Hosted on Acast. For more than two centuries, The Pilgrim's Progress has encouraged believers along the narrow way. Now, in this newly updated edition, Charles H. Spurgeon – who read Bunyan's classic more than one hundred times – walks with readers through the allegory's most memorable scenes, illuminating the spiritual truths within “that sweetest of all prose poems.” Originally delivered as Monday evening addresses and published post-posthumously by Spurgeon's son Thomas, these messages reveal Spurgeon at his pastoral best: warm, practical, biblical, and deeply earnest for the salvation and spiritual growth of his hearers. With vivid insight, he explores Christian's early companions: the Swamp of Despond, the gate of salvation, the battle with Apollyon, the dangers of Vanity Fair, and more – drawing lessons for young and seasoned travelers alike. Rich with Scripture, full of spiritual counsel, and alive with Spurgeon's unmistakable voice, Pictures from Pilgrim's Progress invites you to walk again with Christian, see yourself in Bunyan's characters, and grow in love for both the allegory and the Word of God that shaped it. A timeless help for all who seek the Celestial City. About the Author Charles Haddon (C. H.) Spurgeon (1834-1892) was a British Baptist preacher. He started preaching at age 16 and quickly became famous. He is still known as the “Prince of Preachers” and frequently had more than 10,000 people present to hear him preach at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. His sermons were printed in newspapers, translated into many languages, and published in many books.

Send a textThe Feds HALT Minnesota's medicaid payments until it can get its fraud problem figured out....Check out the American Experiment Podcast!Welcome back! This week on the American Experiment Podcast… Our hosts dig into why the Trump administration is halting $260 million in Medicaid payments to Minnesota. Is it really about stopping fraud, or just “political retribution,” as Gov. Walz claims? Later, they examine another unintended consequence of Minnesota's fraud fallout: a state budget forecast that (at least at first glance) gives us a surplus, not a deficit. Finally, they question the governor's latest “gun control” plan. (Why is it based on yet another tax? And shouldn't we start by actually enforcing the firearm laws we already have?) On the back half, they sit down with Hillsdale College professor David Azerrad for a wide-ranging conversation on the state of modern conservatism, what it means to be a true “American,” and why it's our country's spirit, not its dream, that makes us great. Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. The headlines wrote themselves. Most of them missed the point. In California criminal procedure, a not guilty plea at arraignment is a placeholder—not a declaration of innocence. If the defense intended to claim Nick didn't commit the killings, they'd say so. They didn't. What they're doing is preserving options while psychiatric evaluations continue and strategy crystallizes. Here's how California insanity defense works: if you want to claim you were legally insane at the time of the crime, you enter a dual plea—not guilty AND not guilty by reason of insanity. The court then bifurcates your trial. Phase one determines guilt. Phase two, if needed, determines sanity. The single not guilty plea suggests the defense hasn't committed to that path yet.Three doors remain open:M'Naghten insanity. Prove Nick didn't understand what he was doing or didn't know it was wrong. Legal experts are skeptical. He was reportedly arguing with his father at a party hours before the killings—suggesting awareness of conflict and context.Diminished actuality. Use his documented schizoaffective disorder and reported medication changes to argue he couldn't premeditate. This doesn't eliminate guilt—it reduces the charge. First-degree becomes second-degree or manslaughter.Incompetence to stand trial. Halt proceedings entirely until treatment restores Nick's ability to participate in his defense.Meanwhile, Jake, Romy, and Tracy Reiner face something the legal system has no category for: being mourners, crime victims, and the accused's family simultaneously. Sources say they've cut Nick off completely. Sources also say they oppose the death penalty. Whether prosecutors honor that preference remains to be seen.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In this episode, we take a closer look at the issues shaping the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, which are expected to be announced soon by the Election Commission of India. Even before the formal declaration, the political temperature has begun to rise, with sharp exchanges between the Trinamul Congress, which is seeking a fourth consecutive term in office, and its principal opponent, the BJP. But beyond the SIR controversy and the familiar flashpoints that have defined recent campaigns, what does the broader political landscape in West Bengal look like? What is the real state of play on the ground as parties gear up for a high-stakes contest? And as the Trinamul Congress attempts to extend its decade-long hold on power, could this turn out to be its toughest electoral battle yet? State leaders are responding to a move by the federal government to withhold about a quarter billion dollars in Medicaid funding. The Trump administration says the state has 60 days to share a plan to address fraud or the freeze could be extended. But Governor Tim Walz and members of his administration say they've been taking such steps. State Medicaid Director John Connolly said the state will have to pay the federal government a quarter billion dollars for services already provided, which is a hit to the state budget. Connolly says the Trump Administration has threatened to withhold more money. The funding pause affects 14 categories of services funded through Medicaid. Late in 2025, the state began reviewing providers of those services. It has suspended or delayed some payments. The programs include, in part, treatments for substance use disorder and mental health conditions. Marcus Schmit, executive director of the Minnesota chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, spoke with host Nina Moini about what the funding threat could mean for mental health care in the state.

