We are gearing up for a special event - People Like Me - a two-day immersive retreat focused on building intercultural competency, strengthening inclusive leadership, and helping churches reflect the rich diversity of their communities. Led by our very own, Rev. Katrena King, our Conference's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialist, the retreat offers tools like the Intercultural Development Inventory, also known as the IDI - it will also include space for authentic storytelling, which will be done in a very unique way – and workshops on everything from tough conversations to vision casting. And that brings us to our guest. Samuel Rodriguez is the Director of Congregational Development for the Illinois Great Rivers Conference. For over 27 years, he's been helping churches plant, grow, and thrive—especially in multicultural and multi-ethnic contexts. He will be the special guest at People Like Me. Join us for a conversation about why events like People Like Me matter—and how the future of the Church depends on the kind of work he and Katrena will be doing in Woodworth.

Did you know that there is a profound connection between our senses and mental health? Our senses can heighten the more stress we're under, but they can also shut down as well. Smell alone can bring up strong feelings and emotions, for example, no one likes the smell of hospitals, but they love the smell of fresh bread. To explore this connection further, Dale invited Joanna Grace, Sensory Engagement and Inclusion Specialist, to join him to discuss ‘Your senses and your mental health'. Joanna highlights that when in a depressive mindset, you can withdraw from the world and restrict your access to sensation. As a result, our senses can become dulled, affecting our ability to fully enjoy activities like eating. She also emphasises the importance of our interoceptive sense, which allows us to sense our internal world, such as hunger and thirst, and how this differs for neurodivergent people which can in turn impact their wellbeing. Each individual's environment plays a significant role in shaping their sensory capacity, which in turn affects their ability to perceive and process emotions effectively. Listen to this thought-provoking perspective on the importance of curating environments that promote good mental health at a sensory level. About Joanna Grace Joanna Grace is a sensory engagement and inclusion specialist, doctoral researcher, author, trainer, TEDx speaker and Founder of The Sensory Projects. Embrace Equity for International Women's Day 2023 with Jacqui Barret #80In the episode, Nick Day is joined on The HR L&D Podcast by Jacqui Barrett, co-founder of Wider Thinking and an award-nominated Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Specialist and Keynote speaker to celebrate and discuss EDI concerning International Women's Day 2023.Jacqui previously spent 15 years working in television for the BBC before taking an extended career break when she had children because her mum was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimers (she was 60). What emerged from this experience was the realisation that Jacqui knew she wanted to speak about the topics she was passionate about – such issues as sustainability, female empowerment, financial inclusion, equality and unmuted cultures. It led Jacqui to create Wider Thinking. An equity diversity and inclusion programme that enables organisations to scale EDI awareness to all people, not just senior leadership. The platform is focused on helping people understand themselves and others, equipping everyone with skills and sensitivity to navigate the workplace, and allowing everyone to contribute. As someone who has implemented the Wider Thinking platform into my business at JGA HR Recruitment, I invited Jacqui to join me today to talk about why it is so important that we all embrace equality for International Women's Day.International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence & abuse against women. In this “Embrace Equity for International Women's Day 2023” episode with Jacqui Barret on The HR L&D Podcast, we also explore:What do the words human resources mean to you?Why is International Women's Day so important to you? What is the difference between equality and equity? Can you give real-world examples of equity? Can you give workplace examples of equity? What can we all do more of?What is EDI measurement, and why is it important? What will you be doing on 8th March in celebration of International Women's Day?Can you tell us more about Wider Thinking?Links highlighted in this “Embrace Equity for International Women's Day 2023” episode are included below:Website: https://widerthinking.com/Jacqui Barret LinkedIn Profile:
Hello and welcome to another episode of Educators and Immigration. It has been a while since I have released an episode. The reason is because I was traveling with our guests for today Erika Rosales and Yesenia Villalpando-Torres. We are the steering committee for the Mexico International Study Opportunity for Learning (MISOL) program and this December and January, we had a cohort of 18 participants who traveled to Mexico for a life-changing opportunity. Erika and Yesenia are strong activists for the immigrant community at the local, state, and national levels. They are always looking for ways to support undocumented, DACAmented, and immigrant populations. Erika Rosale is the Director for the Center for DREAMers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and she was a guest on this podcast back in episode 009 where we discussed the Center and all the amazing work they are doing. Additionally, she is a Diversity and Inclusion Specialist at WIDA which is housed within the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER). Erika is also a 4W Director of Immigration and Human Rights. We also have Yesenia Villalpando-Torres who is a Project Assistant for the Center for DREAMers. She is also an Immigration Affairs Social Worker for Dane County Department of Human Services where she works to support immigrants throughout the entire county. She is an inspirational community leader and activist. She works with community to establish programs and services. For example, she set up a DACA renewal event to connect individuals with lawyers and financial resources for their renewal process. Your best friend from the neighborhood sends you a text mid-day, asking if you'd like to join them for a walk. The sun is shining, your legs are stiff from sitting at the computer all morning, but…“Too much work to do”. Sad face emoji. Seated at your desk, you push through your body's desire to go. That tug of war feels frustrating. You want to, but work. You want to, but the kids. You want to, but you've already committed to something else you don't really want to do. It feels like, a little too often, you're