Halt, Help, Heal From Domestic Violence

This is our second episode in the series on Child Sexual Abuse where we talk to Ms. Deb Rosen, who is the Executive Director of Bivona Child Advocacy Center in Rochester, NY. We talk about what Bivona does, how to handle when a child discloses the abuse and dispel some myths about child sexual abuse. Advocacy organizations like Bivona is crucial to victims of child abuse especially child sexual abuse.

This episode features Iram Gilani where we talk about her book "SILENT NO MORE". Iram has been through so much trauma in her life including abandonment, child sexual abuse, physical abuse, homelessness, violent gun assault and emotional abuse. In this episode we talk about her experience of child sexual abuse and how she wants to help others with this book. Please be warned that hearing some of these may trigger your own experiences with trauma.

In this episode, we talk about how cultural issues and patriarchy play a role in gender based violence. This episode features Sujata Warrier, the Chief Strategy Officer for the Battered Women's Project who shares her thoughts on how cultural issues among the South Asian community have had an impact on domestic violence and what changes the experts are observing in the patriarchal norms in the South Asian community.

In this episode, we talk about how a doctor plays a role as community member in halting domestic violence, helping a domestic violence victim and healing a domestic violence victim from the trauma. This episode features Dr.Shashi Sharma, a senior Obstetrician-Gynecologist who shares her thoughts on what a doctor's role is in the fight against domestic violence. The conversation is about bringing hope of recovery from domestic violence by bringing domestic violence to a HALT by giving HELP to HEAL from deep trauma of domestic violence.
