for the District 3 seat in the Maryland Senate. Craig Giangrande, who owns several local Burger King franchises, made his announcement Wednesday morning outside Winchester Hall. His family was set to host a private fundraiser with former Republican Gov. Bob Ehrlich on Wednesday evening at their home. Giangrande, 52, is a first-time candidate in a race that’s been targeted for victory by the state Republican Party. While he’s followed local politics closely for years, Giangrande said he hopes to bring an outsider, business approach to legislating, with goals to make the state more business friendly and make government more accountable to constituents.
