A music podcast brought to you by Area 22 Productions. Join Steve, Reu, and Hunter as they discuss musical artist, The Dear Hunter, among others in depth featuring guests from the community and interviews with the artists themselves.
On episode ten, we're joined for the second-first time by the great and powerful Nick Sollecito of The Dear Hunter to talk about the new concept series from the band, The Indigo Child, as well as living life in a quarantined world, the symbiotic relationship of the rhythm section, an as-of-yet unrealized electro-funk project, his old metal band, cringe-worthy TV shows and how to write a bad character, beer brewing, and much more.
Day too many of quarantine: Our heroes emerged from their virus-proof bunker, in which they had vowed to stay until they finished the arduous task of analyzing their most formidable album yet. Their skin pulled tightly across the bones of their hands, raised like pale shields against the glaring of the early spring sun. Expelling the first fresh breath they had in four months, the three looked around at the world they were to become a part of once again. Armed with only their dreams and a flash drive containing a brand new episode, the three set off, six feet abreast, toward the horizon and what awaited the Dear Apparition Podcast. On episode 9, we set out to tackle the macabre landscapes of The Dear Hunter's Act III: Life and Death. As always, we get into the nitty gritty of the sprawling story the band has laid out, including the moral implications of war, the most poisonous of MacGuffins, trysts gone long unspoken, patricide, identity theft, and all sorts of other happy, fun themes. And you can all have a few hot takes and wild theories, as a treat. Follow us to be among the first to see the exciting things we have coming up, including more album breakdowns, bonus clips/minisodes, live album commentaries, and interviews with Nick Sollecito, Erez Bader, and many more. As always, thank you so much for listening. We love having the opportunity to do this. We hope this episode finds all of you and yours in good health and circumstances. Remember to practice proper social distancing and quarantine yourselves whenever possible, perhaps while binging your favorite podcast (with a fox head logo).
On episode eight, we're joined by the elusive Rob Parr of The Dear Hunter to discuss releasing new music as Apres Vous, the evolutionary language of music, playing with As Tall As Lions, the state of progressive music, soccer, and much more.
In the ancient times of the year 2019, thousands of new albums were released. How can one possibly keep up? What should you listen to? What should you avoid? Luckily, we've got you covered. With our tenacious willpower and iron resolve, we listened to hundreds of albums and have curated the best and the worst for your consideration. Among the many we discuss are albums by 100 gecs, Devin Townsend, CHON, Rammstein, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Pedro the Lion, Billie Eilish, Jacob Collier, Bring Me the Horizon, OWEL, Thank You Scientist, Periphery, Nova Charisma, Snarky Puppy, The Jon Hill Project, Carly Rae Jepson, and many more. We also talk about the current state of "prog" and our opinions on how the genre has evolved and where it should go in the future.
On episode six, we're joined by Nick Weber of True Name Music to unpack the dense and formidable Act II: The Meaning of, & All Things Regarding Ms. Leading, the sophomore release from The Dear Hunter. We discuss the story of Act II, whether or not Hunter is a reliable narrator, the thematic parallels between Ms. Terri and Hunter, how the album works as a self contained narrative, and much more. As a bonus, we exchange some hot takes, decimate Hunter's emotional process, and speculate endlessly.
On episode five, we travel into the distant past of early October to have a therapy session with the great and powerful Max Tousseau to discuss video games, anime, virtual reality, the role of fate and luck in his musical career, his music with Arc Type Set, future music trends, and more. There's a chance he may also provide the meaning of life, reveal the location of Jimmy Hoffa, and give a comprehensive strategy to achieve world peace. You'll just have to listen to find out.
This episode, we continue our conversation with Gavin Castleton by discussing gear, dream creative projects, making music on Mars, how to effectively practice and set yourself up for success, movies and TV, tour horror stories, Craigslist scammers, pressing his classic albums to vinyl, and much more.
On episode three, we take another short break from our album breakdowns to have a chat with prolific hip hop and progressive rock artist, Gavin Castleton. Join us as we discuss his solo albums Home and Grace Land, his upcoming record, musical and personal inspiration, the bursting bubble of streaming services, and the upcoming The Dear Hunter tour. Stay tuned for part two!
