***CONTENT WARNING - please read the show notes before proceeding. This episode is awe-inspiring but the topics we cover may cause discomfort.*** It's not every day that you come across someone who is willing to talk about the things that no one wants to talk about. In this episode, it's the adult s*x entertainment industry. The darkness that lurks in our society needs to be brought to light so that we can look it in the face and change it. That's why I applaud and love Nellah Mx for her bravery in sharing her story and doing her part to bring this darkness to the light so that we can prevent the generations after her from being thrown into the darkness. On this episode, I chat with Nellah Mx on: From str*pper to psychologist - the decision is always yours The realities of being in the s*x entertainment industry How to shift your reality Why sharing your story can help generations to come Plus so much more! Nellah is a Psychologist, Coach and Author. She was born in a small town in Central Slovakia. As a child, she listened to her parents, loved to study, dance and train in aerobics, and was a straight “A” student. By the age of sixteen, she became an aerobics instructor and managed her own dance group that mostly rejected old-fashioned styles and stiff ballet routines. Her desire to be a professional dancer and make a living out of it took her a different way. After the fall of communism, the borders opened, and she was eager to follow her dream. Just like many other girls from the former Eastern European block, she could not wait to make real money in the countries behind the borders. Nellah fulfilled her dream, in a slightly different form - she became a stripper. There, she mastered the language of flirting and manipulation and became a callous person with no emotions. Under the pressure of unpleasant experiences, she decided to leave this money-hungry industry that is based on sexual favours and transform her life. She moved to New York and signed up for college where she worked through the language barrier and adapted to the new lifestyle to complete a Master's degree in Psychology. She left all her stripper names behind and did not tell her past to anyone, up until now. She can't stay quiet seeing young girls going into sex work. When sex workers reveal their struggles and traumas to her, she can't just remain silent. When women are subjugated each and every day in the entertainment industry, she has to speak up. Currently, she works as a psychologist and a coach, and writing became her biggest passion. Rosie Hodsdon was struggling to make ends meet on a pHD stipend. Then she hit Record and began to make sex videos from her student flat, indulging her fetish for kink. As she explains to Olly in this intimate conversation, her sexy side-hustle introduced her to a range of peccadillos, including ‘Giantess' porn and ‘sploshing' - and even led her to be invited to join the cast of a professional adult video. But it also left her exposed to assault. Now an advocate for charity National Ugly Mugs, Rosie campaigns for increased rights for sex workers, and nurtures support networks for performers who fall prey to violence. And will he permanently damage his knees by just giving it a go? With help from break expert DJ Renegage and sports commentator Tim Warwood, Ollie BREAKS UP THE DANCE FLOOR. —— Elsewhere, in the Foxhole, Alix Fox has a memorable encounter with Susie Dent, assists a listener in an open relationship, and proves she knows the difference between a low cervix and a short vagina. As if we ever doubted it. She also showcases Islam-centred sex ed resources and support services, including The Village Auntie, Amaliah podcast ‘Lights On', sexologist Shaakira Abdullah and writer Habeeb Akande. —— Music this month comes from podcaster Rory Powers, known for his hugely entertaining show ‘This Paranormal Life'. Human trafficking affects millions of people not just around the world, but also right here in New England. So many cases go unreported each and every year, and it's incredibly easy for trafficking to take place right under our noses without most of us even realizing it. This week's episode is the first in a two part series on human trafficking. Victor Boutros, the CEO and co-founder of Human Trafficking Institute, talks with Nichole about the broader scale of the problem, and what HTI is doing to try and put a stop to it, one step at a time, in conjunction with law enforcement. PLUS: For more than 40 years, Food for Free has been working hard in the Boston area to help save perfectly edible food from ending up in the dumpster, and getting it into the hands of people who lack access to healthy meals. Happy Valentine's Day from all of us here at GateCrashers! Join Patrick and Amanda as they talk about the queer romance anime given! Content Warning: this episode repeatedly references homophobia, depression, and suicide. given, released in 2019 and finally receiving an English dub in 2022, follows high schooler UENOYAMA Ritsuka, a guitar prodigy, as he meets fellow student SATŌ Mafuyu, who has a guitar but doesn't know the first thing about playing or maintaining the instrument. Their relationship quickly develops into something more, with Mafuyu even joining Ritsuka's band with college students NAKAYAMA Haruki, the bassist, and KAJI Akihiko, the drummer. Soon it is discovered that Mafuyu can sing, and feelings begin to develop between Mafuyu and Ritsuka. In this episode, Patrick and Amanda talk about how wholesome this story of young, queer love is, and how happy it makes them feel despite some of the more stressful, dramatic parts of the story. They discuss the English dubbed performances from some prolific anime voice actors, which ranks among some of the best dubbed performances. They discuss the dynamics of Mafuyu and Ritsuka's relationship, as well as the feelings developing between Haruki and Akihiko. The supporting cast is discussed including Ritsuka's sister and his friends, as well as Mafuyu's old friends from his previous school. The hosts discuss the importance of queer stories like given, and with Valentine's Day upon us, how nice it is to have stories that show the characters truly in love with each other. They also discuss how universal this story feels due to the manga and anime's use of shōnen-style characterizations despite it technically being a BL josei. So come join Amanda and Patrick as they jump into romance with the boys in the band! Warning! This episode contains spoilers for the first season of given and the corresponding issues of the manga.

