Yes, I'm actually making a case for doing things that might feel “extreme”, not for the sake of pushing limits endlessly, but because of how those experiences can permanently change what feels hard.I talk about why “extreme” is relative to the person, and how challenges that stretch you can recalibrate your perspective on effort, discomfort, and what you're capable of.This episode isn't about being reckless or living at the extremes, it's about how intentionally doing hard things can build confidence that carries into other areas of your life and makes future challenges feel more manageable.Tune in each week for practical, relatable advice that helps you feel your best and unlock your full potential. If you're ready to prioritize your health and level up every area of your life, you'll find the tools, insights, and inspiration right here. Olympic sliding sports – bobsled, luge and skeleton – are known for their speed. Athletes chase medals down a track of ice at up to 80 or 90 mph. With this thrill comes the risk of “sled head.” Athletes use the term to explain the dizziness, nausea, exhaustion and even blackouts that can follow a brain-rattling run. Untreated, this can turn into concussions and subconcussions. But there's still a lot more to learn about this condition. So today, host Emily Kwong speaks with two experts about the medical research into sled head – and how the sport would need to change to protect athletes' brain health.Check out more of NPR's Olympics coverage.Interested in more Olympic science? Send us a textDid the original Food Pyramid quietly help create America's modern health crisis? In this eye-opening episode of the Strong by Design Podcast, Coach Chris Wilson sits down with nutrition and weight-loss expert William Grazione (The Educated Dieter) to unpack one of the most controversial topics in modern nutrition history — the 1992 Food Pyramid and its long-term consequences. This isn't political spin or diet culture noise. It's a fact-based, no-nonsense discussion about how government nutrition guidance, ultra-processed foods, and profit-driven food systems collided — and why obesity, diabetes, and metabolic disease exploded in the decades that followed. You'll learn how ultra-processed foods became “normal,” why cereal and refined carbs sabotage blood sugar, and why most dieting strategies fail people long-term. Chris and William also break down why body composition matters more than the scale, how muscle protects your metabolism, and what actually works if you want to lose fat and keep it off. This is Part 1 of a powerful two-part conversation that challenges outdated nutrition advice and gives you a smarter framework for health. After a quiet data week and a loud political signal, Ryan Detrick, Chief Market Strategist, and Sonu Varghese, VP, Global Macro Strategist at Carson Group, dig into what a potential Fed leadership shakeup could mean for rates, markets, and investor expectations. With Kevin Warsh emerging as the likely next Fed chair, the discussion cuts past headlines to examine his long history at the Fed, his shifting stance on inflation and rate cuts, and why markets may be less willing to take his guidance at face value. It's been one of the most volatile stretches for metals in decades, as gold and silver experience sharp pullbacks after a historic run. Ryan and Sonu break down why positioning and sentiment mattered more than headlines, and along the way, they connect the dots between capital-intensive tech investment, the emerging commodity supercycle, and why earnings strength continues to underpin equities despite leadership rotation and policy noise.Key Takeaways:Fed leadership uncertainty adds friction, not clarity: Kevin Warsh's record reveals a pattern of convenient pivots that may limit his influence over a skeptical committee Rate cuts face structural resistance: Markets are pricing fewer long-term cuts as capital investment and nominal growth keep upward pressure on rates Metals volatility was about positioning, not fundamentals: Extreme bullish sentiment set the stage for sharp pullbacks despite intact long-term trends Gold and silver require sizing, not timing: Volatility, correlations, and rebalancing matter more than chasing short-term price moves Earnings continue to justify the bull market: Strong margins, industrial strength, and resilient consumer spending support risk assets even as leadership rotatesJump to:0:00 - Setting The Stage: No Jobs Data1:06 - Who Is Kevin Warsh4:30 - Warsh's Crisis-Era Record9:10 - Politics, Hawks, And Rate-Cut Reality14:20 - Balance Sheet Beliefs Challenged19:45 - Gold And Silver's Wild Swing25:40 - How To Own Metals Wisely31:10 - From Software To Capex Supercycle36:50 - Productivity, Labor, And Rates41:30 - Fun Signals: Super Bowl And January46:05 - Earnings, Margins, And MomentumConnect with Ryan:• LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ryandetrick/• X: https://x.com/RyanDetrickConnect with Sonu:• LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sonu-varghese-phd/• X: https://x.com/sonusvarghese?lang=enQuestions about the show? Alex is a qualified International Mountain Leader, Polar Guide, and a professional Photographer based in St. Moritz, Switzerland. From scaling the world's highest peaks to leading expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctica, she thrives where the wild meets the extreme. Her passion for high-altitude exploration took her on a relentless quest; climbing the highest mountain on every continent, culminating on the summit of Mt. Everest in 2018. She became the first ever Hungarian to climb the Seven Summits. This journey ignited her mission to guide others through the raw beauty of the mountains and beyond. In the winter, she guides private snowshoe and fat bike around St. Moritz; in the summer, she leads exhilarating hiking and mountain biking adventures across the Alps. Between her Alps seasons, she's found working in the Polar regions (Antarctica: guide, zodiac driver, lecturer and lead crevasse rescue guide. Arctic: guide, zodiac driver, lecturer and polar bear guard) Her expertise extends far beyond Europe, guiding bespoke expeditions across the globe. An endurance athlete at heart, Alex is always chasing the next adventure—whether Polar ski crossing, racing mountain bikes, or pushing limits in the mountains. As a professional photographer and drone pilot, she uses her lens to capture the world's most remote landscapes, advocate for environmental conservation, and document the stories of the Polar regions. Her work is deeply inspired by mountains, polar history, pioneering female explorers, and the delicate balance of nature. In her recent book: Beyond the Seven Summits: Finding Strength Where the Air is Thin, Alex shares her experiences of climbing these mountains, and she also explores the journey that shaped who she is today: all the highs and lows. I hope to bring these peaks closer to readers by including short historical notes alongside each climb and sharing everything she learned along the way. The book is also rich in photographs, helping to bring both the stories and these beautiful mountains vividly to life. Bitcoin, gold, and silver are all breaking down at the same time, sending a clear warning signal across global markets. In this video, we unpack why traditional safe havens and digital assets are selling off together, what this synchronized move says about liquidity stress, macro fear, and forced positioning, and why correlations tend to spike during moments of real market pressure. Is this a temporary flush driven by leverage and headlines—or the early signs of a deeper reset across hard assets? We break down what matters, what doesn't, and what to watch next as volatility accelerates.
