Born Patricia Louise Holte in 1944 in Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the woman we know as Patti LaBelle was raised in a large family as the second-youngest of five children. Her father worked on the railroad and performed in clubs, while her mother was a domestic worker. From a young age, Patti found solace and purpose in music — she joined her church choir at age 10 and by 12 was singing solo. Her early life wasn't easy. The marriage of her parents was troubled, and after her parents separated when she was 12, she experienced deep personal trauma. Yet despite hardship, she held onto music — both for comfort and as an outlet — listening to jazz, R&B and gospel as she grew up.In her mid-teens Patti began dreaming of making music beyond the church. By 1960, she formed a girl group called The Ordettes with friends at school. The next year members changed and the group evolved into Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles — soon to become simply Labelle in the '70s. The Bluebelles enjoyed moderate success: in '62 they scored a Top-20 hit. Later, they found acclaim covering classics like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” In the '70s Labelle's sound evolved. The group embraced funk, soul, and rock — culminating in the '74 smash hit Lady Marmalade. The song and its style cemented their place in music history. But amidst growing fame, internal tensions and changing musical landscapes led to the group's split in '77. That difficult moment became the launchpad for Patti's solo journey. Patti's debut solo album, simply titled Patti LaBelle, came out in '77. Her true breakthrough came mid-'80s. A string of hits turned Patti into a household name. 1986's album Winner in You — featuring the duet On My Own with Michael McDonald — topped U.S. charts and solidified her commercial success. In the '90s Patti continued to release albums. She earned a second and sold tens of millions of records worldwide.Patti's talents reach far beyond singing. Over the decades she's dabbled in acting and is also a successful author. Her 1996 memoir Don't Block the Blessings: Revelations of a Lifetime gives insight into her hardships, faith and perseverance. She later penned cookbooks, launched a food brand with frozen comfort foods, and her signature sweet-potato pies.Today Patti LaBelle shows no signs of slowing down. In 2024, she marked her 80th birthday by announcing a brand new album titled 8065 — a tribute to her 80 years alive and 65 years in show business. She's also hit the road with the “8065 Celebration Tour,” which will take her to audiences around the world — including stops planned for Australia and New Zealand early in 2026.At 81, Patti remains a powerhouse performer. Her message to fans? Age is just a number — and she's proof. Reflecting on her decades-long career, she recently said she feels blessed to still be “standing” — able to sing, walk, and create. Her fans, across generations, couldn't agree more. From “The Ordettes” to Stardom, this episode details the rise and rise of the legend we knowas Patti Labelle.Catch her on tour here:Jan 16 Rancho Mirage, CA, United StatesJan 17 Thunder Valley Casino Resort Lincoln, CA, Jan 20 Riverside Theatre Perth, AustraliaJan 22 Palais Theatre St Kilda, Jan 24 Adelaide Entertainment Centre Jan 25 Sydney Event Centre Jan 28 The Star Gold Coast Jan 30 The Civic Auckland, New ZealandFeb 12 Jacksonville, FL, Feb 13 Charlotte, NC, United StatesFeb 15 St Louis, MOFeb 19 New OrleansFeb 20 Houston, TXFeb 22 Fort Worth, TXMar 14 Westbury South, NY

When the Chashmonaim entered the Beit HaMikdash, they had every reason to despair. It was in shambles, and it seemed like all of the oil had already been defiled. And then, one moment of extra effort changed history. They discovered one jug of pure oil. That single moment of discovery brought about eight days of light, which in turn produced thousands of years of spiritual illumination for Am Yisrael. Furthermore, they knew they had only enough oil for one day. They could have easily said, what is the point? Anyway, they were going to be without oil for another seven days until they produced more pure oil. However, they understood the value of every effort when it comes to mitzvot. We never say, why bother? Every bit of effort is precious to Hashem. When a person acts l'shem shamayim, Hashem generally blesses his efforts, allowing them to reach far beyond anything he could have imagined. A man whom we will call Joe told me that six years ago, when he was about sixty, his job forced him to relocate to a new city. He had lived his entire life completely devoid of Torah and mitzvot. But with hashgachah pratit, the new city he moved to had a large population of religious Jews. One morning, everything seemed to be going wrong, and he felt he needed to clear his head, so he went out for a bike ride. After riding four miles, a