Today on the podcast I am joined by Ciaran of the Pyschy Prog Punk band, DUMB POSH HIPPIES!I'll be chatting to Ciaran about how this band started, how they formed their sound, the origins of their hilarious band name and how their one of the few bands I know of releasing remixes of their singles. The band have just released two new singles, DOOMER & SCUMBO, which were released in April and will be the primary focus of this episode!A band I discovered recently, I'm thoroughly enjoying this band so having Ciaran on to chat about the band was so much fun. Myself and Ciaran went down many different lanes in this podcast, including our love of the DOOM games, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and a bizarre story involving CMAT.DUMB POSH HIPPIES will be supporting Outsound on their Ouroboros album launch tour tomorrow in Sin E, playing alongside Angry Chairs. Tickets are 5 euro and are available through Eventbrite.DUMB POSH HIPPIES on InstagramOutsound album launch at Sin EUncultivates live at Lost LaneShortest Straw in Sin E!Spaced W/ Dry Socket live at Lost Lane Hosted on Acast. Very pleased to welcome Sammy Sanchez back in to the podcast studio for another exciting look at an artist's discography, and this time -- for Episode No. 213 -- we dove in to the Queens of the Stone Age catalog. If you've not caught previous episodes with Sammy, you can check him out on Episode Nos 44 (first appearance), 66 (Tom Waits), 88 (Beck), 113 (Radiohead), and 187 (King Gizzard & the Wizard Lizard). And if you wanna know how that train got rollin', check out Episode No. 30 with his dad, Caesar, which was also a fun time.Queens of the Stone Age has eight records to date, each one different than the previous. They are:self-titled (1998)2000's Rated RSongs for the Deaf (2002)Lullabies to Paralyze (2005)2007's Era Vulgaris...Like Clockwork (2013)Villains from 20172023's In Times New Roman...Sammy and I talked about a bunch of stuff across this chat, and beyond QotSA albums, we touched on Pink Floyd, the World Cup, the ever-awesome Phil Collins, and more.In this case, more means a bunch of different things, but I'd like to focus specifically on his growing local empire of trivia nights, which has sprung from once a week to Sunday-Thursday affairs, all in different locations. Follow Sammy on Instagram at @sammysanchez1123 and peep his bio to see the spots.Always grateful for Sammy's time and insight. Couldn't do this series without him.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained within this episode. Get Away From Me (I Think I'll Love You Soon)'. We are finally returning to one of the most formative albums to The Album Concept Hour. Without it, who knows, we may have been swept up in an alternate timeline and become different versions of ourselves. Fortunately, fate has deem it necessary for us to continue this foolhardy endeavor, at least until our own universe is murdered or our world set on fire. But enough about us! This album is about the infamous Han Tyumi and his journey through time and space and life and so much more. It's the album that hold the Gizzverse together and we're finally diving in DEEP. So I hope you studied because class is in session. Episode Links:The Best Horror Pod In Philly "Holy Mountain" episode (feat. For the 100th episode of their show "How We Heard It," the podcast team is giving you the music artists who give 100 percent. Musicians are like any other group of workers. Some are tireless - endlessly productive, relentlessly creative or both. Others fill the status quo, doing what might be expected, sometimes a little more and sometimes a little less. Still others are just plain lazy, pushing their work off on others, making excuses why they can't do more and invariably disappointing their supporters, time and time again. It's not about talent, it's about effort. This week "How We Heard It" is all about effort. While other artists might knock out a new album every few years, these artists are producing twice that output. Or while other artists are sticking to their established style (same themes, same sound), these super-producers are constantly exploring new ways to express themselves, tweaking and reinventing their art as they go and challenging their followers to keep up. The same goes for live shows: Some artists are constantly on tour, giving their all on stage night after night. Others rarely tour - and when they do, they just phone it in. Not surprisingly, effort and success don't exactly overlap. (Life is never fair, is it?) Some of the most ordinary artists generate the biggest sales, draw the most fans and win the most awards while some extraordinary artists struggle on the edge of obscurity. Yet every now and then, the brightest and hardest working artists will be among the most popular. Where do your favorites rank? "How We Heard It" takes a look at everyone from Bob Dylan and Elton John to Kenny Chesney and Adele to Taylor Swift and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Their conclusions might surprise you.
