A Garland, Texas native, Billy began his professional career at just 12 years old, playing in Texas' longest-running Opry House. In 2012, he landed a spot at the Guitar Center Drum Off grand finals, leading to a tour with country legend Neil McCoy. Billy moved to Nashville in 2013, and has been with Dustin Lynch ever since. Will Healey is a pianist and composer who plays multiple genres of music including classical, jazz and hip hop. In 2023 he won the Leonard Bernstein Prize from the ASCAP Foundation. He has performed at venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. His arranging credits include works for the New York Philharmonic and the Albany Symphony. He is the artistic director and founder of ShoutHouse, a group of hip-hop, jazz, and classical musicians. As a pianist, he has performed solo recitals in the United States and abroad. He also plays piano and synthesizers in the Pathos Trio, an award-winning metal-influenced chamber group. El año comienza con música viva y sentido colectivo. Pascuala Ilabaca & SdC Big Band llegan al Teatro Municipal de Viña del Mar para presentar en vivo El Secreto de los Arbustos, un trabajo que nace del cruce, la escucha y el cuidado mutuo, y que podrá disfrutarse el domingo 11 de enero a las 20:00 horas, en un concierto con entrada liberada previa reserva. Luego de un recorrido por Santiago y la Región de Valparaíso, este proyecto aterriza en la ciudad jardín con un espectáculo pensado como una experiencia compartida, donde la canción, el jazz y la emoción dialogan sin etiquetas rígidas, en un formato de gran orquesta pero con espíritu íntimo. UNA OBRA QUE SE TEJE DESDE EL INTERCAMBIO El Secreto de los Arbustos, estrenado en plataformas digitales en noviembre pasado, fue trabajado de manera paralela por José Moraga y Pascuala Ilabaca, quienes compusieron de forma independiente para luego ir entrelazando ideas junto a la orquesta. El proceso se construyó desde el intercambio constante, respetando las identidades musicales de cada parte y permitiendo que cada composición encontrara su lugar dentro del conjunto. “Hubo mucho feedback al momento de hacer los arreglos, cuidando la esencia de las composiciones de Pascuala y nuestra propia visión musical”, comenta José Moraga, director de la SdC Big Band. “El montaje con la orquesta fue un trabajo de joyería, sin descuidar ningún detalle, buscando un alto nivel interpretativo y expresivo”. El resultado es un disco de once composiciones que cruzan lenguajes diversos y proponen una búsqueda colectiva arriesgada y sensible, alejándose del jazz más tradicional para abrirse a nuevos climas y narrativas. POESÍA, CONTEXTO Y MIRADA CONTEMPORÁNEA “Este disco habla mucho de lo que estaba viviendo ese verano en que comenzamos a trabajar; una temporada de adrenalina, cambio y revolución interna”, señala Pascuala Ilabaca. Esa energía se refleja tanto en la sonoridad como en la poesía del álbum, que aborda realidades que muchas veces quedan fuera de la mirada cotidiana —como la situación de calle o la ocupación palestina—, pero también espacios más íntimos como el erotismo o la contemplación de la naturaleza. La cantautora explica que su motivación fue traer ritmos y melodías ajenas al jazz y fusionarlas con el color y la cultura de la big band, un camino que dialoga con la relación que ha ido construyendo con el género en los últimos años y con colaboraciones junto a artistas como Andrea Motis y Snarky Puppy. It's a positive, upbeat song with a reggae beat about the pleasures that we get from everyday events in our lives.“Lou's Blues” is my Jazz Fusion tone poem. I wrote it in the studio and we recorded it in one take.“The Gift” took my love song ballad and was transformed by Michael Abene, Grammy winning arranger, into a big band samba. David Bedford and Andrew Phillips are Beatles experts and the authors of “WHAT IF?”, which discusses a number of hypothetical scenarios where The Beatles story could have turned out very differently. This is an Encore Presentation of my October 2021 interview with Joey Dee, star of Joey Dee and the Starlighters. Joey wrote and sang “The Peppermint Twist”, a #1 song in 1962 that became part of the worldwide “twist” dance craze phenomenon. He and the band were the house band at The Peppermint Lounge in NYC, where people lined up each night to get in to rub elbows with the stars of that era including Jackie Kennedy, Judy Garland and John Wayne. Inbal Segev is a virtuoso Israeli-American cellist. She has been characterized as “a cellist with something to say”. She's performed with the Helsinki, Dallas and London orchestras among many others. She frequently commissions and champions new works. Her playing can be heard in the 2005 movie “Bee Season” starring Richard Gere and Juliette Binoche. One of her newest projects in “I'm Nobody! Who Are You?”, an Emily Dickinson setting for unaccompanied women's choir. Shawn Okpebholo is a Grammy Nominated Nigerian-American classical composer. He combines his classical training with his African roots. His music has been described as “devastatingly beautiful” and “fresh, new and fearless”. He was named 2024 Chicagoan Of The Year in classical music. He's won numerous awards. His music has involved themes of Negro Spirituals and stories of enslaved resistance and resilience. He's had commissions from the Chicago Symphony, the United States Air Force and others. Terry Gibbs is a legendary jazz vibraphonist. He's 100 years young. He played with most of the greats in jazz music beginning in the Bebop era of the 1940s, including Benny Goodman, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Charlie “Bird” Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. He's won 3 major jazz polls, and he's recorded 65 albums, his last when he was 94. My featured song is not one of mine in this instance. Robert Pinsky is a Rock Star Poet! He's the 3x United States Poet Laureate. He's won many awards and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. As Poet Laureate he created the “Favorite Poem Project” where everyday Americans would select and read poems they admired by the greats including Emily Dickinson and Langston Hughes. He's performed with Bruce Springsteen and performed poetry with world class jazz musicians.