CONTENT WARNING: this episode discusses child pornography, the pornography industry, sex addiction and potential suicide. Actress and playwright Maddie Corman became brave because she had to be. It was crisis time. About seven years ago her husband was arrested for downloading images of child sexual abuse material* (legally known as child pornography). And while it's important to point out that he never went further in any way, that shocking act would forever change their lives. Maddie wrote and starred in a one-woman play called Accidentally Brave that depicts the horrors and terrible loneliness she experienced in those early days, years and even now. But she has continued to fight for her marriage, protect her family and heal herself one day at a time. Maddie says there is opportunity when your life blows up. In today's podcast, we talk with Laurisa Paul, a Registered Nurse, EBB Pro Member and founder of Girls Who Know® about her journey towards teaching girls what they need to know and respect about their bodies. Laurisa was the winner of our EBB Pro Member September Circle Community challenge, where she won the opportunity to have her work featured on the podcast. I am excited to share my conversation with Laurisa where she talks about her passion for helping others love themselves fully and feel their inherent worth and power. Laurisa resides in Texas where she is a mother of five and an outdoor adventurer. Medically trained, Laurisa stumbled across home birth when she was actively seeking to improve her own birth experiences and since then she has worked as a midwife assistant. Laurisa is a mother of five, a writer, a Registered Nurse, home-birther and midwife advocate. She has a deep passion for diversity and a profound respect for people and their story. She is a lover of outdoor adventure and dreams of being a world traveler and story catcher. In this episode, she discusses her own journey to motherhood and the experiences from her five births, ranging from high intervention births in a hospital to unmedicated and low intervention homebirths. Each experience shaped who she has become as a mother and as a nurse catapulting Laurisa into her passion of working with the next generation and educating high school students about the physiology of birth, not just how to prevent pregnancy. Laurisa is the founder of the organization Girls Who Know, which inspires girls to love who they are and to know and respect their bodies. Girls Who Know prepares girls with what they need to know to make courageous, informed decisions for their lives. In this episode we talk with Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class graduate, Leah Bergman about her experiences navigating a recommended 38-week induction due to a diagnosis of Intrauterine Growth Restriction. Leah Bergman is a new mom and has recently made the decision to leave her full-time job as a church musician to be able to dedicate more time to her family and raising her daughter. When she's not involved in music or busy with the baby, Leah enjoys cooking, knitting, coloring, sewing, and going on walks with her husband, Gunnar, and dog, Winnie. In this episode Leah shares how she was inspired by a friend to read Babies are Not Pizzas and on the recommendation of her midwife found the EBB Childbirth Class. Leah and her husband were planning for birth with as few interventions as possible, until an ultrasound showed signs of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). In collaboration with their midwifery team, they pivoted their plans and began to prepare for an induction at 38-weeks. Leah walks us through the difficulties in trying to make informed, evidence-based decisions about pregnancy and how they opted to induce at 38-weeks. Additionally, Leah shares her long two-part induction story and insights into how she was able to use the EBB Childbirth Education to advocate for herself during her induction and after delivery. Despite not having the birth she was originally planning, Leah reminds us that with education and preparation, you can achieve the positive and empowering birth you want, even if it isn't what you originally expected.