large, magnificent building caught his eye — a recently built shul. He felt it might make him feel better to go inside, so he walked in and decided to sit for a while. When he entered, he saw a minyan in progress and sat quietly in the back, wearing shorts and a T-shirt, simply observing the tefillah. His attire and the fact that he was an out-of-towner drew some attention, but most people continued naturally with their tefillah. Afterward, one man approached him with a warm smile and said hello. He then asked Joe if he would like to put on tefillin. At first, Joe resisted, but then he accepted. It was the first time he had put on tefillin since his bar mitzvah nearly fifty years earlier. He described feeling something incredibly powerful — indescribable — and he began to cry. The man then asked him if he would return the next day to put on tefillin again, and Joe agreed. Without telling him, the man went and purchased a pair of tefillin for Joe. Joe came back the next day, put them on, and once again felt uplifted. The man then introduced him to a website, itorah.com , where thousands of shiurim are available for people on all levels. Joe thanked him and said he would listen. A few weeks later, that same man saw Joe riding his bicycle, this time wearing a kippah and listening to a Torah class. It was an astonishing sight — someone who had never lived a religious life was now proudly wearing a kippah in public. Since then, Joe has learned and completed five masechtot of Gemara, and today he learns every morning for about three hours in a local yeshivah. His wife also became religious, and he says he has never been happier. He now recognizes how much his neshamah was starving for Torah and mitzvot. He sees clearly how the hashgachah of Hashem guided every step: the forced relocation to a religious city, the difficult morning that led him to ride his bike, the inexplicable pull to enter a shul despite his attire, and finally, the one individual who made a small extra effort to say hello and invite him to put on tefillin. He often wonders how different his life would have been without that moment. A little extra effort goes a very long way, especially when we are acting l'shem shamayim.

Is your "swag" secretly hurting your brand? In this episode of Sales & Cigars, Walter sits down with Eric Turney from The Monterey Company to talk about why your promo gear should do more than just check a box—it should actually say something about your brand. Eric shares his unconventional path from construction, to almost becoming a physical therapist, to "falling backward" into sales and eventually buying the company he worked for. He and Walter dig into the real differences between being a great salesperson and being a great sales manager, handling customers who only care about price, and why saying "no" is sometimes the most professional move you can make. They also get into the nuts and bolts of branded merch: why quality matters, how to help clients think beyond cheap t-shirts, and what the pandemic and shipping chaos taught Eric's team about communication, margins, and long-term customer loyalty. If you've ever ordered promo products for an event, trade show, or team—and regretted it—this one's for you. In This Episode: College vs reality – Why what you learn in college has almost nothing to do with building wealth or becoming an entrepreneur. Rich Dad, Poor Dad mindset – The books that shifted Eric's view of money, business, and long-term wealth creation. From construction to custom merch – How a layoff, a false start in physical therapy, and a new baby on the way pushed Eric into sales at The Monterey Company. Learning sales on the fly – Word tracks, repetition, and what he learned from a top car salesman buddy. The Dutch Bros lesson – Why consistently great experience beats mediocre product—and how Eric trains his reps to "bottle" that. Salesperson vs sales manager – Why being good at selling doesn't automatically make you good at leading a sales team—and what Eric had to learn the hard way. Needing to be liked – Staying up late worrying about orders, over-promising, and the shift from "pushover" to respected advisor. When to say no – Recognizing problem customers, setting boundaries, and why "if they come for price, they'll leave for price." Niche focus – How Monterey naturally gravitated to government, military, and public service clients—and what those buyers really need. Helping the real decision-maker – Working with marketing coordinators and event planners who are tasked with buying merch but don't know where to start. The Core Four sales process – Call leads quickly, text often, quote fast, and get an art proof in front of the customer ASAP. COVID, ports, and tariffs – Container costs jumping 10x, shipping delays, switching to air freight, and choosing to eat margin to preserve long-term relationships. Quality vs cheap – Why spending 