pushing away invitations to joy and peace in your life. You decide to sit with this for a moment. And you wonder…what doorways might open up if you said “yes” to more of the things you really wanted to be doing? What price are you paying for not moving forward? Our work culture, our unpaid labor culture, and the roles we perform as mothers, spouses, friends, neighbors, and volunteers are all rooted in patterns of exploitation and exhaustion. But what if you could find a way to take back a little more control? What if you could stop automatically defaulting to “no”, even in the face of a busy day? What if you could take just one step away from the paradigm that convinced you that the only “choice” you had was to say “no” to joy more often than you say “yes”? This week, Karlee shares space with Faith Clarke, an Organizational Health & Inclusion Specialist. Through her work, she provides important cultural and historical context to how we navigate the “rules” of society, shedding a necessary light to explain how this conditioning affects us. In this episode, we unpack the reasons why you might be working so hard and resting so little. You'll start looking at your time and commitments in a different way, finding more opportunity pockets for rest. You'll also hear how Faith constructs an “imaginary world” where rules can be broken, using space as an exercise to creatively find more respite. If you're ready to, in the words of Faith, “Grab the thing that's in front of you and say Okay, I can be in control of this! …then this episode is for you. What You'll Learn in This Episode:How the constructs built around our bodies affect our ability to rest (2:37)Playing with the rules in order to figure out how to break them, safely (8:21)What it might look like to find “pockets” of respite in your life (13:24)How to invite others into your privilege (14:19)Reversing the narrative of the zero-sum game (18:17)People Mentioned in this Episode:Dr. Jovana WashingtonProgramsConnect with Faith Clarke:WebsiteInstagramConnect With Karlee: Website Hosted on Acast. A series of microagressions in the workplace knocked Anita Phagura's confidence and ambition. Motherhood, post-natal depression, redundancy and training to be a Samaritan all helped Anita to understand what was important to her. With a new focus of making a change in the working environment, Anita now supports leaders to change their ways of thinking, upskilling their understanding of inclusion, and translating this into courageous action with the intention to embed equitable inclusive structures to create a culture of belonging. Focusing on gender equality and fairness, Anita supports senior leaders in project management and construction companies to retain and engage women and people of colour, to build inclusive teams and to upskill their inclusive leadership. KEY TAKEAWAY “The vision and mission that I'd love to see within the construction sector, in principle, but beyond that is that we have equitable leadership. So that we have more women in leadership. That we have more people of colour in leadership and generally, people who are different from all walks of life, who currently feel like they might not belong, that they have that place in leadership.” ABOUT ANITA PHAGURA Anita Phagura is a skilled Inclusion Specialist, ICF Accredited Leadership Coach and Masters Qualified Project Manager with over a decade of experience in the male-dominated industry of railway construction. TUNE IN TO LEARN:The leadership of people that we all can learn from working remotely, in the office or hybrid;Remote makes the world more inclusive, more diverse, bigger, and more connected with many more opportunities to look at life and work from many more perspectives - people bring their culture, their background, their experience to the remote world from everywhere without the need for us to relocate;Physical and psychological boundaries at home to make work-life balance work, from physical “zoning” of spaces to conversations with family, partners and roommates - how Tricia does it with her husband, who works online, kids in the house and all;How make your team work well in any environment? Communication! In the remote environment we need to put more effort into it since we can't judge how everyone does by looking at them, working side by side, and having casual interactions; How Tricia approaches team management, team communication to help people open up, to build trust, to make sure any issues are addressed VS bottled up - the way she initiates conversations is what's most profoundly different from many less successful managers of people; How Fitbit saved Tricia's fitness when she went remote, and why morning workouts might be the best option;Tricia's very chill and smart (all the coaches will be jealous) strategy to manage eating habits while working from home;Email communication mastery to keep the vibe positive and get things done faster;Tricia's best advice on mental health strategies, which we all need to work on unless you are lucky to have Trisha's husband (that she's not willing to share)…A CONVERSATION NOT TO MISS! Welcome to Reimagining Company Culture, a series discussing emerging trends and priorities shaping the future of workplace culture and employee wellbeing. We highlight thought leaders who are constantly evolving their strategy and can provide insight to folks about how to address new business challenges. AllVoices is on a mission to create safe, happy, and healthy workplaces for all, and we're excited to learn from experts who share our mission. In this episode of Reimagining Company Culture, we're chatting with Lucas Wehle, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialist at Unite Us and LGBTQ+ and DEI Consultant. After coming out during his college career at the University of South Florida, he began sharing his story to increase education around trans identities and became passionate about helping others access the resources that he desperately needed years prior. Tune in to learn Lucas' thoughts on supportive personal resources for trans individuals, pitfalls organizations and ERG leaders should be aware of, small changes that make big impacts, and more! About AllVoices In today's workforce, people often don't feel empowered to speak up and voice their opinions about workplace issues, including harassment, bias, and other culture issues. This prevents company leadership from making necessary changes, and prevents people from feeling fulfilled, recognized, and included at work. At AllVoices, we want to change that by providing a completely safe, anonymous way for people to report issues directly to company leaders. This allows company leadership real transparency into what's happening in their companies—and the motivation to address issues quickly. Our goal is to help create safer, more inclusive companies.

