We're on Patreon! Find us at https://www.patreon.com/AudioUnleashed This week, Brent and Dennis begin with a discussion about the design and manufacture of high-end audio cables courtesy of Secrets of Home Theater & High Fidelity. How much art is there to appreciate? How much science is there to check? And most importantly, which aspects of the article pissed off our curmudgeonly duo the most? Speaking of being pissed off, Brent has a bone to pick with Erin Hardison over his most recent video about flat frequency response. You don't want to miss that. And finally for most listeners this week, Dennis finally gets to do an entire segment about King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, thanks to an AI clone of the band that popped up on streaming services. Did this whole story somehow prove that Google is more evil than Spotify? Perhaps!

Sam's had a big year and now he gives Matt and all the listeners his top 12 songs of 2025!We open with punchy rock and bass-heavy pop, shift into raw confessionals, and close with orchestral EDM that practically lifts you out of your seat. The throughline is contrast: songs that hype you up, songs that make you think, and songs that do both without breaking a sweat. We kick off with Wet Leg's sharp-tongued ode to overcrowded city life and swing into Blackpink's high-gloss momentum, built for big speakers and bigger moods. From there, NF's “Fear” brings unfiltered honesty about relapse into anxiety, while King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard bend genres with big band brass and 70s sparkle. Logic's “Not a Game,” elevated by Lucy Rose's airy hook, threads grit with grace; AJR's “The Big Goodbye” hooks you with an auctioneer loop and a look back at what you leave behind when you chase a dream. The mid-list heat spikes with Lindsay Stirling and Shuba's “Evil Twin,” a violin-meets-EDM surge that belongs on every pre-run playlist, then deepens with Florence and the Machine's “Witch Dance,” a visceral reflection on mortality and power. Jenny's “Like Jenny” delivers chorus-first pop engineered for pure joy, while Maiah Manser's “With a Smile” introduces siren-core chills over a sleek electronic bed. Lil Wayne's “Welcome to Tha Carter” blends choir, sample wizardry, and razor wit, asking whether we ever pause to savor heaven after clawing through hell. We close with “Lazarus Rise,” a cinematic ascent from haunted piano to full orchestral thunder—a reminder that genre walls are meant to be climbed.Subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a five-star review to help more music lovers find the show.https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/sams-best-of-2025/pl.u-dok7jCBkWPg6Catch these fists – Wet Leg Jump – Blackpink Fear – NF Phantom Island – King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Not a Game – Logic featuring Lucy Rose The Big Goodbye – AJR Evil Twin – Lindsey Stirling featuring Shuba Witch Dance – Florence and the Machine Like Jennie – Jennie With a Smile – Maiah Manser Welcome to Tha Carter – Lil Wayne Lazarus Rise – Wasiu & Apache Support the showVisit us at https://www.superawesomemix.com to learn more about our app, our merchandise, our cards, and more!

