Oliver Gage is the Director of Football at the Canadian Premier League and has a growing reputation for basing his footballing philosophy on a successful evidence-based approach to the sport and player development. Previously Head of Performance at the University of Virginia and Head of Performance Analysis and Technical Recruitment at Houston Dynamo, Oliver joined the Canadian Premier League as Head of On-Field Performance and Recruitment in 2019 before becoming Director of Football a year later. Oliver is also the son of former Aston Villa, Wimbledon and Sheffield United defender Kevin Gage. Kevin is regarded as a legend at the latter two clubs. Oliver is among the most dynamic and forward-thinking sporting figureheads in North America and has been credited with the inception of an innovative transfer policy, overhauling player recruitment and enhancing the quality of football within the division. The transfer policy implemented mandated teams sign four of their seven allowed foreign footballers through a league-run recruitment process that approved or rejected certain players, proactively recruited on behalf of clubs and offered teams players the league had secured. Although controversial and unique, other leagues have started to consider introducing a similar strategy following numerous success stories. In our conversation today we cover talent identification, player recruitment, surviving COVID as a new league, and ensuring that players are not overlooked during the critical ages of 16-22. Jeff Ward's experience, insight, and unique perspective on football is always in demand. The audience starves for his fearless, agenda-free, and irreverent take on the teams and storylines that matter most. Now, fans can get a steady diet of his football knowledge with regular segments titled “Six Minutes of Football." Follow The Jeff Ward Show on social media: Twitter Instagram Facebook Jeff Ward is a highly decorated former NCAA football player with extensive ties to the University of Texas. He's been nominated as an Outstanding Young Texas Ex, and while a student at The University of Texas, he was a four-year Letterman in football, a football team captain, a member of the Athletics Director's Academic Honor Roll, a three-time all-conference football player, and a two-time All-American football player. He's among the top five all-time leading scorers at The University of Texas, and he's the NCAA record holder for game-winning field goals. Jeff's time at The University of Texas provided him with knowledge of worldwide economics, marketing strategies and the economics of sports, particularly with NCAA Football. With the NCAA always finding itself involved in hot-button issues, Jeff Ward explains what's going on behind the scenes. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this segment of By Any Means Necessary, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Nate Wallace, co-host of Red Spin Sports to discuss the NFL's crackdown on “excessive taunting” and the racial aspects of its enforcement, how this fits into the NFL's record on race, and the endemic culture of violence and retribution that young football players face.

September 24, 2021 - Season 12, Episode 27 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers injury report heading into Friday. It's full of questionable players so we do our best at predicting how Sunday will shake out for each of them. The Steelers had several media sessions on Thursday and those included coordinators Keith Butler and Matt Canada. Alex and I hit on the main talking points from both coaches. We also go over a few things said on Thursday by outside linebacker Melvin Ingram and defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs ahead of the Steelers Sunday Week 3 home game against the Cincinnati Bengals. We talk some about what we expect to see out of Buggs and possibly outside linebacker Jamir Jones on Sunday against the Bengals. With the Steelers Week 3 game forthcoming, Alex and I dive deep into our final breakdowns of that contest against the Bengals. We talk about the best way to defend the Bengals offense and especially quarterback Joe Burrow. We also discuss the Bengals great receiving core.We discuss what we think the Steelers might try to do offensively on Sunday against the Bengals and if we think the running game will have some success in Week 3 with rookie running back Najee Harris. As usual, we pick all the remaining Week 3 NFL games against the spread later in this show and then follow that up by answering several emails we received from the listenership.