All For Business is back for our second season! We're excited to kick it off with another "Around The Table" mini-series with Leadership Lynchburg in honor of Black History Month. Leadership Lynchburg believes that creating opportunities for healthy conversation builds awareness, trust and ultimately relationship. Relationships can create productive action and relationships enable you to "go there" on difficult topics trusting that the benefit is greater awareness and mutual understanding. In short, relationship create community. We aim to inspire leaders and educate allies and potential allies so they can create tangible actions within their respective spheres of influence. So, it's February, Black History Month and we thought it would be great to feature some of our local friends who can speak to their work for the black community. We're uniting these podcasts under the theme of "Tell me what I need to know . . ." Our final two guests are Donise Farmer and Justin Mercer. Donise serves as the Diversity and Inclusion Specialist at Genworth and Justin is an RPO Recruiter at Aya Healthcare. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/all-for-business/message

Welcome back to Fearless, Inspired and Free, a weekly conversation with Dana Wright and the women she has been fortunate to connect with to discuss their life's journey, the great things they are doing, overcoming life's obstacles, navigating their work and personal businesses; becoming Fearless in their actions, Inspired to live authentically and Free to live a life they choose! Fearless, Inspired and Free Podcast endeavors to build a community of learning, appreciation, encouragement, resilience, growth, acceptance, kindness and support! This week's guest on the Fearless, Inspired and Free Podcast is Aprill Edwards. Aprill is a Transformational Coach who helps women lose the physical, mental and emotional weight she feels is holding them back from living their best, most bold, most intentional life. She is SHE.E.O. of Because She Matters. The mission is to equip and empower women and girls, primarily of color, by helping them get healthy, happy, healed and whole--from a whole person's perspective. Aprill helps women identify and overcome the obstacles in their life holding them back from living their most fulfilled life—a life that is soulfully aligned, full of power and purpose. Aprill helps them break generational curses, broken mindsets and learned patterns and behaviors that keep them playing small in some areas of life instead of fully launching into a life that they may only dream about today. Aprill uses not only her education, professional certifications and experience, but also considers herself most qualified because she is a certified overcomer of the very issues that she serves and supports other women in today. From attempted suicide, teen pregnancy, emotional and physical abuse, toxic relationships, bankruptcy, and the death of her mother when she was only 13 years old, Aprill's resilience, determination and life experience allow her to serve others in a way uncommon to most transformational leaders. Aprill holds a MBA. She is a Certified Life/Success Coach, Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, has multiple certifications in Nutrition, Certified Transformation Coach, Certified Diversity & Inclusion Specialist and Certified Program Manager. Tune in to hear why Aprill says "I AM my client. I AM the women I serve". She goes on to discuss her own life of repressed trauma after the death of her mother and never hearing her father verbalize the love he had for her, although his love language was through action. Aprill knew it was time to begin her journey of self-discovery when she "hit rock bottom". She says, "It's not that I didn't like what I saw, I just didn't know her". Aprill's powerful story of releasing trauma, facing her own toxicity, setting "strong boundaries" and challenging then overcoming generational curses to become the best version of herself and the coach women could relate, learn and grow from is transparent and projects the authenticity we all can appreciate. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/danafif20/message