20–50% more can result in a 10x better product—and how that shows up in customer perception. Brand alignment in merch – Walmart polos vs Carhartt gear, why your team's apparel reflects your brand values, and how "one thing is how you do everything." Upselling the smart way – Medals plus shirts, plus stickers; building better event experiences instead of just pushing more product. Lifetime value thinking – Why Eric would rather lose margin on a few orders than lose a great client for good. Cigars & solitude – Eric's "special occasion" approach to cigars and why a great stick pairs well with quiet, not crowds. We start with a victory: Bethany and Brian successfully navigate a conflict without spiraling, turning a sarcastic comment into a moment of repair . Digging deeper, we find the wound fueling Brian's sarcasm: a fear that his daughter is being "segregated" or "dropped," just as he was by an uncle in childhood . Brian shares the pain of feeling like a "test drive kid" who was easily replaced. The breakthrough arrives when Bethany reveals she is fighting the exact same battle—feeling overwhelmed and convinced that she and their baby "don't matter" either . It's a powerful look at how two people can fight for the same thing—significance—while fighting against each other. This week's prompt: Think about a recurring fight you have with your partner. What is the deep, childhood wound that might be getting triggered? Are you fighting to be heard, to be chosen, or to matter? See if you can identify the specific feeling underneath the conflict. Send your responses to this prompt or any questions/comments you have about the podcast via email or voice note to support@thesecureelationship.com. Mayim Bialik has seemingly done it all: she became a beloved teen star on Blossom, earned a PhD in neuroscience, then returned to TV to play a neuroscientist on The Big Bang Theory. She's written books, hosts a popular podcast, and is a mother of two. But after a lifetime of slipping in and out of different roles since the time she was 11, Mayim is taking a step back and asking herself a fundamental question: When you strip away all the identities you've performed, who are you really? In this episode, Mayim shares the soundtrack behind her complicated family history, the angst that shaped her teen years in Hollywood, and the significance of her latest role in the upcoming film Father Mother Sister Brother. It's a wide-ranging conversation about finding love, loss, reinvention, and finding what grounds you. Here are her songs. Send us a textImagine this: you see a patient, orders the labs, do the follow‑up, navigate the complexity, chart the visit, and deliver the care. The work is done. Then someone in the billing department closes the claim with a single click, marking it as “adjusted off.” You never see the revenue. You might not even know it was written off. That's a dollar (or many dollars) you earned but never realized—and it happens way more often than you think.Today we're going to pull back the curtain on one of the quietest, yet most destructive revenue leaks in medical group finance: adjustments—the write‑offs, the staff mistakes, the unmonitored decisions that erode your bottom line. We'll talk about what adjustments are, why many revenue cycle departments don't monitor them, the real cost of uncontrolled write‑offs, and how you can take back control. Sydney Sweeney plays Millie, a desperate woman with a troubled past who is sleeping in […]
Les, Kurt, and Jason finally start recording the podcast after a series of technical mishaps and after an eyeball from Kurt that is so epic it is broken up into a two-parter. Then, we hear about Les' very frantic attempt to attend 7 holiday parties in one night where Jason's party was on the chopping block block. Jason also talks about Rob Reiner's pivotal role in the legalization of same sex marriage, and in throwback Blac Chyna news, Kurt shares a 2023 story about Tokyo Toni screaming about how Alexa won't shut the f**k up. Then, it's time for Lifetime's The Christmas Campaign, a movie that could easily be used as those HR training videos that show you inappropriate scenarios to avoid if it weren't for the presence of Frederick Douglass in a truly wild but well-cast cameo. Speaking of HR, you probably shouldn't listen to this episode out loud at work unless you want your co-workers to hear about Linda Hunt boners, Reindeer Cocoa, and the scotch that is older than the very young participants in a focus group and what they're being exposed to. I have angels in my comment section who report when commenters lose their cool and fly off the handle at me. Most of the time, I delete them. Sometimes I don't. This one sailed through my inbox, and it will finally get this person banned after almost 6,000 comments in three years, and he's not even a paid subscriber. Please excuse the profanity:I can't lie and pretend to