Hey Talkhouse listeners, this week, I'm throwing you a rerun from a while back, but whose wisdom hasn't dimmed since 2018 when it was recorded. It's a great conversation between Steve Albini and Devo's Jerry Casale that was captured backstage at the Desert Days Festival. I grabbed this one from the archive because we recently passed the 2nd anniversary of Albini's untimely death, and there was a great Rolling Stone piece about his legacy that got me thinking. He was a very smart, sometimes controversial guy, always opinionated, but always thoughtful. Check it out and we'll see you with a new episode next week. —Josh Modell, Host of the Talkhouse Podcast The Talkhouse Podcast recently headed out to the fantastic Desert Daze festival at Moreno Beach at Lake Perris in Southern California. When we weren't catching sets by Tame Impala, King Gizzard, and My Bloody Valentine, we recorded a trio of great talks; this week, we present the first. When I saw that both Steve Albini and Devo's Jerry Casale were going to be at Desert Daze giving talks, I knew we had to pair these two icons of alternative music. They're big fans of each other's work, and halfway through their conversation, Steve said, “This is the sort of stuff no one ever talks about. These are the questions I've had for 30 years.” Their fascinating talk takes in the beginning years of Devo's existence; their complex relationship with Neil Young; Brian Eno's proclivity for ménage à trois; the differences between poker and making records; and how the name Devo became a category alongside jocks, squares and nerds. Welcome to the second annual Seeing Them Live Year End Concert Review show, where a panel of returning guests shares their favorite live music experiences from 2025. Host Charles brings together an eclectic group of music enthusiasts including award-winning documentary filmmaker Eric Green, podcast host Jessica Catena, nurse practitioner Summer, antique shop owner Art Gregg, executive assistant Dawn Fontaine, accountant Steve Pothel, high school teacher Andy, and producer Doug Flozak to discuss the concerts that defined their year.Eric Green kicks off the discussion with an impressive lineup that showcased both legendary side projects and emerging talent. His year began with Close Enemies featuring Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton at City Winery Boston, followed by Kim Deal's solo tour at the Wilbur Theater. He caught Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fame doing an intimate VH1 Storytellers-style performance, and witnessed Shane Hawkins honoring his late father Taylor Hawkins with Chevy Metal at Brighton Music Hall. Eric also saw the Joe Perry Project's supergroup lineup featuring Chris Robinson and Robert DeLeo, enjoyed a nostalgic double bill of Billy Idol and Joan Jett at the Xfinity Center, caught the rising stars Wet Leg at a packed Roadrunner Boston show, experienced Jeff Tweedy's multigenerational band at Royale, and closed out his year with Throwing Muses at the new Racket venue in New York City.Jessica Catena attended three memorable indoor concerts that kept her dry after previous years of rain-soaked shows. She saw young jazz sensation Samara Joy at the newly renovated Ridgefield Playhouse in Connecticut with her uncle, experienced the Broadway spectacle of Moulin Rouge featuring Wayne Brady and Taye Diggs with updated contemporary songs, and capped off her year at iHeartRadio's Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden, where she saw Ed Sheeran, Laufey, and a diverse lineup of pop and folk artists while dealing with some challenging sightlines.Summer's concert year included the intimate Metro show with Bridget Calls Me Baby where her son met the bass player's parents, a record-breaking night at Lollapalooza featuring Olivia Rodrigo's surprise Weezer collaboration, an energetic Yungblud performance at the Riviera that included some crowd drama, and a unique operatic interpretation of Smashing Pumpkins' Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness at the Lyric Opera of Chicago during a snowstorm.Art Gregg had a remarkable year highlighted by three