Having suffered silently with depression for a number of years I found the best way out was by looking in. So began a quest to improve my mental state through consistent action, habit changes and science. By the latter I don't mean I started cooking meth. I'm interested in people, their passions and…
My first interview of 2019 is with Mr Samuel Hockey. A designer and former National Mental Health Commissioner, Samuel has a huge experience within the mental health world. This is part one of two as we had so much that we covered. Keep an eye on www.tomalfry.com or @thenoisymind3po on Instagram for the next part!
Mr Jonathon "Jono" Levy joins me for my first epidode of Season Two. It's been a year since the last interview, so it was time to make a comeback! I had a great time getting to know Jonathon a bit more. We've been friends for a short time, but I always enjoy the conversations we have, so I knew this would be a good interview. He came up with some great points and uses some simple but excellent tools to help manage stress. Enjoy listening!
I had a great conversation with Rhiannon about her past, the tools she uses to maintain good mental health and her passion of film production. There are some great tools in her for mindfulness and stress control, from lego to colouring and more. I am looking forward to the next catchup with Rhiannon in the near future.
Before Linda left Sydney to return to Dallas, Texas I got to interview her. In fact we interviewed each other. What follows is a really enjoyable and insightful conversation with a powerful woman. I'm looking forward to seeing the great things that Linda does, but until then we can enjoy getting to know her a little better. After this you may also know me better too, perhaps a little too much detail though. I'm not sorry ;)
After our first chat we delved a little deeper into Cat's past and whilst swapping teas talked about the benefits of past negative experiences. Always a pleasure talking to Cat and learning a little more about her past and the tools she uses to look after her mental and physical health.
Cat joined me for two interviews because we had so much to talk about! In this first part I got to know a little about Cat's background and what she does to maintain good mental health.
Mr. David Newson returns to talk a little deeper about his troubled past with salamanders, what he learnt from whores and how little I edit.
Miss Hana Olsen is the first female guest to impart her wisdom. It was great to hear about her past and the habits she uses to maintain good mental health. She's passionate about poetry, writing and has a penchant for roller blading and climbing. Enjoy!
This week I spoke with Ewen about his formative years, how he got into acting and his new show Who is Mordechai Waterview? There are some insightful points in our chat, the first time we had met! I'm looking forward to the next catchup and finding out more about this talented gent.
Michael and i had a great chat in my favourite cafe Sorelle in Waverley. We had just completed Coogee Stairs (a local challenging stair climb) and enjoyed a good solid breakfast before diving in. We spoke about Michael's past, what motivates him and how his mind works. More to come from this great man as he continues to work on his mental health.
It's me again! I like to think I am learning with each new podcast I produce. In the spirit of learning this week I am sharing my newfound knowledge with you. It's not rocket science, but it is amazing how simple things that help our minds are so easily overlooked when we take life too seriously.
Going back to the solo experience this week as I haven't been able to get time to interview. I thought I'd recant some of my past and give some insight into my depression. Nothing too heavy though!
In this episode I get to talk to my friend Dane, 50% of partner acrobatic duo DuoDie. We talk about bouncing balls off his chest and other interesting tools for the mind.
Twenty minutes of me talking. I know it's hard work. Today I am talking about my history with depression. Excuse the brief moments of silence halfway through, I was trying not to cry!
Time to think isn't always good for my brain! But a lesson learnt is a lesson shared. Keep your time planned and get sh*t done!
Enjoy this gold old rant with Mr Andrew Arnott. This is part one of our discussion about mental health and has spurned a few changes for the coming podcast formats and name. Enjoy!
Kurt is an actor, singer, dancer, teacher and a sommelier. When he's not doing all of these things he enjoys using the gym to balance mind and body. One of the simplest tools he uses for mental health is to sing like nobody is listening. This is just part of the puzzle to a balanced mind that Kurt shares with us today.
Uli is a mate from my local coffee shop X74. Unfortunately the audio cocked up halfway through and towards the end, so I lost a fair chunk. But the first part is intact and I'll get him back for round two in the near future as he has some amazing insights to share.
The finale. We talk about cheese and lycra amongst other things. I had a great time talking with Justin and even more listening back to these episodes. I hope you enjoy them too and take something away from them.
I think these first two parts are a great warmup to what comes at the finale. But take your time, don't rush. Take in what Justin has to say because there's a wisdom beyond his 29 years.
What can I say about Justin other than he is a surprise package. I learnt so many pearls of wisdom from him in our interview and decided to publish a three parter because of his insight and humour. We can all learn a lot from this legend.
There are many tools we can use to help ourselves, but do we overcomplicate things? Fred tells me about some of the simple things he employs that could help you to live a happier life.
*Note: They may be some swearing. Probably mild though. No C word. Mr David Newson talks to me about his passions and what keeps him sane day to day.
Chatting with Mr O'Brien. There is some sense in the madness. Somewhere... *Note: They may be some swearing. Probably mild though. No C word.
Continuing my conversation with Mr Hanney. What a man! *Note: There may be some swearing. Probably mild though. No C word.
The first podcast interviewing my friend Michael Hanney. We discover his passions and the tools he uses to stay sane. *Note: They may be some swearing. Probably mild though. No C word.