be excited for Supergirl. It's not a movie made for me, and I'm not sure I can handle one more girl boss movie, especially one whose tagline is “Truth, justice, and whatever.” Maybe my daughter will like it. But let's move on to the red meat of this, shall we? What is this “non-stop hate binge” I've been on lately? It's true, I have been out in force on X, fighting the wave of what I would define as “hate” aimed at Erika Kirk and Turning Point. It's not something I could or ever would ignore. I'm not built that way, which is how I got into this mess in the first place. I'm Gen-X. We tend to say what we really think. We're not good with the comfortable lies, and we weren't raised to shrink back from conflict. And, like Trump, I have a bit of an impulse control disorder when it comes to social media. If I didn't, my life would never have changed the way it has. I began fighting the Left when I saw how they were dehumanizing the Right, Melania and Ivanka Trump, MAGA supporters, and even Trump himself. It cost me almost everything. Smarter people know how to shut up. They know how to keep their heads down and go along to get along. I've never been that way. I've been online for 30 years of my life, entirely too long. I've wasted years arguing pointlessly on X or Facebook. It is spitting in the wind. It does nothing to change anyone's mind, and it only makes me unlikable and a target. But I can't help it. I don't know how any reasonable person could not be thoroughly disgusted and horrified by Candace Owens and how she has exploited the murder of Charlie Kirk. It's not only dividing the Right, undoing so much of what Charlie did, but it's exposing ugliness and dehumanization on the side I have always defended.I can't help but think Candace is jealous, not of Erika, but of Charlie, his reach and popularity, how beloved he was and is, especially in the wake of his death. So she just decided to steal from him - his legacy, his reputation, his movement, his influence. She did this by co-opting his story and spinning a delusional yarn about what is a fairly open and shut assassination case, one that pins the blame on the fanatical Left. She doesn't need the money. Her husband, George Farmer, is worth between $180 and $200 million, not to mention how much Candace is making by spinning tall tales to feed her audience of mostly bored women who need drama in their lives. Lifetime movies don't cut it anymore because they, like everything else in Hollywood, went “woke.” Even psychological thrillers and romance novels have gone “woke,” as have true crime podcasts. So instead, they follow the snake oil salesman, the huckster, the Barnam and Bailey lying YouTuber down any rabbit hole she chooses to offer up, anything to make it seem like they're involved in some gossipy, dirty, evil secret, that they know something no one else does. It's easier to believe we can control inexplicable horrific tragedies, whether it's the Democrats always blaming guns or it's a faction of the Right always blaming Israel. No, Candace is not doing this for money. She's doing it for that insidious word for the internet age: clout. As long as they're talking about you, as long as you're a trending topic, your clicks and views will rise. You will be highly ranked on the podcast charts, and you'll see that as a success. At least, until it isn't. Who could resist what it must feel like to have millions of people tuning in to hear what scandalous thing you'll say next? How could anyone not become addicted to it and constantly feed the beast, hungry for more? The algorithms have ravaged our brains and nervous systems, and in Candace Owens's case, her morality.True, she needs a new narrative to wipe off the sticky scum of humiliation now that her “Brigitte Macron is really a man” conspiracy collapsed. What better way to pivot away from that and redefine CANDACE? The hatred, bullying, and ugliness aimed at Erika Kirk come from both the Left and the Right. Each side has its reasons for wanting to destroy her and Turning Point. On the Left, it's obvious. Even Barack Obama called Charlie a racist, more or less, in the wake of his death. They can't abide a movement like his that was attracting so many young people. They couldn't just accept the death of Charlie. They had to work every day to kill off his legacy, and that meant going after his widow, Erika. If some on the Left have abandoned their decency and humanity to stay in power, some on the Right are doing it out of a deep-seated hatred of Israel and distrust of the Jewish people. There is no other way to say it. That is the stinking rot that lies in the soul of Candace Owens, what drives her popularity on YouTube and social media, because Jew hate is global. And yes, it's also banal, as Walter Kirn explains here with Matt Taibbi on America This Week. I know what Jewish hate feels like. I am half Jewish on my dad's side, which meant