unforgettable shows. He saw childhood hero Burton Cummings of The Guess Who at the North Shore Center for Performing Arts after accidentally meeting him in the lobby without recognizing him, caught Michael Schenker's 50 Years with UFO celebration at the Desplaines Theater, and scored a last-minute ninth-row ticket to see Robert Plant at the intimate Vic Theatre, where the Led Zeppelin legend performed six classic songs including an electrifying version of Ramble On that earned a rare standing ovation.Charles rounds out the discussion by mentioning his own concert experiences at new Chicago venues including Space in Evanston where he saw Mdou Moctar and The Old 97s, the female-focused Motoblot festival at Beat Kitchen, an incredible Buddy Guy performance at the Rialto Square Theater where the 89-year-old blues legend walked through the aisles playing guitar, shows at the new Garcia's venue and City Winery, and his anticipation for an upcoming Iron Maiden show. The episode concludes with a teaser for part two, which will feature Dawn's private jet experience with the Rolling Stones, Andy's Bonnaroo adventure, and Steve's concert highlights.BANDS: Aerosmith, Alex Warren, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Belly, Benmont Tench, Billy Idol, Black Crows, Black Sabbath, Bob Dylan, Bridget Calls Me Baby, Burton Cummings, Chapel Rowan, Chevy Metal, Close Enemies, DJO, Dogs in a Pile, Ed Sheeran, Elastica, Elastica, Elvis, Foo Fighters, Foghat, Foster the People, Gary Newman, Generation X, Gigi Perez, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, Jeff Tweedy, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Joe Perry Project, Johnny Cash, K-pop band Monsta X, Katy Perry, Kim Deal, King Gizzard, Laufey, Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin 2, Liz Fair, Mdou Moctar, Metallica, Michael Shanker, Miles Smith, Ministry, Neil Young, Nelly, Nine Inch Nails, Olivia Rodrigo, Ozzy Osborne, Pixies, Psychedelic Furs, Radiohead, Robert Plant, Rolling Stones, Runaways, Samara Joy, Sarah Larson, Shonen Knife, Smashing Pumpkins, Soraia, Stone Temple Pilots, Taylor Hawkins, The Babies, The Beatles, The Black Crows, The Boudines, The Breeders, The Guess Who, The Old 97s, The Police, The Scorpions, The Velvet Underground, Throwing Muses, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, UFO, Van Halen, Walk the Moon, Wayne Brady, Weezer, Wet Leg, Wilco, Wrought Iron Soul, Yungblud.VENUES: Aragon Ballroom, Barclays, Beat Kitchen, Box Center Wang Theater (Boston), Brighton Music Hall (Boston), City Winery (Boston), City Winery (Chicago), Credit Union One Amphitheater, Desplaines Theater, Garcia's, Grant Park, Great Woods (Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts), House of Blues, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Madison Square Garden, Metro, North Shore Center for Performing Arts (Skokie, Illinois), Penn Station, Racket (New York City/Chelsea), Ravinia, Rialto Square Theater, Ridgefield Playhouse, Riviera, Roadrunner Boston, Royale (Boston), Salt Shed (Chicago), Sonia (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Space (Evanston, Illinois), Thalia Hall, Tweeter Center, Vic Theatre (Chicago), Wilbur Theater (Boston), Wrigley Field, Xfinity Center (Mansfield, Massachusetts). We're on Patreon! Find us at https://www.patreon.com/AudioUnleashed This week, Brent and Dennis begin with a discussion about the design and manufacture of high-end audio cables courtesy of Secrets of Home Theater & High Fidelity. How much art is there to appreciate? How much science is there to check? And most importantly, which aspects of the article pissed off our curmudgeonly duo the most? Speaking of being pissed off, Brent has a bone to pick with Erin Hardison over his most recent video about flat frequency response. You don't want to miss that. And finally for most listeners this week, Dennis finally gets to do an entire segment about King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, thanks to an AI clone of the band that popped up on streaming services. Did this whole story somehow prove that Google is more evil than Spotify? Perhaps!

