This is Stephanie's second visit with me. Stephanie has been a 1:1 teacher for students who were unable to be successful in a typical classroom or even on a school campus   She has been involved in “clinic based programs” which are unique to each student, methodical and systematically designed to help the student refine behaviors, access academics successfully and eventually transition into a typical school setting It's truly fascinating, her heart and her work have changed many lives.   Enjoy!

In Episode 6 Kathy introduces you to Lauren and her mother Angela. Their journey demonstrates how hard work, faith and love can change lives. When Kathy met them, Lauren had never been assessed for special education services though she struggles with executive function disfunction.  Lauren had also experienced childhood trauma which she tried hard to escape from in every way possible. After trying everything possible to support and help Lauren, Angela had to get herself to a place of accepting if Lauren stopped breathing, she would go on. Lauren is now a young adult with two kids in a RN program.  She talks about facing her trauma and working through it so that she could be the mother her kids deserved.  Lauren found her way!

In Episode 4 we meet one of Kathy's childhood friends, the well-known and universally loved Lori Gobbi!  Lori spent decades teaching special education and found her joy in working with the young adults in the transition program.   Though Lori has recently retired, her daughter Nicole carries on the dedication! Ann talks about her journey with her 36 year old son, Matt, who has Autism.  The perseverance she had in identifying this disability, having doctors tell her he was typical and wanting to believe them, but mom instinct knowing better. She shares her journey in getting him appropriate services for educational access and how she became a professional supporting families similarly situated. Ann talks about the stages of grief a parent goes through when finding out they will have to readjust their dreams and goals for their child and finding joy in the process.   Enjoy!