I was never technically Jewish but Jewish enough for the camps. My sisters and I knew that we felt some hesitation saying we were Jewish around some people. It was just something we grew up knowing. What Candace is doing, what so many of her minions are doing, is in service of what I believe is evil and ugly. I don't even think the recent massacre on Bondi Beach would pull any of them out of it, Left or Right.Standing up to Candace Owens and her mob of psychos and sociopaths is no easy task. Almost everyone is afraid of her because she brings out the knives, and she goes for the jugular. Her army of minions will do her bidding like the monkeys in the Wizard of Oz. She will destroy you if she can. Lucky for me, I'm so insignificant she wouldn't bother. But Tim Pool is not insignificant. He has a large platform, and he put it all on the line to stand up and do the right thing. He let her have it in a well-deserved viral rant.He then went on Piers Morgan and explained it even further:Another brave voice is Matt Walsh, who gave, I think, the best and most passionate explanation of why these conspiracy theories are hurtful and damaging to not just Erika Kirk and Turning Point, but to the country, because this madness threatens to destroy the MAGA movement. No one has said it better.I would never have guessed that the two heroes to emerge from this mess would be Tim Pool and Matt Walsh, but here we are. These kinds of moments test all of us. That's not to say people can't criticize Israel, or that the United States should fight Israel's wars or give them money. But this goes deeper, and making this MAGA's biggest political issue is a losing proposition. Here is Carl Cannon of RealClearPolitics, along with Tom Bevan and Andrew Walworth, on the Megyn Kelly show. The “Woke Mind Virus” destroyed the Left, and the “Woke Right Mind Virus” threatens to destroy MAGA if it keeps heading in this direction, as Walter Kirn and Matt Taibbi discuss on America This Week. As I watched the video on Bondi Beach, I thought about Ana Kasparian saying on X, “I would never step foot in Israel.” I think about how Candace Owens will spin this as some false flag operation, and I worry for what's coming next.Humans have been at war for over 90% of our existence. It is in our nature. We will go to war whether it's on social media or in Gaza or Bondi Beach. To fight any war requires dehumanizing the enemy. Once you get there, where even a shot in the neck that kills a husband and a father, makes no difference to you whether you are on the Left or the Right, then you are beyond saving because you have lost your humanity, like the Good Germans in World War II, like the Good White People in the South after the Civil War, like the Puritans in Salem. The Left mocked these Trump supporters for showing empathy and solidarity to Trump after he was shot. They said it was a cult. They laughed at them. But I saw the decent people I've come to know over the past decade. That's the kind of humanity we need. These past ten years have taught me that I will never go along with dehumanizing other people. I'd rather lose everything. The reason I'm here on Substack is the same reason I will lose subscribers for this post. I couldn't do the other thing. I couldn't shut up. If that makes me a “bitter old woman,” then so be it.Here is Frank Turek:We must be brave. We must be decent. We must hold the line. ///Tip Jar This is a public episode. Seems like this isn't the first time Mrs. Clause has run off to an exotic location filled with thirsty dudes. “Finding Mrs. Claus” is one of those movies that exists in a very specific cinematic snow globe, and if you've spent any time in that globe, you already know exactly what you're getting. This is pure Lifetime Christmas programming: wholesome, gentle, slightly artificial, and utterly uninterested in surprising you. It's not bad, not embarrassing, and not particularly memorable—it's just there, humming softly like a string of pre-lit lights you forgot to unplug. The premise is simple and relentlessly pleasant: Santa's been neglecting Mrs. Clause after 500 years of marriage, so she whisks off to Las Vegas to help fulfill a girls dream of her mother finding a new husband. Mira Sorvino brings a level of competence and warmth that slightly exceeds the material, which helps the movie coast along without ever fully collapsing under its own predictability. Everyone involved seems perfectly aware of the assignment and executes it with calm professionalism. Ultimately, “Finding Mrs. Claus” is a textbook example of its genre. If you enjoy Lifetime or Hallmark Christmas movies, this is a pretty good one and will likely deliver exactly the cozy, low-effort holiday vibes you're looking for. If you don't like those movies, absolutely skip this—there is nothing here that will convert you. It's not trying to win over skeptics, and frankly, it doesn't need to.

Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!The most honest look you'll hear at what separates a textbook-certified trainer from a trusted professional. We sit down with Derek, a rising manager at Lifetime, to unpack how he evaluates candidates, coaches a veteran team, and keeps standards high in a premium training environment where members expect safety, clarity, and results. From real-time prospecting on a busy gym floor to programming under pressure, Derek explains why 80% of applicants fail the practical and what the top performers do differently. We walk through his three-stage hiring process, the exact screening questions he wants to hear before a single rep, and the coaching behaviors that build instant credibility: precise cues, smart regressions, and simple anatomy language. Then we dig into pricing and value—why $120–$150 per hour makes sense for general population clients, how to handle “that's expensive” without flinching, and the mindset shift that happens when you invest in your own development through mentors, seminars, and bodywork. If you've ever wondered how to charge more while training fewer sessions, this conversation gives you the playbook.Derek also shares what it's like to lead as a younger manager among seasoned trainers, including fostering a culture of accountability without ego. We talk mentorship as the shortcut to competence, retention as the true metric, and why soft tissue work and recovery sessions drive client loyalty. You'll leave with practical steps to pass a tough practical, communicate your value, and build a six-figure path at a high-standard gym or as a smart freelancer. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a trainer who needs a nudge, and leave a quick review so more coaches can find it. “Gratitude is contagious. It's something that becomes more powerful as you express it. It reminds me of how fortunate I've been — and through that privilege I feel I owe to do what I can for others.”John Pepper, P&G's former Chairman and CEO, needs no introduction. John has played many roles in business, community, service, and the lives of countless people. He returns to our podcast to discuss his new book, "100 Books That Shaped My Life: Reflections on a Lifetime of Reading, " which might just be the perfect gift this holiday season, for yourself or for anyone in your life who loves a good read."100 Books That Shaped My Life" is no mere book list — it is a life story told through the books that walked alongside John: as a husband, father, leader, citizen, and as someone thinking deeply about what matters most in the time we're given. These are the books that shaped John's understanding of history, democracy, gratitude, and hope — especially in the most recent chapters of his life.Moving from Values, to Biographies, Philosophy, U.S. and Global History, Memoirs, Novels, and Personal Essays, 100 Books That Shaped My Life mirrors something true about John himself: a leader shaped not by one discipline, but by a lifelong curiosity across every discipline. In our conversation, John reflects on how a lifetime of reading helped him better live a lifetime — deepening his understanding of friendship, love, loss, courage, service, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.John's literary influences range from novelists like John Steinbeck, Oliver Sacks, Wallace Stegner, Marilynne Robinson, George Orwell, and Tolstoy, to memoirists such as Frederick Douglass, Katharine Graham, James Reston, and Michelle Obama, to historians and biographers including David Blight, Jon Meacham, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jill Lepore, and so many others. Woven through all of it is a deeply human narrative — his love for his late wife, Francie; his reflections on aging, family, and purpose; the leaders who shaped him; the lessons hard-won; and the quiet moments that stayed with him.As Bob Iger put it, “Whether you're an executive or simply someone who loves reading and learning, you will find great value and wisdom in this book.” And we couldn't agree more. For anyone who enjoys learning from lived experience, this conversation — and this book — make a wonderful companion. It might even inspire you to reflect on everything you've read and learned along the way. Learn how to close more high-ticket sales without the endless follow-ups and objections The gateway strategy is the secret weapon that's allowing businesses across every industry to turn cold leads into $50K+ buyers – and if you're still trying to sell high-ticket offers on the first call, you're leaving serious money on the table. In this episode, I break down exactly why 90% of high-ticket sales fail and reveal the proven gateway method that's generated over $100 million in revenue for our clients. Think of it like the Panda Express sample strategy – give people a taste of what you can do with a smaller, low-risk engagement, and they'll naturally want the full meal. I'm joined by my co-founder and head of coaching, Stephanie Vaughan, who brings over $100 million in organizational impact through her coaching expertise. As the former president of coaching for Tony