In this episode, the panel analyzes sharp volatility in metals, crypto, and markets following the Kevin Warsh Fed nomination, extreme crypto fear, and recent parabolic spikes in silver and gold. They debate potential peaks (silver possibly reverting to ~$50), Bitcoin's bearish setup and risk-asset correlation, decoupling from precious metals, reflation signals, energy/commodity trends, Trump-era deregulation for power and industry, stablecoin/tokenization growth, and Bitcoin's long-term thesis amid short-term pain.

It was a pleasure to speak with Rod for the first time in my career. He celebrated his 50th year as a professional drummer this past September. We discuss that and his latest project, Voices of Extreme. Before we got to those topics, Rod shared some great stories of touring with Rush and the legendary Neil Peart. He spoke about what an average day was like on that tour, his personality, and more. I also gave Rod a chance to plug his Wing Thing drum tool. From what I've heard, many touring drummers and drum techs use this tool. Was Winger underrated as far as their musicianship? He answers that question, as well as a little behind-the-scenes into the making of their hit, Seventeen. IMO, their record PULL was their best record. Unfortunately, a thing called grunge hit, and that album never got its due. It was a pleasure to speak with Rod....I hope you enjoy this. Send us a textReinvestment, Flywheels, & Why “Viral” Is a Myth on Mike and BlaineEveryone sees the stunts. The giveaways. The eye-popping subscriber counts. What most people don't see is the system underneath it all — and that's exactly what this episode of the Mike & Blaine Podcast digs into.In this episode, Mike and Blaine break down how MrBeast treats content like a business, not a lottery ticket. Instead of chasing random virality, he engineers outcomes by reinvesting aggressively, narrowing focus to one metric at a time, and building a flywheel that compounds attention, revenue, and scale. Every video isn't just content — it's infrastructure. Here's the twist: when you zoom out, MrBeast's approach looks a lot less like influencer hype and a lot more like disciplined business strategy. Tight feedback loops. Extreme reinvestment. Ruthless prioritization. Long-term thinking. It's the same mindset used in high-performing companies that understand cash flow, unit economics, and compounding advantages — just applied to media instead of manufacturing or SaaS.If you run a business, lead a team, create content, or care about growth strategy, this episode connects dots most people never put together. Why some creators (and companies) win consistently. Why “going viral” is usually the result of systems, not the cause. And how thinking like an operator instead of a gambler changes everything. If this episode makes you think, laugh, or question your own strategy, head over to https://mikeandblaine.com and buy us a beer

Welcome to the RPGBOT.Podcast, where today's lesson is simple: cosmic horror, but with punchable Nazis. If classic Call of Cthulhu is about fragile academics discovering forbidden truths and immediately dying, Pulp Cthulhu is about kicking down the door, firing a shotgun at an elder god, and saying, "That all you got?" This episode is about concepts, themes, and vibes—the part of the game where sanity is optional, luck is currency, and surviving certain death might involve parachuting into a hot-air balloon you didn't know was there. Grab your fedora. We're going full pulp. Show Notes What Is Pulp Cthulhu? Pulp Cthulhu is a fully compatible variant of Call of Cthulhu that dials the game from existential despair to high-octane pulp adventure. Characters are tougher, more competent, and far more likely to survive long enough to matter. If Call of Cthulhu is The Thing or Evil Dead, Pulp Cthulhu is The Mummy, Army of Darkness, or Indiana Jones with eldritch nightmares. Core Themes & Tone Heroic pulp action instead of grim cosmic inevitability Investigators who can take multiple hits and keep fighting A lighter, often comedic tone without abandoning horror Quips, gadgets, globe-trotting, and cinematic set pieces This makes Pulp Cthulhu an excellent transition for players coming from Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, or other heroic tabletop RPGs. Setting & Genre Shift Time period: 1930s, just before World War II Scope: Global adventures—London, Cairo, jungles, ruins, secret bases Enemies: Cultists, mythos horrors… and a suspicious number of Nazis The game leans hard into classic pulp tropes: secret societies, forbidden relics, occult conspiracies, and globe-spanning races against evil. Core Mechanics D100 roll-under system with degrees of success Regular, Hard, and Extreme successes replace DCs Fumbles and pushed rolls create escalating consequences Skills improve when you fail them during advancement These mechanics reward specialization while keeping tension high, even for highly skilled characters. What Makes Pulp Cthulhu Different? Archetypes Two-Fisted Hero, Hard-Boiled Detective, Mystic, Mad Scientist, Femme Fatale, and more Each archetype boosts a core characteristic and grants bonus skills Talents Passive and