Time: ~33 min. It's Episode 80! This week I'm diving into the biggest news shaking up the music world, and I'm sharing some great independent music with you. First, the good news: the UK government has cracked down on ticket scalping, making it illegal to profit from reselling tickets. But there's drama, too: the rise of AI music clones hit Spotify hard when a fake account copied King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's music, and I discuss what this means for independent artists. On a more positive AI note, I cover how rapper Beanie Sigel is using AI technology to bring back his classic voice. Plus, I talk about Billy McFarland's latest, the PHNX Festival, which actually happened, and I share my top Instagram marketing tips for musicians! In this episode of Seeing Them Live, Charles and Doug welcome back Andy, a school teacher and avid live music fan, to share his an After Show Report on the 2025 Bonnaroo Music Festival. Despite carefully planning his trip with his friend Teddy and driving nine hours to the festival, Andy faced a series of unexpected challenges and adventures. The trip kicks off with a tense interaction with law enforcement when they are pulled over by a Kentucky State Trooper, escalating as a K-9 unit arrives. Fortunately, they are allowed to proceed to Bonnaroo without any legal troubles.Upon arrival, Andy and Teddy set up their elaborate campsite, which included modern amenities like a solar generator and 42-inch TV. The first night involved acclimatizing to the youthful crowd and loud electronic dance music that played until the early hours. Things took a dramatic turn when Teddy experienced a sudden medical emergency and had to leave, promising to return later to pick Andy up. Later, a severe storm brought torrential rains and flooding, leading to the cancellation of the entire festival due to infrastructural failure. Despite disappointment, Andy encountered numerous acts of kindness from fellow festival-goers and eventually managed to get back home safely, albeit with a vivid, unforgettable experience.BANDS: Dogs in a Pile, Eurythmics, Foster the People, Goose, Insane Clown Posse, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Lemon Twigs, Luke Combs, Marcus King, Miranda Lambert, Parisi.VENUES: 2025 Bonnaroo Music Festival. It has been a hot minute since the last installment of a discography-series episode dropped, and I couldn't be happier than to share that I was able to convince Sammy Sanchez to join me for a breakdown of the King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard catalog.Sammy and I go all the way back to Two Thousand and Twenty-Two, when I met him for the first time after having his awesome father, Cesar, sit down with me to talk music and life.I've gotten to know Sammy via these (now five total) podcast conversations, and that lane of my life is richer for it.In our initial conversation, we talked LCD Soundsystem, Pink Floyd, and Tom Waits. Our second installment peeked into the Tom Waits discography. We did a Beck episode, and a Radiohead episode, and now...it's Kay Gee & the Elle Double-you, baby! How does one attempt to describe King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard? Well...they're an Australian rock band that has broken the mold of prolific studio recordings. In short, they formed in 2010, and have dropped 30 records in that span, and no, there are no typos in this sentence.Thirty records!Beyond that, you just have to see for yourself. They can get heavy. They sometimes journey. And -- from time to time -- they jam. Here's the collection (to the best of our knowledge):Willoughby's Beach (2011)12 Bar Bruise (2012)Eyes Like the Sky (2013)Float Along -- Fill Your Lungs (2013)Oddments (2014)I'm in Your Mind Fuzz (2014)Quarters! (2015)Papier Mache Dream Balloon (2015)Nonagon Infinity (2016)Flying Microtonal Banana (2017)Murder of the Universe (2017)Sketches of Brunswick East (2017)Polygondwanaland (2017)Gumboot Soup (2017)Fishing for Fishies (2019)Infest the Rats' Nest (2019)Chunky Shrapnel (2020)K.G. (2020)L.W. (2021)Butterfly 3000 (2021)Butterfly 3001 (2022)Ominium Gatherum (2022)Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava (2022)Made in Timeland (2022)Laminated Denim (2022)Changes (2022)Petro Dragonic Apocalypse (2023)The Silver Cord (2023)Flight b741 (2024)Phantom Island (2025)And there you have it. And in case you were curious, yes, that was exhausting to type and italicize. So, yes, I can imagine how you totally didn't read it at all.Regardless, Sammy and I motored through the thing and did so (in my estimation) with some sense of efficiency; we didn't dawdle and we certainly didn't speed.Needless, to say, I hope there's a way for some folks to find this conversation enjoyable, be they K.G. & the L.W. fans or not. It was certainly fun and rewarding to do it.Many thanks to Sammy for his knowledge and his energy, and thank you to all of you that support the show.Cheers.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained in this episode (or any other, for that matter). Top musicians are taking their music off Spotify and leaving the platform behind – but why? Kiwi musicians like Tiki Taane and The Bats have joined overseas acts like Deerhoof and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard in boycotting the platform, accusing it of exploitation, poor royalties, and subsidising big international acts. As it stands, each stream earns an artist around one-twentieth of a New Zealand cent. Tech commentator Paul Spain told Mike Hosking artists are making a fair point, as Spotify has been increasing their prices, but not artist payouts. Alex is finally back, he mourns the losses of rock royalty, talks about how King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard won't be collecting royalties, and brings light to how venues are royally screwing DJS.

In which The Curmudgeons take a big ol' dukey on that most prominent of rap-metal bands Limp Bizkit. The band is surely one of the worst hard-rock outfits to make it big since cranking up guitars real loud became a thing. Its plodding, uninspired riffage was eclipsed only by its misogynistic, corroded worldview and ultra-dumb lyrics. We dive into the rock's dregs here, analyzing the band's origins as well as its first four albums, all of which are awful. It all begs the question: How the heck did Limp Bizkit get so huge, anyway? We attempt to answer that question. Marvel in horror at the awful music of Limp Bizkit by accessing out Spotify plylist for the episode: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5s6kczKDwbpVDYt3DoTiaD?si=f88d0b956bcf4120 Here's a handy navigation companion to this episode. From Lorde's triumphant return to The Doobie Brothers teaming up with Mavis Staples, May's releases signal the perfect start to summer's soundtrack."What Was That" by Lorde kicks off what many are calling a "Lorde summer," with the New Zealand artist returning to the sound that made her famous. Her stripped-down, melodic approach to examining a relationship's end showcases her unique vocal abilities without unnecessary flourishes. Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus continues her winning streak with "End of the World," an anthemic pop masterpiece with nostalgic 80s vibes reminiscent of The Go-Go's and The Bangles.Star Wars fans have reason to celebrate with two May 4th releases that demonstrate the holiday's growing cultural significance. Labyrinth's "SWMF" and Apache's remix of John Williams' iconic "Duel of the Fates" showcase how orchestral elements can blend seamlessly with electronic production – bridging centuries of musical evolution in single tracks. The mix continues with The Jonas Brothers' "Love Me to Heaven" and Turnpike Troubadours' introspective "Heaven Passing Through," which reminds us to treasure life's fleeting moments. Amine brings summer vibes with "Vacay," while legendary artists The Doobie Brothers prove they've still got it alongside Mavis Staples on "Walk This Road."For alternative music fans, The Minus Five delivers "happy rock" with "Words and Birds," Turnstile bends genres on "Never Enough," and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard experiments with orchestral sounds on "Phantom." The collection closes with Wavves' energetic Travis Barker-produced surf rock on "Goner."Whether you're planning your summer playlist, seeking graduation anthems, or simply exploring what's new in music, this diverse collection captures artists at different points in their creative journeys, all delivering tracks worthy of repeated listening. Parmi les nouveautés, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard dévoilent "Deadstick", tandis que Sleep Token présente "Caramel", extrait de "Even In Arcadia".