Robbins' Business Breakthroughs International and developer of 150 coaches worldwide, Stephanie knows exactly what it takes to scale high-ticket sales systems that actually work. KEY TAKEAWAYS: High-ticket sales fail because most entrepreneurs try to make the sale too fast without building sufficient trust and relationship first. The gateway strategy uses smaller, paid low-risk engagements that lead prospects naturally toward your premium offers. Gateway offers work like food court samples – they give prospects an initial win and taste of your results before asking for bigger commitments. High-ticket sales cycles require multiple calls, meetings, and touchpoints with a team of people to build confidence in the decision. Your super consumer is based on real data from your best clients, not theoretical ideal client profiles you created when starting out. Know your super consumer by identifying clients who pay the most, get the best results, send referrals, and are easiest to work with. Gateway strategies work across any industry – from custom coding to consulting to physical products. The key is creating an irresistible gateway offer that provides immediate value while demonstrating your capability to deliver on larger promises. Brooke Clay Taylor is a force. We are so excited to have her on the podcast because her story is so darn inspiring, and she's just a really cool human. In this episode, Brooke shares her journey from growing up in a small town, moving to the big city for college and work, moving back to a small town for entrepreneurship and love, and then becoming an entrepreneur, mother, and cancer survivor. This episode explores what it really looks like to design your life with intention, build community by being a "villager," and choose authenticity in both business and life. About Brooke: Brooke Clay Taylor has made a life of clearing hurdles, but she'd be the first to tell you she didn't jump a single one alone. Born into a farming family in Franklin, Ind., and raised on a ranch in Perkins, Okla., anyone reading the plot to date might've said Brooke's story was more Lifetime than real-life, more Hallmark than even half-believable. When a high school guidance counselor told Brooke her average grades and would-be first-generation college student status made her a better candidate for job training than higher education, Brooke leaped anyway. She landed with bachelor's and master's degrees and firm footing for a career in strategic communications. Her career, and later, love, took Brooke from Oklahoma City to Charlotte, Austin to Nashville. She left Music City for Payne County when the fairy tale proved fiction, trading the keys for a middle-Tennessee Craftsman to a red-dirt-speckled horse barn. With three figures in her bank account, Brooke jumped again: This time to launch Rural Gone Urban, a strategic communications business to support farmers, ranchers and agriculture clients worldwide with her digital prowess. She married Damon — a fellow Perkins kid and junior high crush come full circle — in a snow globe scene, and together, they made a home on the shores of Lake Tenkiller in Eastern Oklahoma. The next summer, they welcomed their daughter, Elsie, the same day Brooke was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite extensive treatment and being declared cancer-free, it returned two years later. And it was angry. Whether in finding the courage to take the first step into a lecture hall she allegedly didn't belong or the infusion center to face another round of chemo, Brooke credits her support system for never letting her fall. She founded the Rural Gone Urban Foundation to help women jumping hurdles — the B students, the big dreamers, the start-overers, and especially the women in the ring with cancer — who don't have the support that has propelled her at every leap. In this episode, we cover: Leaving big-city success to build something meaningful in a small town Receiving a cancer diagnosis the day her daughter was born Building a nonprofit as a vehicle for legacy, not just charity The quiet tension of being nationally respected but locally unseen Why pain comparison silences connection—and how to change it Links + Resources Mentioned: Rural Gone Urban website: https://ruralgoneurban.com/ Rural Gone Urban Foundation: https://ruralgoneurban.org/ Sponsor Spotlight: The Yellow Bird is a longtime favorite and friend of Growing Small Towns and our Executive Director, Rebecca. Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!Tired of feeling invisible on the gym floor? We share a practical, no-fluff playbook for new and rising trainers who want to fill their books fast without turning into pushy salespeople. It starts with presence: show up early, stay late, and learn the living rhythm of your gym. Map traffic patterns, make eye contact, and smile more than anyone else. Members trust the faces they see every day—so be the person who offers a quick warm-up tip, a towel when it's needed, and a calm answer when someone looks lost.We break down a simple programming framework—CCA: Core movement, Complementary movement, Accessory—that lets you design effective workouts on the spot. Whether you're helping the arm-day regular or the machine-loving 70-year-old, CCA keeps sessions focused, scalable, and aligned with real goals. We also dig into light-touch sales that don't feel slimy: front-desk rapport, micro-education moments, and fun calorie-estimation games that spark nutrition chats. Instead of lecturing, invite members into a complimentary assessment to review goals, stress, sleep, and training history. The tone stays friendly, curious, and helpful.Mindset sets your ceiling. Use a Kobe-level work ethic to stack tiny wins: chase floor shifts, learn from the top and bottom performers, and invest downtime in anatomy and cueing. Bring your food, manage your energy, and radiate gratitude. Then commit to 90 days of rinse-and-repeat consistency and run a quarterly review to turn weaknesses into strengths. If you've been waiting for permission to step forward, here it is: be the most present, prepared, and positive person in the room. That's how strangers become clients—and clients become long-term success stories. If this playbook helped, follow the show, share it with a trainer who needs a boost, and leave a quick review so more coaches can find it.Want to become a SUCCESSFUL personal trainer? Send us a textRHOSLC-Greek for the Week, Petty for a LifetimePodcast Summary – RHOSLC S6 E13 “Greek for the Week”The ladies of Salt Lake City kick off their Greek getaway, and the chaos truly does travel internationally.Angie hosts Heather and Mary for a Greek lesson at her home, where they learn extremely useful phrases like “shut up” and “piss off.” Meanwhile, the rest of the ladies gear up for the trip and arrive in Santorini wearing Greek flag sunglasses and waving flags like they're in a parade.Immediately, drama hits the table—literally, at the restaurant. Angie casually mentions she had the fat pads removed under her eyes, which sends Lisa into her usual spiral of insecurity. That leads straight into the Cartier Wars: Angie and Lisa's airport argument about who copied whose Cartier watch. Heather reveals she bought herself a matching Cartier during their layover because it was duty-free—naturally sending Whitney into hysterics. The episode flashes receipts (literally) showing Angie had the watch in 2016, but Lisa still insists she's the moment. The rest of the women? Laughing at the ridiculousness. At the villa, the glam vs. no-glam divide returns—Lisa refuses to travel without her glam squad and ends up three hours late to shopping and sunset views, arriving in sunglasses like she's in hiding. The women aren't impressed. On the beach, Mary diagnoses everyone with “bucket face,” “pie face,” “oblong face,” or “square dingbat face.” No notes. Perfect television.Lunch turns tense when Angie asks Bronwyn about her marriage; Bronwyn denies any open marriage rumors and Heather calls out the inconsistencies, backed by Mary and Whitney. Bronwyn insists everyone is adding 2+2 and getting 5.The bigger tension, though, is Meredith vs. Heather. Meredith planned a private conversation to address Heather calling her a liar, but Heather refuses any private talk that could be twisted. Meredith tries to give her an evil eye necklace as a peace offering; Heather politely accepts but demands an honest conversation.Dinner explodes when Heather confronts Meredith about selectively choosing outrage—specifically, blowing up over a TikTok while ignoring bigger betrayals. Meredith insists she never called Heather a liar, and Lisa inserts herself to defend Meredith, causing another emotional pileup. Then Whitney finally breaks, saying everyone is fighting because of how Meredith treated Brittany on the plane, and Meredith's refusal to own it is driving the group into chaos. Meredith storms off while Lisa chases after her, naturally. The episode ends with no resolution, but plenty of tears, raised voices, and deep friendship fractures set to carry into the donkey ride in Santorini teased for next week.WWHL Highlights: – Heather hints reunion will explain the missing plane footage. – Polls overwhelmingly say Lisa is more competitive, Cartier watches are for grandmas, and Angie had the best reunion look. – Only 9% believe Lisa & Meredith's version of the plane incident.Living the Dream with CurveballOn the living the dream with curveball podcast I interview guests that inspire.Listen on: Apple Podcasts Support the showhttps://www.wewinewhenever.com/

These are Top 10 Most Difficult Decisions you will make in your lifetime
'Tis the season for an viewing diet unhealthily dominated by ugly sweaters, fake snow, and immaculately trimmed prop Christmas trees, and the Alternate Ending gang is celebrating by bringing Tim and Brennan together to discuss something other than horror cinema for a change. They're joined by terrible Christmas movie expert Cameron, and the three of them are sharing their thoughts - or in Tim's cases, confusions - on the omnipresent modern holiday movie genre, slick and cheesy romantic comedies made by Netflix, Hallmark, Lifetime, and other fine purveyors of shameless cinematic comfort food. It's a holly jolly time on this very special episode of Alternate Ending!
