The South and the SEC took over college football starting in 1998 -- and the North and the Big Ten helped let it happen. This five-part podcast series will examine the how and why of that -- from coaches to players to attitudes to geography to cheating to luck. Between 1998 and 2022, the North won just two national titles as Alabama's Nick Saban and a host of other Southern champs put the North in a corner. Episode 1 starts with a moment of Northern superiority -- the 2006 showdown between No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 Michigan. Then it explains how it all unraveled, including some close calls for the North that might have rendered this podcast moot if they'd gone another way. And yeah, once the South started winning, the South started bragging. The North didn't have much of an answer, on the field or in a war of words. The next four episodes will dive even deeper on coaches, players, attitudes and the shift in the sport that is ending this era of Northern shortcoming. Hosts Doug Lesmerises and Bill Landis from the daily college college football Kings of the North appreciate you being here, and they hope you enjoy The 25 Year Winter. Producer: Michael Henahan.

Former Texas A&M defensive end Shemar Stewart went undrafted and signed with the Bengals, but has been working out with A&M all offseason and rumors had been going that he was still going to try and return to A&M and play football If he would pursue coming back to A&M, it would require a lawsuit against the collegiate governing body—this of course would be an attempt to get one more year of NIL and hope to get drafted the next year….is that a story in years to come? The sport of college football has been going through a tumultuous time over the past few years as constant change and uncertainty have left everyone from athletic directors to head coaches to boosters unsure of which rules need to be followed, and which ones are more of a suggestion. Now, just about a month after the House Settlement supposedly got everyone on the same page (it didn't), and weeks after Congress looked like they might step in to provide some additional guardrails with the SCORE Act (they haven't), now it's the Executive Branch's turn to take a swing at solving the issue. Tony Gerdeman of BuckeyeHuddle.com joins host Tom Orr to discuss the latest news - a report from Ross Dellenger that the White House may try to save college football from itself with an Executive Order to answer some of the biggest questions facing the sport.
In this hour of VSiN PrimeTime, Tim Murray and Matt Youmans preview the 2025 college football season. Plus, Steve Cofield joins the show to preview UNLV's 2025 college football season.

We dive into Florida State's must-win season for Mike Norvell with new coordinators Gus Malzahn and Tony White, examine NC State's coordinator overhaul and brutal schedule, and debate whether Duke has become the most reliable mid-tier team in the conference. We discuss what it'd mean if Virginia Tech figures out how to finish in close games, Syracuse's Year 2 challenge under Fran Brown, and Boston College's intriguing pieces under Bill O'Brien. Plus, we take the temperature of hot seats at Cal and Virginia. From "weird little stinkers" to teams that could totally reframe the national conversation, this is your guide to the ACC's most fascinating roller coaster of teams.
