To snowy Ontario, Canada for our 2026 Christmas Special! Living out the dream of countless exhausted women, Laura Lee Davidson retreated to an island in the middle of a lake, and lived there alone through a long Canadian winter. But she wasn't really alone. Wild creatures became her friends, and she was constantly the recipient of neighborly kindness from folks on the mainland. Laura Lee's 1922 book about her winter on the island is now considered a classic of Canadian literature, and a vivid portrait of time gone by. Katie reads some of her favorite excerpts from the book, and we all tag along with Laura Lee Davidson, retreating into a remote winter solitude, and marveling at the wonders of nature. ___________________________________ Find Laura Lee Davidson's A Winter of Content HERE, or read a digital copy HERE.

Join Horizon at the 11 a.m. Exploring Service for COOKING UP CHRISTMAS, revealing that the birth of Jesus is a true account, not just some cooked-up tale.

This CG episode got the complete audio upgrade and revision to achieve the cleanest sound ever for the podcast series effective 22 June 2025 using the new technology at Chris Williams' Podsworth. This episode examines civil war manifesting itself in the world in the west in the 21st century and some of my modest forecasts of war weather in the next few years. Dr. David Betz and others have started to float the balloons of probability and possibility of civil kinetic conflict in the West. My Storming America Series covers the gamut of what a spontaneous attack in the US will look like when terror cells launch a simultaneous attack on the US homeland which in my mind is the primary man-made vector for civil war in America. I cover it in Episodes 37, 41-43, 49-50 and 62 of my Chasing Ghosts podcast. In this in-depth episode, Brandon Robinson, CEO and co-founder of Horizon Aircraft, joins host Jason Pritchard to discuss one of the industry's most compelling hybrid-eVTOL programs: the Cavorite X7. A former CF-18 fighter pilot and experienced aerospace innovator, Brandon offers a rare combination of technical clarity and operational insight. He begins by unpacking Horizon's recent full-wing transition flight milestone with its large-scale X7 demonstrator — an achievement he describes as “beautifully boring,” meaning exceptionally safe and predictable. He explains why Horizon's simple, retractable ducted-fan architecture avoids the complexity and risk of tilt-rotor and tilt-wing designs, offering a robust platform built for real-world operations. The conversation dives into the hybrid-electric powertrain at the heart of the X7. Brandon details why pure-electric solutions fall short for long-range missions, and how the X7's turbine-battery hybrid enables four times the range, twice the speed of comparable eVTOLs, self-charging capability, and all-weather operation — including anti-icing and IFR flight, a major differentiator in the market. Safety and reliability take centre stage as Brandon outlines the aircraft's deep redundancy, from isolated ducted fans to durable electric motors that dramatically reduce maintenance. The result: up to 75 per cent lower operating cost per mile compared to helicopters, while flying twice as fast. Looking ahead, Robinson shares an encouraging update on Horizon's certification roadmap, the clarity gained from mature regulatory frameworks, and the company's collaboration with Cert Center Canada. He also offers an honest assessment of industry-wide technical and regulatory risks, and why many competitors are now quietly shifting toward hybrid architectures.

Each Sunday a specific dish will be prepared: smoked salmon canapés, potato pancakes, tri-color herbed bread, shepherd's pie, and Polish Angel Wings, with each one relating to that week's exploration of the Nativity narrative. Join Horizon at the 11 a.m. Exploring Service for COOKING UP CHRISTMAS, revealing that the birth of Jesus is a true account, not just some cooked-up tale.

Chris Whalen, chairman of Whalen Global Advisors and author of The Institutional Risk Analyst blog, joins The Julia La Roche Show for "The Wrap with Chris Whalen." Whalen breaks down what's ahead for the Federal Reserve and financial markets as we head into 2026. He discusses Kevin Hassett as the likely next Fed Chair, explaining why Fed independence is more myth than reality and how political pressures will influence rate decisions ahead of the midterm elections. Whalen analyzes the upcoming FOMC meeting, commercial real estate risks, and why he's not concerned about an imminent market crisis despite ongoing concerns about the Treasury market and credit conditions. He also tackles why the Fed's 2% inflation target may be outdated and explains the K-shaped economy that has consumers and investors feeling divided about the recovery.