Sam's had a big year and now he gives Matt and all the listeners his top 12 songs of 2025!We open with punchy rock and bass-heavy pop, shift into raw confessionals, and close with orchestral EDM that practically lifts you out of your seat. The throughline is contrast: songs that hype you up, songs that make you think, and songs that do both without breaking a sweat. We kick off with Wet Leg's sharp-tongued ode to overcrowded city life and swing into Blackpink's high-gloss momentum, built for big speakers and bigger moods. From there, NF's “Fear” brings unfiltered honesty about relapse into anxiety, while King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard bend genres with big band brass and 70s sparkle. Logic's “Not a Game,” elevated by Lucy Rose's airy hook, threads grit with grace; AJR's “The Big Goodbye” hooks you with an auctioneer loop and a look back at what you leave behind when you chase a dream. The mid-list heat spikes with Lindsay Stirling and Shuba's “Evil Twin,” a violin-meets-EDM surge that belongs on every pre-run playlist, then deepens with Florence and the Machine's “Witch Dance,” a visceral reflection on mortality and power. Jenny's “Like Jenny” delivers chorus-first pop engineered for pure joy, while Maiah Manser's “With a Smile” introduces siren-core chills over a sleek electronic bed. Lil Wayne's “Welcome to Tha Carter” blends choir, sample wizardry, and razor wit, asking whether we ever pause to savor heaven after clawing through hell. We close with “Lazarus Rise,” a cinematic ascent from haunted piano to full orchestral thunder—a reminder that genre walls are meant to be climbed.Subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a five-star review to help more music lovers find the show.https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/sams-best-of-2025/pl.u-dok7jCBkWPg6Catch these fists – Wet Leg Jump – Blackpink Fear – NF Phantom Island – King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Not a Game – Logic featuring Lucy Rose The Big Goodbye – AJR Evil Twin – Lindsey Stirling featuring Shuba Witch Dance – Florence and the Machine Like Jennie – Jennie With a Smile – Maiah Manser Welcome to Tha Carter – Lil Wayne Lazarus Rise – Wasiu & Apache Support the showVisit us at https://www.superawesomemix.com to learn more about our app, our merchandise, our cards, and more!

Andy Frasco's World Saving Podcast archive episode with Cameron Winter, lead singer and songwriter of Geese. Cameron discusses touring with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, growing up in New York, and forming Geese as kids at Brooklyn Friends School. He reflects on how the band planned on quitting after high school until they signed with Partisan Records. They also discuss Cameron's solo record Heavy Metal and how it pushed him in new creative directions. We also ask the question on the mind of all jam band nerds: Is there beef between Geese and Goose?
