Two guys try to make sense of the ongoing reality TV spectacle that is the Bachelor franchise. We're occasionally ambivalent, often morally conflicted, and try to be funny through it all.
Hey, JJ Bach Show Fans! Jeff here. Wanted to share with you the pilot for a new show I'm working on in between Bachelor seasons with my wife McKenna - she's the one whose band provided our theme music for the show. We're going on a live action Disney adventure, combing through the back catalog of Disney's live action feature films, with the help of our local library. In the premiere, we start at the beginning with 1950's Treasure Island, but we plan on skipping around the decades and exploring all the weird and occasionally junky corners of what Disney had to offer when they weren't making cartoons. Hope you enjoy! And Jeff and Joe will see you again in January for ... ugh, Colton? We might have to meet sooner and discuss this turn of events.
I was super proud of that sage wisdom that closes out our first season and gives our finale episode its name, until I realized that it's a transposed Superchunk lyric I had kicking around in my brain. Oh well, I bet Garrett stole that whole eagles thing from somewhere too. Ah, the inevitable conclusion! Jeff and Joe try to rationalize and not judge Becca's final choice, but probably do anyway. The general weirdness of this biannual love triangle ritual is picked apart a little, the Instagram Likes Scandal (tm) is discussed for hopefully the final time ever, we throw down on a professional rivalry with our colleagues in Bachelor recapping (who happen to be former show contestants, but who's counting?), and wonder if we can ever really make this show be about more than it repeatedly tries to tell us it's all about. Thanks as always to Ponchos From Peru for letting us use an old album reject as some catchy theme music this season, and thanks to YOU, J&J Bach Show listener, for sticking with us for 8 episodes this year. Be sure to keep telling your friends, rate and review us, and stay tuned for what's sure to be next!
...I kid! The beers were still cold. Joe's a quality host with a well-insulated fridge. We go "unplugged" this week to take you into the home stretch, talking about the Fantasy Suites in the most genteel terms we can muster, wondering how Colton manages to be so unsympathetic on Men Tell All, and ... oh yeah, Jeff goes all Alex Jones on how the show's producers may be manipulating REALITY ITSELF to spice up an otherwise inevitable season. Shortly after that, Joe leaves Jeff alone at the mic - coincidence? Well, IS IT?!?!?? Music this week and every week by the classic Wilmington, NC 2000s indie rock outfit Ponchos From Peru - go check them out on a platform of your choosing! And go rate and review us on iTunes, before Season 1 of our show comes to a close.
We give equal time to all four hometown dates, until we have to reckon with the not one but two incredibly awkward codas given to Colton's run on this show. Are these some of the most blatantly staged moments in the show's history? In the case of the latter, how badly do we want to believe that Chris Harrison was caught off guard in giving some sex ed fundamentals? But it's not all Colton all the time! We've got meditations on the nebulous definition of "values", the baby steps this show is willing to take away from the heteronormative bubble, and how weird it gets whenever this show finds itself having to address anything of substance. Also, absolutely nothing changes in where these dudes all stand with Becca! Our music, as always, is "Dummy", a castoff from the great 2000s beach town indie rock band Ponchos From Peru.
We're back after a holiday break to cover the epic journey from 9 guys down to 4. And by epic, I mean mostly predictable. We talk about the lack of surprises, how the show could still surprise us both this season and next, and handicap the rest of the season. Also, apparently BoJack Horseman is the one show we've both watched besides this one, so we come back to that a lot - hope you've seen it too, or the last ten minutes of this one might get confusing? I blame the initial mention of Mr. Peanutbutter's favorite band for setting it all off. Speaking of music, our theme music and interstitials are, as always, from the song "Dummy" by Ponchos from Peru. You can find other songs by them (but not that song) on all your streaming services. Finally, don't forget to rate and review us on Apple Podcasts - it helps us get seen in the vast and endless landscape of podcast offerings!
Kind of remarkable that every season doesn't have a Vegas episode, when you really think about it... This week, we talk about how the producers are clearly gaslighting us with Colton's storyline, wonder where all the helicopters have gone and why they've been replaced with awkward songwriting dates, marvel at Chris' emotional meltdown, and say a fond farewell to the silliest Bachelorette feud in recent memory. Also, a weird sidebar about Jeff's grudges from middle school band camp! Tunes, as always, courtesy Ponchos From Peru, whose album "Friendship and Other Mistakes", which our theme music was deleted from, can be found on iTunes... ... and so can we! Or I guess it's called Apple Podcasts now, but you get the idea. Rate and review us there when you have a minute - thanks!
This week, we watch a lovely date between a lovely lady and a guy that not even the camera knows is a jerk, sample the sounds of modern country, and Joe breaks down in precise detail one of the show's most excruciating self-destruction sequences ever while Jeff interjects some sports jargon that he only 70% understands but has heard an awful lot. Hey, we're on iTunes, or Apple Podcasts, or whatever it's called these days. Go on there to rate and review us, and watch us rocket up the charts! We'll still remember you when we're in the big leagues, we promise. Music, as always, is "Dummies," an outtake from the album Friendship and Other Mistakes by Ponchos From Peru, which you can find on the usual digital and streaming outlets (Have we mentioned this is Jeff's wife's band from college? Because it is, and they're great).
We're back! After a week's hiatus from the podcast studio/guest bedroom, we return to tackle the monumental task of bringing you up to speed on two weeks and four hours of The Bachelorette. ... it's actually not that monumental a task. They should really edit that show more concisely! But we get into it all - the relay races, the sporting contests, the one on one dates, and of course, the greatest Dude Feud in show history, David and Jordan. Then things get real heavy as we contemplate how a major broadcast network failed to notice that one of our contestants had pending assault charges, but we pull out of that tailspin and stick the landing for you, the listener! Theme music, once again, is the terrific "Dummy", an unused track from the band Ponchos From Peru and their album "Friendship and Other Mistakes", which you can find on iTunes and your streaming services. And hey! We're on iTunes now too (wild, huh?), so maybe leave us a review? Thanks!
It's a new season, and a new start for the Jeff and Joe Bachelor podcasting project. We're here to cover what surely has to be the beginning of the end of this reality TV franchise to see what tricks they have left to keep our interest. Topics covered: limo entrances, the guys with the goods to go the distance, Jordan's fashion corner, the requisite drama, the swift exit of Pet... I mean, Jake, and the tragic demise of Grocer Joe from Chicago. Music: "Dummy", by Ponchos From Peru (unreleased track)
