Today I sit down with a previous client of mine, Haley. She shares the very real story of sleep deprivation and how it impacted her feelings towards motherhood and her baby. Jumping into the world of parenthood is a challenge for all of us. Its stressful, its challenging and can make you feel ill-equipped, especially if you have a baby or child that doesn't sleep well. Sleep deprivation is real and there is a reason that it is used a form of punishment in war prison camps. It is absolutely brutal and debilitating. The link between sleep and mood has been studied for years by researchers and doctors. People with poor sleep have a higher risk for anxiety and depression. Postpartum depression is much worse if you are not sleeping. I know when our daughter was a baby I wasn't sleeping and I struggled. If this is how you feel, know that you are not alone, there is help out there. Below is a link to a free quiz. Its OK to admit you are struggling and its OK to get help. https://www.mind-diagnostics.org/postpartum_depression-test?gclid=Cj0KCQiAm4TyBRDgARIsAOU75sqKrgh_jrvzEIcXpU4tt402iQHU-gBIbCZAGTIStR2IHEwAN1Ib9p8aAk_FEALw_wcB --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/shannon-m-glenn/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/shannon-m-glenn/support

I had the pleasure of talking with Kristine Petterson in today's episode. Kristine is an educator, yoga instructor, doula, sleep specialist and a parent. Her compassion for others, desire for learning and growing along with many other amazing attributes have led her down the path to her newest venture, Mindful Parenting. Kristine wanted to make a positive change in her parenting and she has found that to be possible through a lot of education and experience in the practice of being mindful. From Kristine's website she explains mindfulness. "Mindfulness can be a specific type of formal meditation, but I like to think of it as "noticing", becoming aware of where you are, in your body, thoughts, and feelings at a given moment. In moments of joy, it brings added joy. In moments of challenge it brings the space and sweetness you need to respond in the way you want." Kristine is now offering a 5 week online course for parents, called Mindful Parenting. She has put together a wonderful program to educate and empower parents through the mindful parenting practices she teaches.