A conversation with meditation teacher Jay Michaelson about what to do when you're constantly tired, fried, and running on empty. If you feel exhausted seemingly all the time—whether it's a low hum or something louder—you're not alone. In this conversation, Jay Michaelson, our Teacher of the Month for February, talks with executive producer DJ Cashmere about the relentless fatigue so many of us are experiencing, and what actually helps. We talk about: Why your first move should be self-compassion (not self-blame)—especially in a culture obsessed with sleep optimization The important oscillation between being with difficulty versus reaching for an antidote HALT: the acronym that can save you (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired) How to investigate exhaustion without trying to fix it right away Practical antidotes: screen hygiene, micro-naps, and yes, brain machines How our Stone Age brains are being hijacked by tech companies Why nap shame is "pure garbage" and you should kiss it goodbye The social conditions causing exhaustion that are beyond individual control The through-line: this isn't about becoming superhuman or gritting your teeth through exhaustion. It's about relating to it differently, being kinder to yourself, and using whatever tools actually work—even if they feel unconventional. You think you've seen it all before, perched on top of the wobbly commentary gantry at the Chigwell Construction Stadium... and then West Ham deliver those last 10 minutes against Brighton. Chloe and Rachel saw all the drama in the flesh and reflect on it all. What a relegation battle we've got on our hands! But first off, there's the small matter of Arsenal beating the league leaders Manchester City to continue the Renéeformation and at long, long last just going direct with Olivia Smith up top. We also discuss Chelsea's less than convincing win against Spurs and what the departure of their influential head of football means for the club moving forward. And Madonna rocks up to a WSL game! Sleep doesn't break because you forgot how to close your eyes. It breaks when anxiety trains your brain to stay on guard, and when quick fixes like alcohol, cannabis, or OTC sleep aids sedate you without restoring you. We team up with Australian psychologist and author Helen Dugdale to unpack how insomnia forms, why 3 a.m. wakeups become a habit loop, and the practical, evidence‑based steps that rebuild real rest—especially for people in recovery.Helen shares how anxiety sits at the core of most sleep problems and why the brain's plasticity is our greatest ally. We dig into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT‑I) basics—aligning with circadian rhythm, setting simple pre‑bed routines, and replacing catastrophic thoughts with repeatable behaviors—and explore how Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) calms trauma so sleep skills can finally land. Expect concrete tactics: caffeine cutoffs tied to bedtime, screen boundaries that don't feel punitive, mantras that redirect attention, breathing and counting that occupy mental space, and progressive muscle relaxation you can run anywhere, even in a noisy room with the lights on.We also address the realities people with addiction face: unstable housing, tight budgets, caregiving, and long days that drain executive function. You'll hear how to build micro‑habits that fit into crowded lives—thirty seconds while the kettle boils, one minute before starting the car, seven minutes as “0.5% of your day.” We talk timelines for progress, what to do on rough days when HALT hits, and how to bounce back from relapse without shame. The throughline is hope: you are worth the effort, and repetition rewires nights. If you're ready to trade quick fixes for deep, durable rest, this conversation gives you a blueprint you can start tonight.Subscribe, share with a friend who needs better sleep, and leave a review with the one habit you'll try first. Your feedback helps others find the show.To learn more about Helen's work: https://australianbraincoaching.com.auTo contact Dr. Grover: ammadeeasy@fastmail.com