active abilities that enhance combat, investigation, or survivability Categories include Physical, Mental, Combat, and Weird Science Hit Points Roughly double standard Call of Cthulhu HP Still deadly—just less instantly fatal Luck as a Meta-Currency Spend luck to: Cancel fumbles Reduce damage Stay conscious Cheat death entirely (with a suitably ridiculous explanation) Luck regenerates every session, encouraging aggressive use Insanity, Magic, and Weird Science Insane Talents can grant powerful abilities with narrative drawbacks Magic is faster to learn but still dangerous and unpredictable Psychic powers like telekinesis and clairvoyance are viable builds Weird Science introduces death rays, jetpacks, ghost detectors, and other Flash-Gordon-adjacent nonsense Yes, you can build a psychic mind-wizard or a mad scientist with a death ray. The game actively wants you to try. The Pulp Meter The game supports multiple pulp levels: Low Pulp: Almost classic Call of Cthulhu Mid Pulp: Standard Pulp Cthulhu rules High Pulp: Extra talents, cinematic survivability, full nonsense This episode sets the stage for going high pulp in future sessions Key Takeaways Pulp Cthulhu trades hopeless cosmic horror for heroic pulp survival Characters are tougher, more competent, and more fun to invest in Luck is a central mechanic that fuels cinematic storytelling The 1930s setting enables globe-trotting, occult conspiracies, and pulp villains Perfect for groups who want action, investigation, and horror without constant character death If you've ever wanted to punch Cthulhu—or at least shoot near him—this is your game Welcome to the RPGBOT Podcast. Most machine shops grow by adding capabilities, chasing new markets, and saying "yes" as often as possible. Forest City Gear took the opposite path — and built a 123-person company by doing it. In this episode of Machine Shop Mastery, I sit down with Kika Young, President of Forest City Gear, to unpack how extreme specialization became the company's competitive advantage. Instead of trying to be everything to everyone, Forest City Gear made the intentional decision to focus almost exclusively on one thing: high-precision, loose gears. That focus reshaped everything — from who they sell to, to how they price work, to how they think about growth. Kika shares the personal and professional story behind that strategy, including the weight of leading a multi-generation family business, navigating serious health challenges within her family, and nearly selling the company before deciding to commit fully to its future. Along the way, she explains why walking away from entire industries was one of the best decisions they ever made. This conversation is a deep dive into focus as a growth strategy. It challenges the idea that more capability automatically means more opportunity, and instead makes the case that saying "no" — clearly and consistently — can be the most powerful move a shop owner makes. If you're wrestling with how to grow without losing control, margin, or identity, this episode offers a clear, real-world example of what disciplined specialization actually looks like. Revenge rarely solves your problems… but boy does it feel good to get your own back! You want to steal my lunch? Then enjoy the sick burn I'm about to leave on this sticky note! Except, not all revenge is plotted equally. While I'm a huge fan of passive aggressive messages, they don't compare to getting someone arrested, costing them millions of dollars, or levelling their entire life with a single revelation. With that said, put those sticky notes and witty quips away, because we're about to explore even more tales of revenge that wreaked nuclear levels of destruction! In this episode, we dive into the final part of our series, "Challenge Accepted." Join us as we explore the complexities of faith, the challenges we face in our lives, and the importance of making courageous decisions. We discuss how life is filled with difficult choices that can feel overwhelming, whether it's restoring relationships, overcoming addictions, or coming back to faith after being hurt. The episode emphasizes that while small, wise decisions shape our future, there are pivotal moments that require us to take extreme actions that can change the trajectory of our lives. Through the story of a paralytic man who was lowered through a roof to reach Jesus, we learn about the power of faith and the importance of trusting God in uncomfortable situations. We also reflect on the significance of humility and the willingness to act, even when it feels sacrificial or embarrassing. As we prepare for our upcoming series, "The Last Kingdom," we encourage listeners to invite others to join us and to pray for wisdom and courage in their own lives. Key Takeaways: Life's challenges are rarely linear or easy. Small decisions can lead to significant changes. The importance of faith and trust in God. How humility and action can invite God's power into our lives. The Main Idea: Sometimes changing the direction of your life takes more than a tweak. It requires an extreme decision. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are an alternative to church as usual.
