Friday Late Show is a podcast about bombing on stage, because every comic has done it! We trade stories and advice about bombing and what to do to prevent it. Featuring comedians from all over the country, some of your favorites you've seen on TV and on national tours.
In this episode, we have Steve Guy (Cleveland Comedy Festival). I met Steve when i first started comedy here in Cleveland. He was the first guy that i met with an actual weekly booked show. He was also apart of some really quality and organized show around town, so it's no shock that he's running the Cleveland Comedy Festival now. We also talk about the comedy fest post-quarantine and whats that going to look like. We also trade a few stories about the good old days. hahaha. Enjoy the show Support this podcast
On this episode, we have Vince Morris (HBO's Def Comedy Jam, Comedy Central). Vince Morris is a guy I heard about the second I got into comedy. A friend told me that I needed to watch Vince live if I ever wanted to get better. And he wasnt wrong. From the first time i talked to Vince in a comedy club, he's been dropping jewels to me. From how to conduct myself off stage with other comedians and club staff, to the correct persona to have on stage as well. Vince has be a mentor and friend of mine for years, so it was a pleasure to talk to him about comedy and soak up some more advice. Enjoy the show. Support this podcast
Welcome back! This is the start of season 2 and I couldn't have a better guest for the premiere, my good friend, Rob Ward (Comedy Central, "Parental Advisory" comedy album out now). Rob and I started comedy in Cleveland around the same time, so we have a ton of stories to share and arguments to have. We debated "green room etiquette", how local comedians could improve, and a few good bombing stories. The episode was ending for 30 minutes, but that's how it gets when you're catching up with a friend. The only reason we ended this episode was we had to get home to our kids before it got too late. Hahahaha. I hope you have as much fun listening as we did talking. Enjoy. On this episode, we have Clayton English (Last Comic Standing, Wild 'N Out). I met Clayton at the Pittsburgh Improv. He's a very well traveled and hilarious comedian. He just moved to LA, by way of Atlanta, and he's been on damn near everything on TV. And with all that success, Clayton shares the best stories about what people think about him. Get on TV once and people think you're a millionaire. Not the case when you're a comedian. Hear the other side of comedy, off stage. Enjoy the show. Support this podcast
On this episode, I got Clark Jones (Comedian, Writer "Run The World", and Podcaster "Classic Black Dude"). When i met Clark when he was still hosting Comedy at the Knitting Factory in New York City. He's originally from Chicago and is now a writer in LA. In his travels, he's seen a ton of comedy, good and bad alike. It was great to hear words of wisdom about dealing with crowds and finding your voice to be funny. Enjoy the show. Support this podcast
On this episode, I get to shoot the shit with one of my favorite people, Jimmie Graham (Accidental Comedy Fest). I've seen Jimmie out in the Clevealnd comedy scene from the day he started. He would always stand out because of how much he commits to his bits. The confidence and fearlessness he has on stage and even off stage is amazing. That style doesn't come easy so of course, the stories are plentiful. Enjoy. Support this podcast
On this episode, we have Bobby Jaycox (I Just Woke Up podcast). Me and Bobby met at the Flyover Fest in St. Louis a few years ago, and we clicked like little kids at summer camp! The guy is fucking hilarious and a joy to talk to. He's such a positive guy, so it was fun to hear him talk about bad shows. He's worked with some of the greats so enjoy the stories and laughs. On this episode we have Ramon Rivas II (HBO, Comedy Central). Me and Ramon go back to when I started stand up and he had a weekly open mic in a coffee shop. We discussed how race has impacted our careers, and how the optics of diversity have their pros and cons. Enjoy. Support this podcast
This episode features Rodney Perry (The Mo'Nique Show and Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family). Rodney is the guy to know! Everytime we talk he puts me on to something new. From how to produce a show to how to handle social media, he's always been a great sounding board. This episode is no different. Enjoy the show Support this podcast
This episode features Mia Jackson (Comedy Central). She's from Atlanta, GA, which is the mecca for black comedy. I had the luxury to meet her in Cleveland at the Accidental Comedy Fest a few years ago. Mia is so got damn funny, whether on stage or regular conversation. She's so polite while telling a hilarious story about a bomb she witnesses. You'll definitely enjoy this one. Support this podcast
This episode features Brian Tidwell aka BTidy. Me and Brian started comedy around the same time in Cleveland. Over the years, we've become good friends.. and like most friends, we shit talk our peers. We trade our own war stories and some of historic bombs we've witnessed. This episode features Mike Head ("With This Ring" Lifetime, LaughTV, touring comedian). Boy let me tell you, this is the greatest bomb story ever told! Mike Head and me have been friends since ive started comedy, and im so grateful that he opened up and talked about this particular bomb. This was so crazy, even John Armstrong stopped by the studio and heard the story firsthand too. I wont give anyway anymore about the episode. Listen already. Support this podcast
This episode features Mary Santora (cohost on Alan Cox Show on iHeart Radio). Mary and me have been working together for years. This episode features Ms Pretty Ricki (Laff Mobb's Laff Trax and Laff Mobb's We Got Next). I've known and worked with Ricki for years, and her very unique comedy journey has always fascinated me. Especially with her being a CLEAN comic! That's right, Ms Pretty Ricki doesn't cuss on stage, AT ALL. And in our industry, not using profanity is harder than just saying fuck it. Hahaha. We also explore how the road has treated Ricki and how she feels about being one of the only girls in the boy clubhouse. Support this podcast
This episode features Bill Squire (The Alan Cox Show and iHeart Radio). Squire and me are really good friends and even host a crowd work comedy show together in Cleveland. So we've seen our share of some great bombs. Plus Bill tells me his side of the story on a "urban legend bomb" he had here in Cleveland years ago. Support this podcast
