Send us a textCommercial animal photographer, akashic records reader, certified hypnotist, and animal communicator Grace Chon returns to the Soul Level Human podcast for an update about everything that's happened over the last year.Sleep paralysis. Spoon bending. Demons in dreams and dogs that see through the veil. Oh, and motherhood in 2025! This isn't your average friend hang—it's a raw, soul-deep convo about claiming your power, protecting your energy, and waking the hell up to who you really are. We talk lucid dreaming, spiritual boundaries, soul contracts with our animals, and the not-so-glamorous path of real inner work. Your guides are talking. Your dog might be too. Are you listening?P.S. This one goes out to the mothers—of children, of movements, of healing legacies.
Full Crosses' Rig Info: https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundown/crossesSubscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeWhat if Deftones' lead singer Chino Moreno fully leaned into his love for the Cure and Depeche Mode—think “Digital Bath,” “Teenager,” “Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event,” and “Cherry Waves?” The short answer is Crosses (often seen as †††). And the sole sonic sniper pillowing and piercing through Moreno's moodily melodic vocals is multi-instrumentalist Shaun Lopez. Crosses was formed by cofounding members Lopez and bassist Chuck Doom in the late 2000s before recruiting Chino Moreno to front the dark dance party. The trio released three EPs and a self-titled debut album between 2011 and 2014 before going on hiatus in 2015. For almost 15 years, the nucleus of Shawn Lopez and Chino Moreno have creatively layered and disguised guitar and synth combining new wave, electronica, goth rock, industrial, and ambient pop producing a soundtrack to neo-noir readaptation of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly that subs the old west and gunplay with after-hours Miami and foreplay.“When we started Crosses, I was just learning to play piano. I think back then I wanted to make synthy-sounding songs, but I didn't know how to play synths so I was like, ‘how can I get my guitar to sound like a synth,' so I just incorporated pedals, lap steel, and anything to make my guitar unrecognizable,” admits Lopez.Prior to working with Moreno in Crosses, Lopez cofounded Far—an influential post-hardcore 1990s contemporary of the Deftones in Sacramento—and has tallied a variety of producer credits collaborating with Chon, Rob Zombie, Lupe Fiasco, Dead Sara, Whitechapel, and others. That sort of versatility is evident when experiencing Crosses with a pair of headphones or seeing them perform onstage. Throughout the band's run, Lopez has interplayed and interwoven guitar and synths countering brooding against beauty and gentle versus tense. When Crosses was revitalized in 2022 with fresh material—and the departure of bassist Chuck Doom—the remaining duo doubled down on their digital-based dynamism featuring even more synths, keys, and electronic experimentation where he would even sample his guitar through his keys. “Since those first songs, I've really learned how to play piano and keyboards and by better understanding that new instrument, at times, I've become more inspired by synths over guitar,” recalls Lopez. But no matter how many synths or keyboards get put to tape, you'll still see Lopez onstage with a guitar draped over his shoulder.“I do prefer to play guitar live because it's more fun and I can run around. I am always chasing sounds no matter the instrument it takes to get there. My sound is growing because I'm always learning. I think if you stop learning you stop progressing. but guitar will always be home,” states Lopez.Prior to Crosses' sold-out show at Nashville's Marathon Music Works, Lopez welcomed PG's Perry Bean onstage to dissect his setup. The lone instrumentalist showed off six stellar guitars, broke down the heavy lifting his FM9 endures for Crosses' sets, introduced a peculiar pedal he can't live without, and demonstrated a Gretsch that sounds like an angry orca. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Why Yudkowsky is wrong about "covalently bonded equivalents of biology", published by titotal on December 6, 2023 on The Effective Altruism Forum. confidence level: I am a physicist, not a biologist, so don't take this the account of a domain level expert. But this is really basic stuff, and is very easy to verify. Recently I encountered a scientific claim about biology, made by Eliezer Yudkowsky. I searched around for the source of the claim, and found that he has been repeating versions of the claim for over a decade and a half, including in "the sequences" and his TED talk. In recent years, this claim has primarily been used as an argument for why an AGI attack would be extremely deadly. I believe this claim is factually incorrect. The quotes: I'm going to show the various versions of the claim I found below, with the relevant sentences bolded: To plausibly argue that "humans" were intelligently designed, you'd have to lie about the design of the human retina, the architecture of the human brain, the proteins bound together by weak van der Waals forces instead of strong covalent bonds Yudkowsky discussing the flaws of evolutionary design, in "the sequences" blog post "dark side epistemology". It was obvious years before Nanosystems that molecular nanomachines would in fact be possible and have much higher power densities than biology. I could say, "Because proteins are held together by van der Waals forces that are much weaker than covalent bonds," to point to a reason how you