Talk of the Class

I take a look at potential solutions for solving the problem of parental engagement. I discuss ways in which increased engagement among parents and guardians can help to break down barriers and eradicate misconceptions regarding what is taking place in school. I firmly believe that open communication leads to better buy-in, resulting in trust and collaboration between parents and educators. 

I take a look at many of the certification changes being implemented by states across the country, in an effort to combat the teacher shortage. I discuss the benefits of some of these changes, the aspects that are cause for concern, and the potential pitfalls of their implementation.

I am joined by Dr. Jess Smith. We discuss the external factors that impact the decisions teachers make in the classroom, such as district curriculum, parent involvement, and standardized testing. 

I take a look at many of the reasons teachers are leaving the profession, which has been a catalyst for the largest teacher shortage in recent memory. I discuss the most commonly cited reasons for the teacher exodus and potential solutions that districts can take to curb the issue.

I discuss tips for a successful year for first year teachers embarking on a new adventure. I surveyed a group of teachers with more than 200 years of teaching experience to compile a list of best practices to help new teachers get off to a strong start.

I discuss issues and changes in special education throughout my career. I highlight approaches that worked best for me in overcoming these challenges and provide guidance for those who may be looking at how to find resources to make them a more effective special education teacher.
