Kira and Hannah are joined by special guest Miranda to briefly relive the dark times post series 4. We tackle blog theory, alibi theory, and how will series 5 work after series 4? In the second half we get into the unaired pilot's two dollar budget, overt gay vibes, and differences to the aired episode (plus a Culverton tangent so beware!). Before diving into the show proper, we discuss a couple sources on the homosexual subculture of London in the late-Victorian era up to the trial of Oscar Wilde. Prepare yourselves for the unavoidable Mary Discourse, known scandals, the Gay West End, the trial of Oscar Wilde, the inherent queerness of amateur sleuths, and more. Special Guest: the ghost of Oscar Wilde possessing Hannah's cat (coincidentally named Oscar, in fact, after the legend himself). *Content Warning* for many mentions of historic instances of homophobia. We don't go into disturbing details of violence, but we do mention it and briefly discuss death, violence, and blackmail. We also quote examples of homophobic public opinion during this era that may be upsetting to some. Check out our blog chanceorchesspod.tumblr.com to see a picture of Oscar the fancy tuxedo cat.
