Danielle cannot pass up the opportunity to cover Minnesota murders! Last week on The Bachelorette, we saw hometowns take place in Minneapolis and got to meet the fathers of Nayte, Joe, Rodney, and Brandon. Danielle covers a father/son murder team from the rural farming town of Ruthton, Minnesota, who were struggling financially. A farming crisis in the 1980s and a Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) scheme (centered around the Jerusalem artichoke) had a huge economic impact on many generational farmers in this area of the Midwest, including this father/son duo. James Jenkins was a Minnesota farmer that had been down on his luck; so, he directed his anger towards the bank and recruited his son, Steven, to help him enact vengeance on the people they decided were the source of all their problems. On this episode of Indefensible Ink, Justin and Ryan go to the ends of the Earth to say something positive about Superman: At Earth’s End, the 1995 post-apocalyptic Elseworlds tale that poses the question, “What if Superman, but Daddy Santa Claus?” Your hosts tackle this question along with a bevy of other questionable creative decisions involving gigantic 90’s guns and superfluous pouches, the (not) surprising amount of Batman content in this ostensible Superman title, and a use of Nazi villainy that makes you long for the restraint and thoughtfulness of Quentin Tarantino. Welcome to Bitching about the Mabinogion! This season, we will be reading a set of approximately 12th to 14th century Welsh stories, with much more of a fairy tale vibe than the Decameron. In today's episode, we hear about an emperor of Rome, Macsen Wledig, who was inspired by a dream to seek out and marry Elen, a noble lady of northern Wales. CONTENT WARNING: Brief mention of genocide/mutilation. Near the end of the episode, two characters are taking a conquering army all over Europe. It is briefly explained (with very little build up) that wherever they went, they killed the men, abducted the women, and later cut out the tongues of the women to prevent them passing on their own language. This is told very matter-of-factly and briefly, but with no criticism, simply as an explanation for a place name.

CONTENT WARNING: Brief mention of rape and sexual assault. Featuring special guest Eric Leith (@biggergooseegg)! A perfect marriage of pulpy science fiction and gritty, sparse horror, Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece isn't just frequently cited as one of the best movies in either of these genres--it's frequently cited as one of the best movies ever made period! In this episode, the last surviving members of the ship Trylove examine ALIEN's mastery of worldbuilding, set design, and cinematography, chart how the film was influenced and the movement it went on to influence in turn, and examine how the state of the world around the time when ALIEN was made may have influenced its design and message. Tune in to hear the crew discuss ALIEN as a universal, timeless classic about the existential horrors of struggling for self-determination in a universe fundamentally hostile to our attempts! Tune in to hear them discuss ALIEN as a deeply timely film about the encroaching horrors of capitalism and corporatism! Tune into to hear them... discuss one of these things more than the other! But which?! There's only one way to find out! ...well, you probably know which, but listen anyway. Why didn't they just freeze him? Content Warning: Brief mentions of sexual assault, politics, rape, abortion, suicide, etc. No details are mentioned. Mild language is used. Why is it important for you to be involved in the politics in your country? As pagans, Wiccans, and general human beings, we need to be involved in the things that interest us as well as protect those around us. It is important for these decisions to be made based on facts and science and not faith and religion.
