We wrap up our series of classic holiday films with It's a Wonderful Life - the timeless tale from Frank Capra that proves no man is a failure who has friends. We'll hear three of its stars - Jimmy Stewart, Sheldon Leonard, and Thomas Mitchell - in Suspense thrillers, an old time radio recreation of the movie, and a bonus spoof courtesy of The Jack Benny Program. Thomas Mitchell is a tycoon with more than business on his mind in "Case History on Edgar Lowndes" (originally aired on CBS on June 8, 1944). Sheldon Leonard is a professional killer in "Feast of the Furies" (originally aired on CBS on July 11, 1946). And Jimmy Stewart is a man who finds the chance to escape his humdrum life in "Consequence" (originally aired on CBS on May 19, 1949). Then, Stewart and co-star Donna Reed reunite in a Lux Radio Theatre presentation of the film (originally aired on CBS on March 10, 1947). And finally, Jack Benny learns what the world would be like if he'd never been born - with a guest appearance from director Frank Capra (originally aired on NBC on February 2, 1947).

"The Plague" is a psychological drama-thriller film written and directed by Charlie Polinger in his directorial debut, starring Everett Blunck, Kayo Martin, Kenny Rasmussen, and Joel Edgerton, who is also a producer. The film follows a socially anxious 12-year-old boy who is pulled into a cruel tradition at an all-boys water polo camp. The film had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for its direction, writing, and performances from its young stars, receiving three Film Independent Spirit Award nominations for Best Feature, Best Lead Performance (Everett Blunck), and Best Breakthrough Performance (Kayo Martin). For a star, showiness comes with a price. The most massive stars are far brighter than their punier cousins. But they live much shorter lives. An example is Alpha Camelopardalis. It’s the third-brightest star of Camelopardalis, the giraffe. It’s dimmed by its great distance – about 5500 light-years – so you need a dark sky to see it. Even so, it’s one of the most remote stars visible to the eye alone. The star is impressive. It’s more than 30 times the diameter of the Sun, and almost 40 times the Sun’s mass. Because of that great heft, Alpha Cam “burns” through the nuclear fuel in its core in a big hurry. That makes its surface tens of thousands of degrees hotter than the Sun’s, so the star shines blue-white. The combination of size and temperature makes Alpha Cam more than 600,000 times brighter than the Sun. The price for that showiness is a short lifespan. Stars like the Sun live for billions of years. But Alpha Cam will stick around for only a few million years. So even though it’s only about two million years old, its days are numbered. Before long – astronomically speaking – it will expire. Just how it will go out isn’t clear. Its core may collapse to form a black hole, with its outer layers exploding as a brilliant supernova.
