Mick returns to Paul's Place in Liverpool to revisit Agnes & Joe Williams alongside fellow co-founder Kathy Devlin. Paul's Place was set up as a suicide bereavement service, and its success has seen it secure some Lottery funding, and now The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. Mick was able to visit in person after covid rules were relaxed, but social distancing was maintained throughout using a stethoscopic microphone. There's so many logistics that need addressed for adult caregivers. Amy Torrez's own personal experience showed her how things can be overlooked, especially if a loved one is receiving treatment far from home. That's why she founded Paul's Place: Support for Families, Inc., to provide temporary housing for caregivers while their loved ones receive the treatment they need. Torrez chats with Apex Benefits Strategist Kassee Lamm about the organization on this episode of The Point Podcast: Fort Wayne. What experiences have you had whilst trying to board an aeroplane as a disabled person? Perhaps you have been spoken down to on holiday, or maybe the hotel which promised you disabled access told a completely different story once you got there? In this episode I speak to a few of our members with plenty to say on this matter, as well as some of the fantastic staff here at Paul's Place who have a tale or two to share!
Several weeks ago on the show, **Mick Coyle** invited the team from **Paul's Place** into the studio to discuss the **Talk Tonight** benefit concert of which they were one of the recipients. With Mick taking a break for the week, we thought this would be a chance to **revisit that interview**, and take a look at some of the work they do with the **families of those bereaved by suicide**. Originally broadcast November 7th 2018. Produced by John Fogarty.
Mick was joined in the studio by Agnes and Joe Williams. who lost their son Paul in 2015 after he took his own life, and Kathy Devlin, Clinical Lead at Beacon Counselling Trust. Agnes and Joe told Mick of their heartache at losing Paul at the age of 28 to suicide, after his long history with depression and how they believe that Paul didn't want to die - he just wanted the pain to go away. Agnes and Joe also expressed how important bereavement counselling is to them and how Kathy from Beacon Counselling Trust, who also lost her brother Paul to suicide, has helped them over the last two years. They have set up a charity in Paul's name, "Paul's Place", where they are aiming to help other bereaved families. Plus, hear from comedian Jack Rooke and his thoughts on men’s mental health.
