In 2015, hundreds of thousands of people fleeing war and repression were trying to reach safe havens in Europe. From his home in Norway, Tommy Olsen decided to travel to Greece, a major gateway for migrants and refugees. He joined hundreds of volunteers  helping the new arrivals and later created an NGO, the Aegean Boat Report, which monitors the plight of asylum seekers in Europe.Today, Olsen is a wanted man in Greece, caught up in a crackdown on refugees and people trying to defend their right to asylum.“I didn't know what I walked into,” Olsen says.Mary Lawlor, the UN special rapporteur on human rights defenders, has condemned Greece's harsh migration policies and the way its government is targeting activists like Olsen. After returning to his faith, he found his theater background being redeemed when a Christian school invited him to teach theater.Over the following 25+ years, Ben worked in various "helps professions" — addictions recovery, wilderness therapy, and pastoral counseling — before enrolling at Western Seminary. There, a coaching class instantly clarified what he had been doing all along. He pivoted fully to coaching, eventually took over the seminary's coaching program, and has since spun it off as the independent Global Center for Coaching. The organization offers accredited online training for both those seeking a professional coaching credential and those who simply want to sharpen their relational skills. Most households may not see any immediate direct benefit from the Budget. It shows a return to surplus in the 2028/29 financial year, a year sooner than previously forecast. The forecast uses the OBEGALx measure, which excludes ACC. Infometrics Economist Brad Olsen says it might be a tad optimistic, given the state of the world, but we could maybe use some optimism. The Budget includes significant investment in education and training, which Olsen says should boost productivity. He told Mike Hosking it's an unusual Budget for an election year. Olsen says most households won't see anything directly, as the money's going on structural things that should make the economy stronger in the long run. He trained as an Armourer in 1953, and ended up working on numerous units and squadrons over the next two and a half decades, working on guns, cannons, ejection seats, helicopter winches, torpedoes, turrets and more. Les serviced armament equipment on Vampires at Ohakea, Canberras and Iroquois at RAF Tengah in Singapore, and he was one of the first Armourers to work on the new Lockheed Orions when they arrived at Whenuapai in 1966. He talks about being on the duty crew when No. 75 Squadron RNZAF Canberra WF915 went missing in a storm off Malaya and F/O David Finn was killed. (Les misremembered the Canberra’s serial number.) And he talks about being the first RNZAF member to drop a torpedo since WWII. And he tells lots of other great stories. Les is also the Armourer trade’s historian, keeping records of all the RNZAF Armourers through the decades right back to the beginning of the trade.
