The guys take a close look at Iowa State football's 2020 recruiting class, and how it could affect the team as early as next year. Are one of the freshman going to be the solution at safety next season? Can Latrell Bankston or Willis Singleton fill the holes on the defensive line? Who's going to step up at receiver following the losses of Deshaunte Jones and La'Michael Pettway? How does taking two quarterbacks affect Re-al Mitchell's status going forward?

This week, we're doing a two part in-depth season preview podcast for the 2019 Iowa State football season. Up first is the offense where we talk about one of the most exciting units in school history. We broke the podcast down by position, and gave our thoughts on a myriad of questions, including: What does Brock Purdy's potential look like, and where can he take the team? Is 2019 "make-or-break" for Re-Al Mitchell? Which running back will end up leading the team in carries and receptions? Does it matter? Breece Hall is receiving rave reviews in camp, but will he get the start against UNI? Tarique Milton and Deshaunte Jones both have starting spots locked down at receiver, but who will line up with them on the outside? What does receiver production look like when the group doesn't have an "alpha" to rely on?" Can the tight ends finally step up and be the true threat we've been talking about them being for the last few years? Who takes the lead role? The Cyclones haven't had a consistent offensive line for years, but 2019 does show some promise. Can the current offensive line configuration of Good-Jones, Olsen, Newell, Knipfel, and Meeker become a "good" unit capable of creating space in the running game, or will we need to see new blood? Does the line set the floor or the ceiling for the Cyclone offense in 2019?

Shortly before the podcast was set to go live, a bombshell dropped in the world of Iowa State basketball recruiting. Zion Griffin, one of the top players in the class of 2018 committed to Steve Prohm and the Iowa State Cyclones. We can’t think of a better way to kick off the 2018 class than landing the four-star forward. Josh, Levi and Austin debated and discussed Steve Prohm and Fred Hoiberg’s high school recruiting and what it means for the program going forward. After the dust settled and Austin ironically fumbled over his words discussing Sergio Dipp’s poor showing, we moved on to the Iowa State-Akron football game. Josh, our resident scout, broke down Akron’s offense and defense and what they will bring to the field Saturday morning. Look for Josh’s preview of the game this Friday. Where has Deshaunte Jones been? What is wrong with Mike Warren? We made our fearless predictions for the week and each volunteered to sleep in Matt Campbell’s bed. If you listen, we promise it will make sense....kind of. Don’t forget to subscribe on iTunes and tell your friends about the best WRNL podcast on the planet.