could realize that after just reading Engines of Creation and before Nanosytems existed. Yudkowsky discussing AI interventions on the alignment forum. A lot of the advantage of human technology is due to human technology figuring out how to use covalent bonds and metallic bonds, where biology sticks to ionic bonds and proteins held together by van der Waals forces (static cling, basically) Comment on a post discussing technology and AI. Algae are tiny microns-wide solar-powered fully self-replicating factories that run on general assemblers, "ribosomes", that can replicate most other products of biology given digital instructions. This, even though the proteins are held together by van der Waals forces rather than covalent bonds, which is why algae are far less tough than diamond (as you can also make from carbon). It should not be very hard for a superintelligence to repurpose ribosomes to build better, more strongly bonded, more energy-dense tiny things that can then have a quite easy time killing everyone. Yudkowsky's example scenario for how an AI could extinct humanity, on twitter Can you build your own synthetic biology, synthetic cyborgs? Can you blow straight past that to covalently bonded equivalents of biology where instead of proteins that fold together and are held together by static cling, you have things that go down much sharper potential energy gradients and are bundled together, people have done advanced design work about this sort of thing. Yudkowksy's Ted talk, again discussing AI capabilities, during the Q&A section. I broadly endorse this reply and have mostly shifted to trying to talk about "covalently bonded" bacteria, since using the term "diamondoid" (tightly covalently bonded CHON) causes people to panic about the lack of currently known mechanosynthesis pathways for tetrahedral carbon lattices. Yudkowsky's response to my recent article a few weeks ago, talking about how to refer to potential advanced nanotechnologies. Summarising the claim As you can see, Yudkowsky has repeated this claim several time over a time period spanning 15 years to just a few weeks ago, in very high profile contexts. These quotes all make roughly the same argument, which I will sum up as follows: Proteins are held together by weak van-der-waals forces, which are weak forces, akin to static...

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: "Diamondoid bacteria" nanobots: deadly threat or dead-end? A nanotech investigation, published by titotal on September 29, 2023 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Confidence level: I'm a computational physicist working on nanoscale simulations, so I have some understanding of most of the things discussed here, but I am not specifically an expert on the topics covered, so I can't promise perfect accuracy. I want to give a huge thanks to Professor Phillip Moriarty of the university of Nottingham for answering my questions about the experimental side of mechanosynthesis research. Introduction: A lot of people are highly concerned that a malevolent AI or insane human will, in the near future, set out to destroy humanity. If such an entity wanted to be absolutely sure they would succeed, what method would they use? Nuclear war? Pandemics? According to some in the x-risk community, the answer is this: The AI will invent molecular nanotechnology, and then kill us all with diamondoid bacteria nanobots. This is the "lower bound" scenario posited by Yudkowsky in his post AGI ruin: The nanomachinery builds diamondoid bacteria, that replicate with solar power and atmospheric CHON, maybe aggregate into some miniature rockets or jets so they can ride the jetstream to spread across the Earth's atmosphere, get into human bloodstreams and hide, strike on a timer. The phrase "diamondoid bacteria" really struck out at me, and I'm not the only one. In this post by Carlsmith (which I found very interesting), Carlsmith refers to diamondoid bacteria as an example of future tech that feels unreal, but may still happen: Whirling knives? Diamondoid bacteria? Relentless references to paper-clips, or "tiny molecular squiggles"? I've written, elsewhere, about the "unreality" of futurism. AI risk had a lot of that for me. Meanwhile, the controversial anti-EA crusader Emille Torres cites the term "diamondoid bacteria" as a reason to dismiss AI risk, calling it "patently ridiculous". I was interested to know more. What is diamondoid bacteria? How far along is molecular nanotech research? What are the challenges that we (or an AI) will need to overcome to create this technology? If you want, you can stop here and try and guess the answers to these questions. It is my hope that by trying to answer these questions, I can give you a taste of what nanoscale research actually looks like. It ended up being the tale of a group of scientists who had a dream of revolutionary nanotechnology, and tried to answer the difficult question: How do I actually build that? What is "diamondoid bacteria"? The literal phrase "diamondoid bacteria" appears to have been invented by Eliezer Yudkowsky about two years ago. If you search the exact phrase in google scholar there are no matches: If you search the phrase in regular google, you will get a very small number of matches, all of which are from Yudkowsky or directly/indirectly quoting Yudkowsky. The very first use of the phrase on the internet appears to be this twitter post from September 15 2021. (I suppose there's a chance someone else used the phrase in person). I speculate here that Eliezer invented the term as a poetic licence way of making nanobots seem more viscerally real.