In this episode of Seeing Them Live, Charles and Doug welcome back Andy, a school teacher and avid live music fan, to share his an After Show Report on the 2025 Bonnaroo Music Festival. Despite carefully planning his trip with his friend Teddy and driving nine hours to the festival, Andy faced a series of unexpected challenges and adventures. The trip kicks off with a tense interaction with law enforcement when they are pulled over by a Kentucky State Trooper, escalating as a K-9 unit arrives. Fortunately, they are allowed to proceed to Bonnaroo without any legal troubles.Upon arrival, Andy and Teddy set up their elaborate campsite, which included modern amenities like a solar generator and 42-inch TV. The first night involved acclimatizing to the youthful crowd and loud electronic dance music that played until the early hours. Things took a dramatic turn when Teddy experienced a sudden medical emergency and had to leave, promising to return later to pick Andy up. Later, a severe storm brought torrential rains and flooding, leading to the cancellation of the entire festival due to infrastructural failure. Despite disappointment, Andy encountered numerous acts of kindness from fellow festival-goers and eventually managed to get back home safely, albeit with a vivid, unforgettable experience.BANDS: Dogs in a Pile, Eurythmics, Foster the People, Goose, Insane Clown Posse, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Lemon Twigs, Luke Combs, Marcus King, Miranda Lambert, Parisi.VENUES: 2025 Bonnaroo Music Festival. Record nerd Harry Portnof started Greenway Records, revived Reverb Appreciation Society, and now leads Levitation's label operations - today we discuss the elaborate vinyl variants and the clear passion for music the Levitation festival inspires. Topics Include: Harry Portnof runs Greenway Records, Levitation, and Reverberation Appreciation Society labels. Dad blasted southern rock and Allman Brothers at excessive volumes throughout childhood. Discovered dad's CD collection, dove deep into classic rock discographies. Taught himself guitar in high school after getting kicked off tennis team. Found grandmother's records in attic with broken turntable playing in mono. Mesmerized by grooves holding information, felt more futuristic than digital files. Got Project turntable in college, started seriously collecting vinyl records. College dorm had file sharing programs to download everyone's music collections. Became obsessed with seven-inch singles and exclusive B-side hunting on Discogs. Studied accounting, got CPA, worked Manhattan while spending money on records. Brooklyn DIY scene 2010-12: Death by Audio, Glasslands, 285 Kent venues thriving. Third Man Records inspired with collectible releases, impossible to get from New York. Playing in surf rock cover band The Midnight Snacks around Long Island. Started Greenway with friend Joey's pop punk band, 300 hand-screened seven-inches sold. Online forum of ten new labels supporting each other, Greenway only one remaining. Artist Dan Curran created lino cut covers for first thirty Greenway releases. Met LA Witch outside Music Hall, promised European tour records in two months. LA Witch success led to more touring bands wanting Greenway releases. Met Levitation founder Rob Fitzpatrick backstage at Desert Daze festival in California. Pandemic hit, launched Levitation Sessions producing concert films with thirty bands. Suddenly working with dream artists like Ty Segall and The Oh Sees. Levitation started as Austin Psych Fest in 2008, became major three-day festival. Flash flood disaster canceled festival one year despite bands and fans arriving. Austin's psych legacy rooted in 13th Floor Elevators and Rocky Erickson era. Levitation Sessions are filmed concerts; Live at Levitation are actual festival recordings. King Gizzard bootleg program allows labels to press their live shows freely. Learned vinyl manufacturing hands-on at New Jersey plant, experimenting with color pours. Most proud of Frankie and the Witch Fingers KEXP recording for Record Store Day. Market tightened post-pandemic, had to adjust pressing quantities and strategy accordingly. Creates regional variants for Australia, UK, EU retailers using Precision Record Pressing. It has been a hot minute since the last installment of a discography-series episode dropped, and I couldn't be happier than to share that I was able to convince Sammy Sanchez to join me for a breakdown of the King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard catalog.Sammy and I go all the way back to Two Thousand and Twenty-Two, when I met him for the first time after having his awesome father, Cesar, sit down with me to talk music and life.I've gotten to know Sammy via these (now five total) podcast conversations, and that lane of my life is richer for it.In our initial conversation, we talked LCD Soundsystem, Pink Floyd, and Tom Waits. Our second installment peeked into the Tom Waits discography. We did a Beck episode, and a Radiohead episode, and now...it's Kay Gee & the Elle Double-you, baby! How does one attempt to describe King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard? Well...they're an Australian rock band that has broken the mold of prolific studio recordings. In short, they formed in 2010, and have dropped 30 records in that span, and no, there are no typos in this sentence.Thirty records!Beyond that, you just have to see for yourself. They can get heavy. They sometimes journey. And -- from time to time -- they jam. Here's the collection (to the best of our knowledge):Willoughby's Beach (2011)12 Bar Bruise (2012)Eyes Like the Sky (2013)Float Along -- Fill Your Lungs (2013)Oddments (2014)I'm in Your Mind Fuzz (2014)Quarters! (2015)Papier Mache Dream Balloon (2015)Nonagon Infinity (2016)Flying Microtonal Banana (2017)Murder of the Universe (2017)Sketches of Brunswick East (2017)Polygondwanaland (2017)Gumboot Soup (2017)Fishing for Fishies (2019)Infest the Rats' Nest (2019)Chunky Shrapnel (2020)K.G. (2020)L.W. (2021)Butterfly 3000 (2021)Butterfly 3001 (2022)Ominium Gatherum (2022)Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava (2022)Made in Timeland (2022)Laminated Denim (2022)Changes (2022)Petro Dragonic Apocalypse (2023)The Silver Cord (2023)Flight b741 (2024)Phantom Island (2025)And there you have it. And in case you were curious, yes, that was exhausting to type and italicize. So, yes, I can imagine how you totally didn't read it at all.Regardless, Sammy and I motored through the thing and did so (in my estimation) with some sense of efficiency; we didn't dawdle and we certainly didn't speed.Needless, to say, I hope there's a way for some folks to find this conversation enjoyable, be they K.G. & the L.W. fans or not. It was certainly fun and rewarding to do it.Many thanks to Sammy for his knowledge and his energy, and thank you to all of you that support the show.Cheers.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained in this episode (or any other, for that matter). This week we're diving into why bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor and King Gizzard are pulling their music from Spotify - and why it probably won't change anything. It's a trickier situation than it seems, but the whole mess starts with Napster in 1999. 80 million people sharing MP3s illegally crashed the music industry, dropping revenue 15% in four years and creating a chain reaction that led to piracy running rampant for much of the 00s. Enter Daniel Ek in 2006 with Spotify, which was built initially using pirated music from The Pirate Bay, telling you everything about how much they value artists. But it worked. By offering free access to entire music catalogues (with ads), Spotify created something no competitor can match without hemorrhaging money. Today, 412 million people use Spotify's free tier. That's the foundation of their dominance - not the 263 million paying subscribers. But this creates an impossible situation for artists. Big names with established fanbases can afford to leave, but new artists risk invisibility. Record labels and promoters judge bands by Spotify monthly listeners and post-gig discovery relies on easy music access, meaning that pulling your music from this platform could be potentially damaging for their careers. The "just use Bandcamp" argument misses the point - it's a different business model entirely. Bandcamp is buying a car; Spotify is hiring any car you want. And as it turns out, a LOT of people prefer hiring now. But the real problem isn't Spotify - it's "technofeudalism." Tech platforms operate like medieval fiefdoms where users become trapped serfs. Artists complain about Spotify royalties while creating free content for Instagram and TikTok, which monetise their labour through surveillance capitalism. The arms investment angle (Daniel Ek's €600m in AI weapons) sounds damning until you realise Google runs military AI projects for Israel, Meta builds battlefield AR for the US military, and all big tech props up the military-industrial complex. Their conclusion is bleak: there's no way out. The market expects free music and won't change. Mass boycotts might work but won't happen. The only real solution is direct artist support - gigs, merch, Bandcamp purchases, because it's almost impossible for anyone to truly extricate themselves from terrible machinery of the current internet era. In episode 278 of the podcast, we're joined by prolific drummer, and all around awesome guy, Jay Weinberg. We dig into all kinds of different territory with Jay. Touring with Suicidal Tendencies in support of the almighty Metallica, going from playing the massive stage to the club scene in the same week, how he approaches writing/playing as a new member of a band, how playing with Bruce Springsteen in place of his dad Max helped to shape his view of family, music, and so much more. Jay rules, and this convo was a blast. Keep an eye out for Jay's drum clinics, playing King Gizzard's ‘Field of Vision' in August, and new music he's working on. We dig into all of that here as well.Photo Credit: Carly Butler (IG: @ylracbutler)Follow Jay here: Web: https://www.jayweinbergofficial.com/IG: @jayweinbergPodcast theme performed by Trawl.
